I think it's good design where gear make big boost. It's arpg LOOTER game, I want to find/craft better gear and if I'm underpowered, I'l farm some time. It's fine. It looks very 2D and lower resolution compared to the more 3D style interface elements around it. Kinda just looks stuck on. I would hope that it's just placeholder art as this version of the gem interface is fairly new in the development process after all.
Amazing, some real class action gameplay, thank you! I'm so excited for the release! I love the grittiness of the visuals, the crunchiness of the sound, it looks gorgeous and feels realistic - this game is such high quality it's unbelievable.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us 😊 I'm really excited for PoE2. I'm gonna approach it with a very open mind, basically treating it like a new game and with the intent of exploring and experimenting a lot. Since this is only Early Access, there won't be a league timer "breathing down my neck", the economy is gonna be ALL over the place, and things will shift pretty rapidly when broken combos and exploits get found and subsequently fixed/reined in. I think this way I'm gonna have a good time with it no matter what. 😊
I am not an ARPG player usually but thought I would give this game a try since it looks very nice and cared for. Even though I'm a completely new player and know nothing about POE this was very informative. Thank you for making this and explaining with this amount of care. Oh man, I'm going mercenary as my main, but that sorceress-gameplay from 15:00 onwards looked so feisty! Especially in that amazing armour, making it look like a proper battlemage :) Will definitely play sorceress at a later point.
I'm really torn between witch or mercenary. On one hand, I always play lightning mage 1st, in every game that lets me, but Merc is new and shiny so.... yeah, idk. I'll decide when I get off work on the 6th. (PTO for the whole week afterwards!!!!)

This is a great video, well done! I love how you decided to do your own spin on things instead of uploading meta content. This gave me a lot of hope on what's coming this early access! LOGIN!
In regards to the customization of secondary functions in a build: I do this all the time. For instance, I'm currently playing animeprincess pcob build in SSF; I have so much stuff automated, different flasks, and auras reserving health, etc. that he doesn't have in his guide/POB. It's just more comfortable for me to automate as much as possible. Now, of course, these automations and additions are (now that I'm getting to red maps) detrimental to my overall DPS and survivability, so I'll likely be breaking down and following his guide to a T to progress, but point being, if you're not a complete noob, you can alter build guides and be fine until red maps.
The forced single support gem thing I think is one of the most brilliant decisions in the game. We'll see how it pans out in the long run but as someone who would definitely prefer a sort of toolbox approach to building characters, and especially characters hybridized across different types of abilities, it seems like there's tremendous potential. If you are otherwise not casting any spells, but then choose to pick up one, you can load it up with all of the all star spell supports that would otherwise be useful. Sure, maybe the rest of your build may not directly support that spell, but you will be able to get much higher in approximation to a strong ability simply because you have support gems that will otherwise be untouched to go for there.
How is the button bloat? I'm loving most of the changes, but I'm very worried about being forced into a many-button build or one that constantly forces you to use combos.
That is the core combat design in POE2 unlike in POE1 and it is intentional. Usually you will have to use combination of at least 2-3 skills for maximum damage. POE1 wont be shutting down anytime soon so if ppl dont feel like it they can always go back to it. No harm done here
@ariklan8339 poe1 doesn't have a lot of 1 button builds either really. It's just a bummer. The rest of the game seems so fun so it's a shame the combat will be a huge flaw. But I think playing with controller will help a bit. Having to switch between keyboard and controller all the time will suck though.
The new "only one" support gem thing feels like its gonna be much better and requier a lot more thought then POE1 system of almost always using same set of support for every skill. And with the number of differend support gems, there is just ridiculous number of possible combinations for every skill
Super excited for EA! I followed your SRS Guardian build to the T two leagues back and had a ton of fun! Eagerly awaiting what you cook up with the Sorc/Chronomancer!
Big question for Sorc - how much do you feel you would be fighting in range, vs at distance? I know you were talking about that Act2 starter boss and why you weren't at range, but do you feel as a ranged class, you are spending too much time with mobs on top of you? I always league start as the Ranger, but I'm a mage/sorc at heart. However I'm wondering if it would be better to start as melee. Raider was what I loved toward the end of that Ascendency because there was just too much mobs on your head, so to speak. Thank you for makingt his - first video coverage of the Sorc I've seen thus far!!
All of GGG's own footage I've seen have had QERTF for skills. An MMO mouse will probably be a blessing for people who are unaccustomed to pressing movement keys & keybinds at the same time with one hand.
I change all ARPG from qwert to spacebar-asdf. (movement skill on spacebar) and all flasks to mouse 4-qwer. I suspect I'll come up with a similar tactic for POE and using WASD. (I'll likely revert to click to move on certain classes/ playstyles but not at the beginning)
I think the idea of the 'magazines' for crossbows is a. Making it feel distinct to bows and b. I suspect that crossbow can dump damage faster/harder than bow can so this is a way to even the field.
