Mordialloc is derived from the local area aboriginal language called Boonwurrrung. yallock means water or creek So ' by the sea' would be a reasonable translation.
In case you didn’t realise, it’s illegal here in VIC to even touch your phone whilst driving (you can’t even pick it up and pass it to a passenger). There are many fixed and mobile traffic cameras around the city, suburbs, and even some rural roads to detect drivers holding their phone.
You need to know what the flags mean! Between red and yellow flags is where it is safe to swim. Not that important at the Bay beaches but swim between the flags at anywhere with waves.
Melbourne beaches are pretty ordinary and only surpass Brisbanes since Brisbane kinda doesn't have any...only muddy flats and mangroves...but the beachside suburbs are okay and well built up. But the beaches are better in all other cities in Australia than Melbourne and Brisbane...it doesn't help that both have brown rivers flowing into confined bays or inlets so the water is never clear or particularly fresh. Now out of Melbourne (and Brisbane) the beaches are fantastic.
Good thing about Melbourne is that it gets really hot some days in summer but you don't get the humidity. I'm guessing you work for VW and got hold of a demo for the day.
Just a word of warning. When you are traveling topless, (convertible top down that is), wear a light long sleeve top. And wear the shoulder sash of the seatbelt across your chest. Otherwise the seatbelt is nigh on usless if things go bad. You can take the shirt off at your destination. Also, the driver of the vehicle will avoid a traffic infringement fine if a passing plod notices.
Edd. I'm not being anti Victorian, but ALL Victorian beaches blow. FACT! They're like a trip to Blackpool (bring your bingo markers) LOL. Once you start travelling around Australia you will see what proper beaches are like. All other states, except Northern Territory (it's a croc fest) have epic beaches. Again, for all you haters, I'm not bashing our Mexican (Victorian) brothers and sisters, it's just fact. Your beaches and weather suck!
"I'm not being anti-Victorian but here's a heap of anti-Victorian crap." Righto. There are good and not-so-good beaches all over Australia. Victoria's bayside beaches aren't the nicest but they are fairly clean and very safe. Tasmania has a couple of pretty beaches like Wineglass Bay but the water is freezing. Queensland likewise but with stingers and crocs. SA and WA have some lesser known gems. It all depends what you want from a beach, of course.
Lovely to see you both had a nice road trip 😊😊 thats what weekend's are for. Xxx
