Filmed in 1979 in a basement club up on 72nd St in NYC called Tracks. "Romeo's Tune" was the first US single from the album "Jackrabbit Slim" and reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I was a radio DJ back in the day....this has always been my #1 favorite song of all time. Maybe I just wanted a guy that loved me as much as Steve loves in this song. (I did finally find him, and this quickly became one of 'our songs'.) The piano riff still gets me every time! So glad he's still touring!
Steve I do not know if you read these comments, dude I saw you perform this song with my friends and the memories just rush back, Thanks for your music !!!!
Heard last 30 secs or so of this on the radio the other day...only picked up "meet me in the middle of the day". Used to love this back in the day. Who is it? Steve Forbert came to mind. Sure enough it is. Such a blast to hear the whole song, live even!!
Always been one of my Favorite songs. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio in my Mom's brand new Boss 1970 Mach 1 . It had a great FM stereo for its time and my Mom and I used to crank this sound up loud.
A brilliant and timeless song. Funny how Steve doesn't fit the role at all. He always reminds me of some kid in high school who is doing karaoke wishing he could play--and he can! Love this song. Takes me back to my youth. Thank you.
I'm sorry to hear that. I too lost my baby sister and some things are still near impossible to see, hear, or do because of the memories that flood back...which feels happy plus not so happy at the very same time.... I just wanted you to know I feel for you about this song as well peace be with you...
He starts with a red Strat, but about 2:45 it morphs into a white SG for about ten seconds. Then it’s back to the red Strat. Amazingly, the shirt stays the same through the switch. That’s musical genius.
Can't say I liked this at the time or now . I know you have to play to people who contribute financially...however if you only do that . My brother used to sing this song at the local tavern. I took jackrabbit slim to college and infected my dorm buddies. 15 years later my brother Ron Sexsmith played a show with Steve and joined him on stage. Cool.
Meet me in the middle of the day Let me hear you say, "Everything's okay" Bring me southern kisses from your room Meet me in the middle of the night Let me hear you say, "Everything's alright"🎹🎶
My friend who is a drummer and producer produced his last two albums and when on the road with him and simply quit he said he was the biggest asshole of all time. If you do not believe me by his last two albums and see who the producer is John Allen he recorded those sessions in Toms River New Jersey😮
"I don't ask for all that much, I just want someone to care" - oh, yes, so much! Thanks Steve, for getting it!
This song never gets old!! Every time I hear it, "everything's ok!" One of the most underrated musicians ever ♥️♥️♥️
I was just a kid when this song came out, but it stuck in my head as one of the greats from the '70s. Love it!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

1979 comes flooding back to me in all it's pain and glory! Great memories.
Saw him in a basement bar in East Lansing when I was a student at Michigan State University, 1980 - ish. It was a great show!
Loved it then…love it now. Could play it over and over and dance.
Always liked this song and Little Steve Forbert.
Steve I do not know if you read these comments, dude I saw you perform this song with my friends and the memories just rush back, Thanks for your music !!!!
An absolute LEGENDARY performer and artist!!!!! STILL doin' it, I believe!!!
Indeed he is. Hoping to see him soon
This is one song I feel. Takes me back in time. Love it!
The Piano player is loving life...happy man...
Actually he's happy cuz he's playing with his organ... Not a piano
I saw him in a Bowling alley in Ramsey, NJ. 1984,;and and Tullamore rugby club, Ireland maybe 10/15 ?years ago. Still a fantastic songwriter ❤
From Elmwood Park. Used to hunt and fish near Ramsey
Great feel good song. Always brings back great memories when I hear it.

I wish we still heard music like this on the radio.

Alas, that 1970 Mach 1 wouldn't have been brand new at the time of this song's release in 1979. But I appreciate the sentiment of the memory.
This song takes me back in time!
A year later and nothing has changed- a great, great song.
Aww wow the lyrics are beautiful! New fave song!
Just fabulous.
A brilliant and timeless song. Funny how Steve doesn't fit the role at all. He always reminds me of some kid in high school who is doing karaoke wishing he could play--and he can! Love this song. Takes me back to my youth. Thank you.
I love the song and love the piano!
What a wonderful song, my favourite 🌹 I remember my adolescence, I listened this song with my brother...He died 5 years ago 😓
I'm sorry to hear that. I too lost my baby sister and some things are still near impossible to see, hear, or do because of the memories that flood back...which feels happy plus not so happy at the very same time.... I just wanted you to know I feel for you about this song as well

What sorcery is this, Guitar he's playing changed at 2:45....!!!
The magic of editing :)-
It's just reflection off the cameraman's shoes.
I just love it!
Already have tickets to the December Elkton Music Hall !!
Poznałem ten kawałek po obejrzeniu filmu " Synowie Mafii". 😮 to jest piękne! Pozdrawiam z Polski 🇵🇱

What a great starter song for Summer.
最初にロミオの歌をきいていっぺんに好きになった、当時20代でレコード店員だった、次のセロファンシティは今も手元にある、
De mis favoritas de mi juventud.
Love this song and you too Steve. One of my great dreams is to run into you some day (hey, I can dream)
@Robin I thought you were dead!…
although Steve did a LOT of goood tunes this one was ALWAYS my favorite by far and 1 of my favorite songs of all time!
He starts with a red Strat, but about 2:45 it morphs into a white SG for about ten seconds. Then it’s back to the red Strat. Amazingly, the shirt stays the same through the switch. That’s musical genius.
beautiful
The very best
The song reminds me of the days when there was still hope for me. Great song!
Tower Theater
Upper Darby Pa Great Show way back when
I was in H.S working nites as a dishwasher in a restaurant, when this came on the whole kitchen was getting down with our bad selves...
The joy of the piano player is amazing. Does anyone know his name? Steve is iconic but had to many expectations placed on him.. Shame on Lester Bangs
Just noticed switch from Fender strat to Gibson SG and back to strat, repeat.
yes, i saw that too-- a very short gibson phase...😉
I had the good fortune of seeing Steve at Saratoga City Hall many years ago. It was in the early 1990s. This is such a solid bit of songwriting.
Iwouldlovetolovehim
Like I said.... I would love to love him.
He looks like someone aho figured as a kid you need 500 street fights to consider yourself a legitimate tough guy.
Great song.....a strange thing....same dress and 2 different guitars in the same video....a red Stratocaster and a white Gibson SG🤷

Absolutely timeless. Thank you for this gem of a song. It was released when I was 8. Loved it then. Love it still.

One of those songs..first time you hear it you fall in love all over again Lol 😆
One of my favorite Steve Forbert songs! One question...why does the guitar change in the video?
It's variegated
My friend who is a drummer and producer produced his last two albums and when on the road with him and simply quit he said he was the biggest asshole of all time. If you do not believe me by his last two albums and see who the producer is John Allen he recorded those sessions in Toms River New Jersey😮
ALL LOVE for this guy & ALL his music!
Why does his guitar change at 2:47 in the video?
Truly a lyrical masterpiece!!
56 years young and still listening to this in 2023. Thanks Steve, wonderful memories attached to this ❤.
