So glad my mom accepted me before she died. This is one of my favorite reading of Tyler. No child should resort in committing suicide just for being born gay.
This brought me to tears. As a gay man I understand the inner struggle that eats you up inside. 😢 when you feel unwanted, unseen it just breaks your soul. Unfortunately some take matters into their own hands when there is no other way out. I hope now a days things are better for the younger generation. I did not go through so much trauma because early on I never let anyone put me down or let anyone make me feel ashamed 😔. But some of us can't cope.
@@PeachesCourage My exact feelings. It is such an important conversation to have. To have so much fear and shame, stay closeted bc of your family dynamics, and ultimately commit suicide is so very sad. Brought out my tears. Peace, Love and Blessings everyone! ☮️💟🙏💗
so glad you are strong enough to not let anyone put you down for being yourself. i have no idea what you or anyone goes through, i can only imagine. i am very empathetic with others feelings. i have a granddaughter who told me she liked girls when she was only 8. i wasn’t sure how she knew she was homosexual when she wasn’t sexual yet, but i didn’t say anything negative. she asked if Jesus wouldn’t love her 😢😢 well i’ll be da***ed if i would ever have anyone think that!! he came to forgive us, not shame us. i hope you have this kind of support ❤❤
As the mother of an adult gay man I want to tell you how much this one meant to me. My son didn't tell me until he was in college and I honestly had never picked up on it. I was mad because I thought he would have felt comfortable enough to come out way before then. I have been an ally in the queer community for years and my children knew my views. I felt like I could have been a support system for it through middle and high school had I known. In the end I'm so glad he worked the courage up to tell me. He now has a huge extended family that love and support him...even some that are super religious. I will never understand how someone can be so cruel as to shame someone for who they love.
Fear. He was afraid of your reaction and what you might say or do. I grew uo in a family where seeing two gay men kiss on TV would lead to an awkward silence. Yet my Mom had openly gay friends. She chose a lesbian to be my Godmother. Yet I was still afraid to come out. It turns out my intuition was right. As I sat there at 23 years old coming out to my parents and older sister my Mom told me what a disappointment I was and that there really was no point in her having a son in the first place. I sat there with tears streaming down my cheeks as my sister put her arms around me and shouted at my Mom “how can you say those things to him?” I drove home to my place in the city with my bf. I did not hear from my Mom again until two weeks later. She made no mention of the event or the cruel things she said to me. But she had called…and sad as it is.. I was just happy to hear from my Mom. So yes, sometimes people are way off in predicting how their parent will react. Sometimes it isn’t enough that we see our Mon and Dad are open to having gay friends or if we know that they support marriage equality for example… when it comes to their own family they may feel differently about it
So very sad! My favorite Uncle was gay and it couldn't have been easy for him in Birmingham AL in the 1940s and 1950s. I loved him so much and miss him still.
Thank you for telling his journey in honesty and purity that he never got to do in his life. Now many of us are thinking of him and loving him right now. Love is love.
Prayers for anyone in the closet and has that feeling of guilt for being who u are. You deserve happiness and love, take your time but know you are loved by many and u are not alone. 🤍
I am that Uncle, born in the 60s, went through conversion therapy and don’t ask don’t tell military service, old school family. Great to here y’all’s support for this story. Nice to see the world I lived in is changing. Maybe I will have that conversation with my family. Thanks for airing this one.
I had a gay "uncle" (Dads best friend for 45 years) who I miss dearly. He was gay in the late 60's-2018, and his mother took him to the doctor when she found out and asked if there was medication to "fix" him. The doctor recommended sending him to conversion camps and thankfully she declined. RIP Pat, I love you and miss you ❤
My friend in high school hung himself in his parents front yard because they wouldn’t accept his being gay. Another friend who was my best friend was told by his parents as he was dying of AIDS “we have never adopted you had we known this was how you’d turn out” other friends were tossed into the streets as young teens by their families. There’s countless stories like this and it’s a tragedy that people are so hateful and ignorant.
I don’t know who this young woman is, but God Bless her for her courage to find the truth and tell the truth. She will heal SO MANY LIVES. Those who get angry are simply from my generation and the 50’s & 60’s …. Well it was a different time.
WOW You have GOT to see Bridesmaids, one of the funniest movies ever, and Wendi was SO GREAT in it! You will laugh until you cry, that is how good it is!!
This is such a sad story that people go on hating themselves and families don't support them just because we are gay. It's not a choice it a natural thing. Thank You Tyler and I LOVE Wendi so much!!
This one is my favorite of all, my father came out in the early 70"s to his family who were very strong Catholics, he took his life when I was only 5 yrs old. So I don't remember much, but when I was old enough to have a voice of my own, I told that same family members that I didn't care who he was and what his life style was, and that I rather have him here with us then being dead. And they all agreed because they realized they were wrong and they blamed themselves for his death
So many people simply just took their own lives, because they're felt like they weren't good enough to live and brought "shame" to their Families back in the days, whether it's 1940, 1960s or 2024....OMG 😢🙌
You should tell everyone what really happened because his soul deserves being remembered for being a part of life. Whether he was gay is not the point. But I hope we’ve grown to accept people for who they are and not what you think they are and judging them inappropriately. I feel you are born that way because why would you choose a life of secrecy and shame? And I pray we learn to accept everyone for who they are with no judgment. It will be a much better life if we didn’t judge people for anything.
