    This is great footage. Thanks for sharing. In honour of the 70th anniversary of the battle I’ve just started reading Bernard Fall’s ‘Hell in a Very Small Place’, and I hadn’t realised that even the taking of the valley was hotly contested. The Viet-Minh had more than a battalion of troops in the area supported by a heavy weapons company. There was some heavy fighting, and Major Bigeard had to call in a few air strikes. But so much confusion was caused by the French para drop that the Viets didn’t know where to concentrate their attacks and they were forced to flee the valley. 🇫🇷👍🏻

    The French high command were hugely optimistic in their plans at Dienbienphu. At Na San thet were better deployed, and held the high ground that overlooked the airstrip .

      The french armies were brave. Too bad it was their government’s fault not the soldiers. The war could have been avoided if they managed to pull out earlier.
