    That's a great lot of work, and it looks great. Personally, I don't like face frames - they reduce usable space. But if you don't have face frames, you should space your drawer fronts much more closely... like 1/8" all around. I'm guessing you put the 1/2" gap to save a bit of plywood? I think you'll get dust in your drawers! I don't think that's ever a good thing...

    I'd tentatively suggest either a large slide out drawer in that big space, with a front that looks as if it had 4 drawers in it, or a 'door' that's hinged at the bottom for a type of waste bin thingy! :-)
    That was a pretty impressive build though! Well Dunn! :-)

    So I notice you have both a radial arm saw, and a sliding miter saw. I have two questions, first why did you use the sliding miter for all those 90deg. cuts, instead of the radial arm saw? Second question, I have neither tool right now and I’m considering a super cool old dewalt radial arm saw, or a non slider, and possibly a slider. My space is limited I can only have one. What’s your advise/opinion. It’s hard to get an honest opinion about this because most people are in one of two camps, anti radial arm saw, and the you don’t even need a table saw or most other cutting machines the radial arm saw can do it all. So what saw you. Thanks in advance for your advice/opinion.

      Most quality video editing softwares have a feature where you can isolate a specific sound and then it will show you every clip with that sound of everything you've imported into it which is how it is easily able to make those rapid cut sections where he's just a cutting a dado into a sheet of plywood.
      The only really challenging part would be the overlaying multiple clips of himself into the same frame but he makes that a lot easier on himself by not touching the camera at all, and like he said another videos he's basically just mimicking a lot of different TH-camrs that he has seen that make what he considers compelling videos so we'll say this is like six different TH-camrs styles all rolled up into one and I think it's beautiful

    Thanks for the mention. At first I thought your video technique was Jay Bates-esque, but then you threw in the rapid cut sequences which are very clever! I think they would be even better if you rendered those sequences, then re-inserted them into the video at double speed. Some of them get a little long (especially the early miter saw sequence). If you set the TH-cam playback to 2X they are much better, especially the sequences where you can see the pieces piling up. Just some friendly advice from another TH-camr :)

    • @matthewgaylen2827
      @matthewgaylen2827 3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      disagree... I think the real time cuts are amazing. There's a thousand youtube videos with crappy post production audio that tries to keep up with 2x video. In this case, I think the 2x video is unnecessary. Plus, it points out that true woodworkers, makers, creators have to deal with repetition. You have to do the same thing a lot of time to make 28 drawer... and you have to have your mind wrapped around it the whole time or you end up with fewer fingers than drawers.
      On the other hand, I'm a real fan of the @StumpyNubs too...

    • @essenceofaaron

    • @frasergreig
      @frasergreig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Also disagree. This shows the rarely documented repetitive nature of woodworking. I get really bogged down in the hours of processing when I do a project. Lots of you tubers skip over that and give a false perception of ease. Not with Under Dunn. He makes it entertaining and honest. I appreciate that.

    • @StumpyNubs
      @StumpyNubs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@matthewgaylen2827 - I get it. And I am not criticizing his video or his style, which I quite enjoyed. I am just offering some advice purely from a business perspective. You will always have a loyal segment of your audience that likes everything you do. But pleasing them and growing a channel are often two different things... In this case, documenting the repetitive nature of woodworking sounds like a good idea, but in practice the repetitive nature of woodworking is one of the least enjoyable aspects of the craft for a great many people .... As I said, I just offered some business advice, not criticism of his process. I found his video unique and fun and Mr. Dunn seems to have a great vision for what he wants to do. He need not take any advice from me or anyone else. Either way, I subscribed :)

    • @UnderDunnOfficial
      @UnderDunnOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      I appreciate the constructive criticism. I often like the challenge of turning something inherently boring into something entertaining to watch. The initial miter cuts shot did go on a bit long. I shortened up subsequent scenes dramatically because of that.
      As far as business advice goes, I usually struggle with it. It's not as straightforward as making the video so I tend to focus on whatever makes me creatively happy. Almost half of my income is from Patreon, so catering to my core audience works well for me. Also, this is my no pressure second channel. Aging Wheels is my main channel. If growing a business was my primary interest, it would be a terrible idea to split my one man show focus into two wildly different channels. I go from the approach of monetized hobbies more than growing a business. That said, I'm a big Stumpy supporter and viewer, and feel almost proud of all the success you've found. You employ several people and regularly educate thousands of woodworkers. You have a great thing going!

    1:30 im watching this chopsaw montage and realizing how little dust is building up piece after piece.... i dont know what you did for dust collection, but it appears to be incredible! Chopsaw dust collection is one of those things i think most people just give up on. I think i saw you have a video on what you did. Im gonna go check it out.

    Cabinets look great, and the edits remain first-class. One of these days I'm half-expecting the tone changes on the time lapses to start playing the keyboard riff from "Take On Me" by a-ha or something. :)
    In particular, something about watching you make the drawer pulls was very satisfying. My grandfather used to make furniture in a similar style. You can spot one of his pieces instantly in any extended family member's home, including my own, by the drawer pulls and door handles.
    So, uh... what was with all the water on the floor? I'm just curious.

    The metal drawer slides are cheaper if you account for your time. However you wouldn't have received the experience in building your own. I think you did a fantastic job overall.

    holy ship that ad was dark and out-of-nowhere lmao, well done, well done. You really had me laughing the whole video this time. Having done monotonous work of various sorts, I felt some of these moments so, so deeply. Then I imagined the amount of tedious editing you had to do after the tedious work of making this and it's just.. wow. Truly, this is art from start to finish.

    Subbed. Great video man. I have seen your videos before, but didnt realise that I wasn't subbed yet. And then you have both Stumpy and John Heisz comment on your video as well. Noicee! Great work and superb editing.

    Excellent work, love the result. I personally prefer face frameless cabinets like you just made, due to more efficient use of space. Also big compliments on your humor and creative editing, super fun to watch. If I may one brief safety concern. I never trust a router bit, one day they will creep out of the chuck as your router and chuck ages. At best it will ruin your work piece, at worse...i dont even want to think about it. Maybe I misdunderstood how you were cutting those grooves, someone set me straight, I won't be offended.

    Your drawer project turned out swimmingly!
    There is a lot of set up work that goes into the slides. Speaking of swim, tell us about the shop river.
    Also the rapid edit cuts were strangely mesmerizing.

    Your cabinets and drawers both are very nice. I too, am planning a project with John Heisz' home made full extension drawer slides. If you hadn't said so, I would have thought you made near perfect drawers. That's one thing I truly enjoy about your videos. The fact that you own your mistakes. It gives the viewer (me) a chance to learn from someones mistakes besides myself. You are a little different from most videographers on youtube, but keep up the good work.
