I began my martial arts studies early and hard after the TV series Kung Fu pilot. My plan was to be like Kwai Cheng Kaine. Naturally, this shows my years, as I just turned 61-years old last month. However, I am happy to report that I have become the very person that I aspired to be.
Starting with Kenpo karate in 3rd grade, I advanced into Wing Chun kung fu and Jeet kune Do by 5th grade. By 7th grade (1976) I started teaching my friends.
However, the adaptation of Aikido with Wing Chun/Jeet Kune Do in 1989 made perfect sense.
Christian Tissier's art has raised my knowledge of the simple physics of self-defense. Mind you, Jeet Kune Do comes with a lot of auxiliary training including Western boxing. But in the end, as Warriors for Peace, we must strive to do the least damage in all defensive "predicaments".
I teach my students "You will know you have 'arrived' when you lose on purpose". For in the end, it is all about humility.
