I might have to put Cliffhanger in my Top 100, right now it’s around #110. So many memorable kills and I grew up watching this with my Dad, lots of fun memories. Just another one of so many Stallone classics!
I saw Cliffhanger at the cinemas in 1994. A friend of mine bought the Laserdisc because he had a projector with his Home Theatre System and Laserdisc player in Australia. However, the friend had a small collection of Laserdiscs just when the DVD format was released in the mid-1990s.
Man I remember when I was a kid I got a VCR & TV in my room along with Cliffhanger, Dente's Peak, & Breakdown on VHS so I watched those over and over!! Love Cliffhanger! Glad your really enjoyed it!!

Cliffhanger is one of the biggest money makers of 1993 and include in top 10 highest movie of that year. I remember watch in theater is Cliffhanger on the first week, Jurrasic Park on the second week and Last Action Hero on the third week. All of them is a full jam packed theaters experience. Summer 93 is a great experience in cinemas.
This movie was shot in New Zealand and all were outdoor locations and real stunts with professionals. Stallone also did a whole rock climbing course specifically for this movie.
Love it. Saw this in theatre way bsck when, that opening hooked me straight away. Lithgow as a villain was cool because he was believable. Not a muscle man but a vicious psycho. Reminded me if Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddikker
Oh man I have always loved Cliffhanger. It's just an easy watch. I can't begin to guess how many times I've seen it. There's a general "crispness" to the way it's shot, even in night scenes, that I've always really liked
Cliffhanger And Demolition man were 2 of my favourite 90s movies. I just hated the bit where John ligthgow says to Gabe when they are fighting "stick around" it didn't fit the scene.
This movie is always awesome to watch. Saw it in theaters as a sophomore in high school. I owned the VHS and dvd. I just picked up the 4k earlier this year. Quick story, during high school I had to take a make-up english course. My english teacher was huge fan of movies and had many movie posters on the classroom walls. I asked about how he acquired the Cliffhanger poster which was six feet in width 2 feet high(not your usual dimensions since this was probably for a video store) . He asked if I would like one (YES!) and the next day he gave one to me.
I remember this movie when I was a teenager I loved Lithgow when I was a kid. He always played a great bad guy. I'd definitely say Lithgow was the real star of Cliffhanger.
I remember watching in the cinema. The whole audience gasped at the finale of the opening scene. John Lithgow is brilliant as the bad guy, a far cry from his role in Daddy's home 2 🤣
Sony these days is kicking more ass than anyone since Alexander and his 40,000 Maedonians polished off the Persian Empire in a single afternoon. Sony even produces Tarantino now, and he says they're a dream come true.
Great review, Ken! Yes this is definitely one of my favorite Stallone movies of all time. Great action sequences. Excellent villain! And an opening that really gets you from the start. And yes I believe that scene when Stallone is stuck under the ice is when it turns into a set because he would need a controlled environment to pull off a stunt like that.

YES ! Finally in ''SUPER HIGH DEFINITION''. This was an awesome film. I never saw this in the theatre but previously bought it on laserdisc.

That’s not correct. The movie was shot in Italy (Dolomites).
Cliffhanger is one of the best 4k transfers I own. The picture is beautiful!!!

Cliffhanger is a pure action movie from 1993 that I saw in theaters 3 times and I think it is one of his best films behind rocky and Rambo franchise

Your are correct Ken. Some scenes are on a set. The underwater stallone scene, Cave scene and a couple of the mountain climbing scenes are on a set.
The underwater one is the part I was referring to. But it's understandable that they wanted a temperature controlled environment for that.
