I was aware of this but stupidly only thought of MY parents, not taking into account that this also could've happened with their parents and their parents and... Given that farther back in our pedigree our ancestors lived in much tighter/smaller communities where everybody knew everybody there HAD to be overlap. 🤦🏼♀️
Love the vlogs Andy. Can I request a vlog on how to use the Q matching tool effectively, particularly on how if can be used to filter out likely false matches/match segments. Q matching seems to be a great tool but rarely gets a mention.
So I’m in a gedmatch group on Facebook and I have my kit and my moms kit with this group, I’ve run both kits on gedmatch and what I don’t understand is why I don’t match all my moms matches? I understand her not matching all of mine because some are on my dads side, but why don’t I match all of her matches on the default threshold? It’s only when I lower those thresholds that I match her matches, so confusing
I received an email stating my kit could not be compared due to me "opted for a research plan." How can I go back into GEDmatch and adjust my settings for comparison? Thank you...
Thank you for this video. I have a question about centiMorgans vs SNPs. Which one is most important in regards to determining the validity of a match? Or, are they equally important? I was told when I first got started on the search for my biological father that the segments needed to be at least 7 cM and at least 700 SNPs. This was before GEDMatch went to this 200-400 SNP thing. Some say the cMs need to be even higher. Yesterday, I found a segment with a match that was less than 7 cM (5 or 6cM, I can't remember which), but it had over a 1000 SNPs. Do I discount it based on the low centiMorgans even though it more than qualifies in regards to SNPs? Thanks again. Have a blessed day.

It says on the One to One Matching ( Video) which is on the Gedmatch ComparisionTool, you must verify your matches. How do you do this.

so, in the first example at about 3:50 there seems to be a large half match segment but it's not marked as a match and I'm wondering why that is?
Probably if you looked at the numbers, it either isn't long enough (
So you more likely get dual side matches from parents and siblings but what about cousins?
Unless they are a double cousin, cousins will only match you on either your paternal or maternal side.
