For me it was taking so many remedial classes in college before being able to actually persue a degree and also the extremely limited liberal mindset. Also seeing so many classmates drop out
Feline Frequency I attended 2nd 3rd and 4th grade, but the teachers never once taught me a single thing, I was never given an assignment, or expected to meet any standard. I just showed up for three years and taught myself. I was tested, my IQ was 146 when I entered the school, so it wasn’t like I was dumb. I never learned math, english or history. It is a garbage school.
I was kicked out of this school at age 10, because I wasn’t “thriving”. Basically, I was never, not once, expected to do any work at any time. Teachers never held me accountable. I attended from 87-89 2nd through 5th grade, and I was not taught a single thing the entire time I was there. I never learned math, writing and english skills, history etc. I learned absolutely nothing. That isn’t to say I didn’t teach my self things while I was there, because it was so boring, I would sneak out of class and go to the library to actually read books, and learn how to program the computers, I taught my self. I was tested with an IQ of 146 when I entered the school. Can you even imagine? I was ignored for 3 years, and when my grades didn’t look good, they failed me and made me repeat the 4th grade. So in the middle of the next year they kicked me out for failure to “thrive”, but my test scores allowed me to go to a new school attending 5th grade. So basically I taught myself enough to be in 5th grade in a regular school, but they held me back in 4th????? I was just fine in the new school because they actually gave me an education. This school is just a leftist education camp, where they teach you environmentalism and how to protest. Damn this place still makes me angry.
Maybe check out the school now and not judge it based on your experience from over 30 years ago, which wasn't called JCOS back then. I attended this school from 85-90, and I did learn all those things and then some. Also we didn't have grades, so I question your comment in the first place.
@@Symharmony If you attended prior to 89 what was the school called before that? Do you know? the teachers were trash in my class, I literally taught myself everything. I would sneak to the library to learn, because I was so bored from being ignored 5 days a week. Seriously, when I got into a better school I had to play catchup for all of 2nd -5th grade, I got made fun of because my math was non existent, but i busted my ass and got back to speed, because I had to prove to myself it wasn’t my fault. I have read many reviews that confirm my own stories, the place is a glorified baby sitter, not academic at all. It puts out a bunch of pansy halfwits that barely make it through college I have heard. Just a giant safe space that pushes feelings first, academic second.
@@hammercustomdrums6048 I do remember the name, do you? If you attended from 87-89, you would know the elementary, middle school, and high school combined into one building the summer before the 1989-1990 school year. Prior to that, the elementary and the middle school were in their own building elsewhere with a different name, and the high school was up in the mountains. I'm confused on your years, because above you said 87-89, but in your original reply to me before you edited you said you were there from 88-91. So which is it? In my first response, I mentioned that JCOS doesn't give grades, but you said you got kicked out for your poor grades. If you actually attended JCOS, you would know that throughout its existence of over 50 years they have never given a letter grade. As a graduate from JCOS, I went on to receive my BA and my MA without any problems. I know plenty of alumni that have also gone on to be very successful academically and in their careers. No pansy, halfwits as you seem to think of the people that have attended JCOS. You seem very bitter to me, and you have this need to troll a school you don't know much about.
@@Symharmony yeah, what was the elementary school name, because that is specifically what im talking about. I didnt say they have grades, i started in 2nd grade at Tanglewood, which merged, O still have my 3rd grade year book, and they held me back in in 4th grade because I wasn’t performing well, but the truth was they never gave me any assignments, not required me to follow any curriculum whatsoever, no books were provided, I was allowed to wander the EIA unrestricted and was never asked to complete a task. Well there was one time Mike gave me 3 math problems in my journal book, but it was addition and I was in 4th grade at the time. The counselor did some IQ testing, found out I was smart, and recommended I go to a regular school, and since I was only held back for the first month of the fall semester, when I changed schools I bumped back up to 5th grade in the new school. So I failed 4th grade at JCOS, but was Immediately placed in 5th in my new school where I did just fine. I literally taught myself how to read those years, and when they teated my reading comprehension before I left they said I had a college reading aptitude. I did learn computer programming, also by myself. But they didnt push math science history grammar etc So being that I was bumped back to 5th grade in the new school, what the hell happened? What do remember was daily doing art projects, arts and crafts, beekeeping (with a real beehive), playing with building blocks, video games, and wondering off and out of class to entertainment myself. The teachers didn’t keep track of me, and rarely did they care, eventually someone would find me in the library and drag me back to class. The school completely failed me from day one. I had to teach myself, that is all there is to it.
@@hammercustomdrums6048 You mentioned grades in this sentence from your original reply: "I was ignored for 3 years, and when my grades didn’t look good, they failed me and made me repeat the 4th grade". If you were struggling so much, why didn't your parents intervene? It seems like you were failed by a lot of people not just the school. You seem very caught up on baseless claims and derogatory comments.
Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.
I LOVE MY SCHOOL JCOS FOR THE WIN!!
I sometimes wonder whether there are enough bitter ex-Open Schoolers to make a documentary about it.
Feline Frequency I've scrolled past your comment about five times just wondering what that might mean?

More fun once you get into middle school
Very Cool
