      thanks for sharing ur experience dude, from someone who is also joining at a later stage in their life ur stories def relate a lot more to me than most of the caf videos showcasing young 20s year olds.

      @@dt3306 I'm glad to hear that. It is definitely possible. I'm always down to help if you have other questions (As long as it's something I'm allowed to share, of course)

      @@CanuckSoldier3 i have one general question about bmq (although i will b doing bmq at st jeans rather than shilo) since i will b joining at 35 as well, will this influence any of the instructors decisions? such as “oh ur older so u should b course senior” and volunteer u to b so more often...or will you get held to a higher standard while doing leading duties etc?. i haven’t ever done any cadets or anything military and and wasn’t the best student when i was younger in high school or even my time spent in uni but never finished (B- student at best).

      @@dt3306 it doesn't necessarily make an impact on how the staff treat you. Not in the beginning anyway, after a few weeks they might start to lay off a bit understanding you may not need to be broken as much as others but...everyone starts at the same stage.

    I did my Basic in Cornwallis way back in 1994. They gave me a 15 pound pet rock that I had to carry for a week, no doubt because I said something smartass. Great days, great memories!

      Haha! I just interviewed a MWO who did his basic in 1994 as well: th-cam.com/video/aGFmkvBQTZY/w-d-xo.html

      Ha ha pet rocks are still a thing. We also had to dress up the dead weight dummy in Combats and name him ha ha.

    really great interview! I am booked for my interview next week and am a 29 year old planning on joining as a infanteer . This was very informative, and way more current point of view than the shows out there haha.

    I started watching you like a year ago when I was studying for my CFAT. Your videos helped out a lot to prepare. Thank you. Very entertaining interview ! Are you still in the forces ?

      So happy to hear this!!! Thanks for the kind words about the interview as well. I’m not in the CAF anymore, I released in July 2021 because I had the opportunity to move to Singapore for 6 months through my university!

    Oof not u adding the “basic”… even staff dont add the “basic”… we dont even address each other by rank at reg. Pte’s are just addressed by their last name. It’s kind of just an unsaid rule… its more accepted

    • @KyraNankivell
      @KyraNankivell  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tbh I just wrote his rank how he sent it to me🤷🏽‍♀️ We’re pretty close so I’m sure he would’ve / would tell me if it bothered him. I’ll ask him rn! In any case, it adds some context to new recruits showing he was in/around basic training. I appreciate the context you provided!!
