Journaling can be anything! As long as you think it's a journal, It's a journal. Personally, I've done writing, scrapbook and different types of journaling
I feel like we journal for similar reasons - writing is so calming and relaxing, I love the action of just physically writing stuff down, it's so therapeutic. I also find it so helpful just writing down all my thoughts and emotions about the book, as usually I don't know anyone else who's read it and so can't talk to them about it, and yeah it does help give closure!!
bare minimum reading journal, this is exactly the kind of reading journal that i need. the more i make it pretty, the more i’ll get lazy to write on it
here's a low effort, easy to remember, less da Vinci and more thriftstore vibes, almost useful format for book journalling: -date and day (so that when you flip through later the nostalgia hits or whatever) -name of the book + author (the essentials, you shouldn't be writing without this) -opening line (unnecessary if its nothing worth remembering) -favourite quotes/lines (to be a little pretentious) -favourite character (we know you wanted them to be your friend) -end it with stars on a rate of 1 star to 10 stars and add a comment if you like (something like "this book was fine but the MC reminds me of grandfather" or "haha that guy should have been sent to prison earlier he was worse than a horse lmao") end of story, drink juice, sleep
Girl same, the effort in my reading journal has gone sooo downhill since the start of the year, but honestly I’m just proud that I’ve kept it up at all!
I love this video so much!! As someone who's just getting into journaling, it's so overwhelming when you see other's who are literally like Picasso and yours looks like it's from the dollar store. Thanks for reminding me that my journal is for me.
I totally relate to trying so hard in the beginning just to end up doing the bare minimum at the end. I agree that writing is really calming to do. For my reading journal I decided to keep things simple and just summarize what happened in each chapter. Since I'm a college student sometimes I go a long time not reading a book and would forget simple things such as names etc. I just add washi tape to the top and bottom of the page to make it look somewhat nice 😂 at the end I write down 1 or 2 quotes that I really liked from the book.
I love this and the vibes so much! I was looking at book journal videos and getting so discouraged with all the intense art and time going into them but I absolutely love your set up and the reminder that a book journal is just for me and so it doesn't need to be a super aesthetic thing. 💕💕
Wow, I love that! I never thought about journaling about books. I write about songs, movies, series and other things already but never thought about writing about books. Gotta try that sometime :)
YES! I've gone through video after video hoping to see what people do and it's always the pretty setup and very artistic looking stuff but very little actual journaling! Don't get me wrong, they can be very pretty. I'm amazed at people's creativity and talents. But I want some substance, not just pretty pages!
I do the same but sometimes adding my reflexions in different color. I see other people tracking numbers of pages and genres and I feel that is so pointless lol, I don't want to read more, just to read better ❤️
Love it! I'm looking for inspiration bc I realized I want to do a more personal reading journal, at the moment I have one I bought, and while I like it, I don't really get the most of it. I'm thinking on doing a left page with the book and author details, as well as a little tracker where I write down the date and how much I read each sitting; and then use the right page to write whatever I think while reading the book and then when I finish it, including quotes or just random thought I got during the reading. I don't care about stats bc that is more efficient in spreadsheets or an app, so I love seeing your journaling focused on each book itself.
Love this! And it shows that we don’t need to get super artsy with our journals, unless we absolutely want to. I do something similar, but not with the quotes. I summarise in 3-4 words each section that really stood out to me and write the page number next to it. That way, if I want to go back to that section, I can read that part and also any annotations I have made there. Even if I don’t feel like re-reading a book, I can quickly skim through these points to recollect what I liked about that book.
Just found your channel and this motivated me so much to pick up my journal again. Love how simply but lovely your journal is. Always glad to see other people whose journal is a bit more minimalistic🥰
My book journal is literally a wish list of books I want at the back then a book title it’s star rating next to it then like 2 things I liked or didn’t like about the book that’s it..but it works for me so I’m happy with it!
@@sunnykimreads ah thank you! I tried to go all out at the beginning but it looked AWFUL. it made me wanna cry when I opened the book so ripped those pages out and started fresh💀
My journal is similar. I write a brief synopsis then make a column in the middle. On one side I write what I loved about the book and on the other side I write things I hated/ dislike
@@Bigmango_ that’s a great technique! I recently added a page of problematic authors so if I ever hear someone is reading some of their work I’ll let them know what they’ve done and why they’re a bad person so they don’t invest in more of their work and try either buy it second hand instead or don’t continue to read it :))
I love this so much. All the reading journals out there are beautiful but also so extra and I’m like… yo I’d have to spend all my reading time into journaling time if I’m gonna make it look like that!?
LMAO!!! Sunny, I literally just came across you and could not stop laughing throughout your video; you’re so funny! I’ve subscribed and cannot wait to binge-watch your previous videos and look forward to future ones. Also, good luck with all of your exams, hope you do well!
How do you decide how many pages you might need for a book if your reading multiple books at once? thats my biggest struggle 😭. I honestly like the simplicity of your book journal, keeping things pretty and complex can be hard to keep up! another question: do you journal after reading your books or during readings?
It depends on the amount of pages your journal has and how many books you're reading at once but you could permanently divide 2, 3 or 4 sections of your journal with roughly the same amount of pages in each and use them when you read more than one book. Keeps it roughly organized and you don't have to worry so much about pages. I've been trying this method out these days, but if you know a better one now I'd like to listen
You go to my old uni/live in my hometown haha I was like wow how many schools have the same sweater and then realized its cause I own that exact one LOL
I honestly don't understand why these days journaling has to be so extra. Journaling is journaling, even if you literally just write stuff down without any fancy extras imo. It makes a notebook charming imo. I even often dislike the look of heavily decorated pages and calligraphy titles. It's just so much. While simple is so beautiful and comes down to what a journal is meant to be used as in the end. I tried to do a fancy bullet journal a couple years ago and only managed to do a few pages, I had the exact same reaction as you looking back "who was she? lol" xD I love just journaling to journal, to just write even if it is not perfect. My favorite pages are the most simple ones.
Ooo I gotcha. Here’s some of my underrated favorites. Most of these romances are subplots but are well done Emmy and Oliver (it’s been a while since I read it, but I remember loving their dynamic) The Cemetery Boys The Snow Child (an old married couple rekindling their relationship) The Darkest Part of the Forest
I’m the same exact way, but finally got into book journaling. What really helps me is knowing nobody but me will see my handwriting. Plus, why should I hold myself back from enjoying something? Its okay to mess up . I hope that mindset can help you in someway
Girl everyone’s seen my journal - I literally go in with a pen and fully don’t use white out I just cross stuff out - it adds character I feel like in the future someone’s gonna see my scrawls and romanticize it as an ancient journal or smth
really nice video, I am going to make my first one soon :) and this was a great start. (also, the number of times you said literally in this video tho XD)
I HATE writing (it’s exhausting to me ok😭🤜) so ik im never gonna have a journal eventho i wish im that girl with cute doodle skills and neat handwriting to journal 🗿💨
