    My DC14 has this problem. I'm looking for a new motor (as well as a new belt, and a new post motor filter since the current one is black with carbon dust). I can see a 911934-01 YDK motor that claims to be compatible with DC14 for £18.45. Does that seem like what you would expect? The ones that claim to be genuine Dyson motors are £48-60 and have a better-looking housing for the wires. Do the non-Dyson motors run as well?

      Gia Darwin I don't even pay that much! Look for a seller called LM Electrical on ebay, they are Qualtex, who make the pattern spares. £13 odd quid. I've never had any bother with them or pattern filters and I've used them for years!

      Thanks so much. £13.75. Perfect.

    So the brrrrrr sound is arcing? When the brushes Ark do they literally look like arcs? Or do they just look like tiny flashes? I’m visually impaired and was curious to know

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a bit of both tbh. From what you can see through the motor housing vents is sparks and flashes, but the sparks will be licking around the comm as it shorts out briefly passing the duff segment

    Great vid!! I brought a dc25 full brush roll assembly from eBay second hand that is work but it still doesn't work when it is attacheted to the dyson its self. Have you got any idea of what it could be? Also I done my first dyson dc24 stripdown the other day thanks to your Manchester vacs form!!

      numaticrule29 Excellent, glad it was of some use! Check the brushroll loom isn't snapped (remove the cover on the side of the ball with the 3 screws), if that's fine then maybe the reset switch up by the power button but I've not known one of those fail tbh

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or, being second hand the motor has gone. Was it advertised as working? You'll have to prod stuff with a multimeter to be sure I'm afraid

    Hello Friend!
    I have a Dyson (dc25) that was my uncle's. He died last October.
    He was a chain smoker, and Omgoodness. The on/off switches are stuck in place.
    So, in order to use...plug & unplug.
    I really like this vacuum. With the help & guidance of one of your phone tech's I learned to clean all the filters.
    The motor does make the same sound when you turn it off as those do. So, I guess I need a new motor.
    Last week while vacuuming something popped, or unlocked while pivoting.
    I don't know what the name of this clip is...to troubleshoot it.
    On the (outside)top center of the brush bar is a square clip.
    It is attached to the arm that pivots.
    Can you tell me what it is.
    It won't re lock into place. It doesn't look broken...."HELP"!!!

      (I don't have a phone tech...!) Sounds like the brushroll retaining clip, should just pop back on

    I have a dc 25 that I can't get the brush bar to spin. It started out by just working sporadically when machine was turned on. Sometimes it would run and sometimes it wouldn't. It has now quit coming on at all when machine is powered up and in carpet cleaning position. I have noticed however that when I push the on/off switch down to power the machine off the brush bar will spin for a split second. Not every time I turn the machine off but on occasion. I have a complete new powerhead that does the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Sorry I'm a bit late but that sounds like an issue with the switch itself. Sam 's done a switch replacement so just follow that and it should be fine.

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      james dunn That's the post motor filter seal not sealing as well as it could. Caused by either a warped motor housing, filthy seal or both. Quick hack is to put a thin film of Vaseline around the rubber seal.

    • @huskyvacs
      @huskyvacs 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No! Never ever use Vaseline on rubber! The chemicals in Vaseline will destroy the rubber.

      @@huskyvacs You'll need to replace the filter way before that happens!

    I own a Dyson DC25 that makes that same whistle when you turn it off? How do you find out what is causing that?

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the motor housing warped, the noise is the air rushing past the post motor seal as the housing moves when the motor suction dies down. Smear of vaseline, remove the filter seal or fit a brand new motor housing are the 3 options!

    • @brianmott728
      @brianmott728 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you the same person I messaged with a different question about that whistling sound who told me to remove the filter next to the motor? Where do you put the petroleum jelly?

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianmott728 Yes, you've asked the same question on multiple videos! Smear the jelly over the rubber seal. It might rot the seal away in 10 years, but you'll breed to replace the filter before then anyway!