She didn't mention her role as Liz on Rules of Engagement - One of the funniest characters I've ever seen. Glad she had this opportunity and experience.
I wish so many people would see this and see it dosen’t matter who you love, and mind the their own business. Because we all have one thing in common, we all just want to be loved ❤
I married a man who was gay when he came out my family and friends expected me to leave him he was in a bad place at that time , we stayed close helped each other until he passed in 1995 aids.
@10:35, YES!!! Talk about things no matter how hard they are us so very important! My family is no longer a family bc they I guess just don't wanna hear it, or they don't wanna talk about things bc it's not the easy thing to do...😢 it is truly Heartbreaking 💔...and myself and my kids are the opposite, we are the one's that will just be like, that's nice, BUT... and we've been shut out basically.
The situation defines the time period in which a gay person lived. As she mentioned, people just didn’t “come out” during that time and many respected their families reputations and didn’t want them to endure any ridicule because of who they were. It was a sad and tumultuous time to live then.
People say everyone is so pc about not offending gays or trans look at why people should be respectful of differences it's just a passing joke to straight people but to someone like her uncle it is torture be nice to everyone I'm lucky my parents always knew I was gay but always empowered all 5 of their children no matter what we were
God Bless this man for having to suffer so much and thank god he is now in a state of absolute understanding, love and acceptance. He was perfect just the way he was and now he truly knows it.
It is just heartbreaking that a person feels like they have to take their lives because of who they are; it happens far too often. I can only speak for myself, but Thank You Wendi for sharing this story. ♥
As it's been said, "Be Your Authentic Self". It's more damaging to NOT be who you are, than keeping it inside. YOU are the only one who can make YOURSELF happy...no one else can.
Wendi your such a beautiful woman and amazing actress and talented beyond!im so sorry for what you’ve had to go through in your life,I hope you find peace!much ❤❤❤❤ to you you amazing beautiful woman ❤
Tyler is a bit uneasy with this reading coz being gay is still not wholly accepted even in highly liberated countries. Its still a taboo... Even with all the LGBTQA+ movement and Pride month. Its good that she open this up to the world, so that his uncle will never be forgotten. He is proud of you for doing this inspite your family not liking it..
Dang it! This one made me feel like she lead him to ask if her uncle was gay. She was pushing for more and wanting to hear that he was gay, so Tyler asked her if he could be. It didn't come from her uncle. It makes me wisdom if that is the message he wanted to give her, or just what she wanted to hear. It is sad though that some people just don't have the love and support that they need to be their true authentic self.
I thought about that, but from what I have learned about spirits in communicating, it's not the same as when we are here -they don't use labels like we do, it's more about what lies beneath the label - like emotion
Your mom’s (my) generation didn’t handle suicide, sexual identity and religious beliefs very well. If they’ve been silent about your uncle’s suicide and him being gay is because they knew about it. You may just get a yes or a nod. Don’t expect a long discussion about it. It’s possible (by now) they realize gay is not a choice and accept it but they have to feel the pain all over again. Shame and guilt are the symptoms of depression and anxiety, or self judgment which allows us to believe/accept what others say about us. Good luck.
I grew up "old school" if you want to call it that and I have two teenage sons, I know for a fact they are both straight but I'm so open and honest with my boys, the youngest asked me one day a while ago, mom what would you do if I told you I was gay? My reply was, baby as long as he's not better looking than your dad and he has money it's all good, lol, I know my reply was joking around, but after that I said to him, you know what you are you and you are my child and I will love you no matter what. I hope that man rests in peace now, and I hope others who feel that way sees this and are not afraid to let the world know who they really are. Bless his soul
He was committed suicide because he didn’t feel accepted by his family. I hate that she went around that fact by saying “he killed himself bc he was gay & didn’t fit in.” … at 7:23
Tyler, I used to watch you a few years ago and I went to see you at a casino in Palm Springs, but your performance there was not good at all. I felt it was too overwhelming for you to have that many people in front of you at once and it manifested as a very poor performance at that casino. What I see in watching you today is that you have honed your ability significantly and are able to convey your messages more clearly with much less ambiguity and you are able to do it quicker with much better continuity for the person you are reading and for the tv audience. It is like you have moved up to a higher level of understanding of your ability. Congratulations on that move up!
The stigma of being a gay man or women back in the 60s and 70s was frightening and never spoke about. God bless the poor man who never got to be himself and could only see one way out😕
Poor man, forgotten in life and in death. ❤ we remember him and his life mattered.
Beautifully said. 💙
On the other side we are all loved, so that's comforting :)