I'm going in with the mindset it is EA. The game could be completely different by the time it gets out of EA. So I am not going to get too upset at things I dislike and just try to give feedback
Hey @subtractem I'm watching you a lot on twitch and I like your fire trap elementalist. I feel fire dot - ignite can be super strong for poe2 content. So I want to buy fire dmg - ignite character but I sticked on picking ascedency for it. Infernal has nodes for it, but as Witch class. it has a lot of minions. So maybe mercenary it has fire based skills. Or my last option is basic sorceress stormweaver with all dmg can shock + double shocks for making ignite bigger. Anyway there isn't much fire ascedencys expect infernal. What do you think would be good for ignite / fire base ascedency?
Thanks Sub for NOT click-baiting or playing the algorithm game and bombarding your fans with unnecessary and excessive PoE 2 content prior to early access like so many other creators have been doing these last few weeks. A video here or there is fine but so many people are just releasing way too much speculative fluff content. I've actually unsubbed from a few channels for this reason.
Damn, i was hoping the combat was going to be like the last big showcase in terms of difficulty and pacing. It looked incredible, not overtuned. Definitely felt soulslike.
Primarily what I want to see is the hybridization of classes and skills. Can I have a crowd control monk? Using freeze effects, chrono from sorc? Or is the hybrid only from skills on weapons? So no actual class splitting? If there is true hybridization, do I need to level a monk and a separate sorc to then move the skills over once they get the gems to drop? It's what I'm most excited for. The monk seemed so squishy that having a lot of CC effects seemed like a necessity.
All classes can use all skill gems and all weapons if that is what you mean. There are a few skills coming from the ascension that are tied to a class, but for the most part they either provide an utility or empower other skills. The chrono you are mentioning is tied to a Chronomancer since the time manipulation skills come from the ascendancy tree, not from gems. But yeah, you could technically have a full spell build for a monk and run around with a wand if you like. And it might actually end up being good if you do it smart.
I'm really glad it looks you can grind up to bypass some skill curve. I was worried that even with good rare gear bosses will just take ages. Might not mind grinding the early zones for a good weapon to start with.
I prefer this format of video. Ive had my own automotive related brand for ten years now and I spent about 6 months trying to appease the algorithm, doing tiktok, using trending songs etc. It sucked the life out of me. Rather make less and enjoy what I am doing. Always appreciated your straight forward honest non-hypey presentation.
Any initial thoughts on how youre going to build chronomancer? I saw youre as excited as me to see a time sorcerer ascendency, i cant wait to see what can be cooked with that cooldown reduction
I can't wait to see these visuals on my own screen, without low framerate & compression artifacts. I have a 165Hz 1440p IPS screen that I absolutely LOVE for one of its flaws: uncalibrated, it's quite a bit oversaturated. But that's my fucking jam. Every spell effect in this game is going to POP.
Trying to get a bunch of my friends into PoE2, do you think the onboarding for new players will be significantly easier then poe 1? Could never convince them to try poe 1 because of the overly complex mechanics of things.
Played the Huntress in Act 2 at gamescom 2023 and all those adds during the Rathbreaker fight really messed me up, but back then flasks did not recharge like they do now, so I hope I'll do better in EA. Don't even know what class to pick yet, but as soon as Huntress will join EA I'll be all over it. Also can't wait for all the content coming out from you. Always exciting on a new game launch.
You are saying that you was on every event, can you tell us did they remove mirrors of kalandra from the game? Did you have currency stash tab in poe 2 to check that?
Definately going with Mercenary (played alot of the usual classes over the years with ARPG's but the Mercenary is something a little different) i'll stick with it through the early game no matter what. With POE 2 there seems to be alot of possibilities with builds so going to experiment to the max.
Mercenary seems like he's going to hit that sweet spot between Shadow and Ranger I've always wanted. I've always envied Pathfinder for some of her options compared to Shadow, but disliked the archer fantasy. A crossbow is a very different vibe from a longbow though, and Merc brings that edgy cool feeling that want from Shadow. Having access to ailment gameplay (poison/burn/bleed damage nodes) is important to me and while I still won't get those nice poison traits from Pathfinder as a merc, I will get Gemling Legionnaire, who gives me Trickster vibes in the way those skills encourage hybrid builds.
If you don't have the crazy gear... you just grind for it, that's how these games go It's weird how people judge the game by characters that didn't have time invested in them like you normally would
Now I wonder what the Mercenary would have been like if you got a good drop like you did with the Sorc because that damage and reloading looked abysmal on the Merc
@MartinWoad yeah, i was just under the impression that you still used sockets in gear to socket main skil gems and then the support gems were tied to the the main skill gem. Very happy its not tied to gear sockets at all. Cause gear sockets will basically be our new crafting bench with the little runes you can slot onto them.
@@TheCosmicAstro- Yeah, the sockets in items are purely to add mods to items now. But be careful, you cannot remove these runes and cores once socketed.
Man, I want to have a huge minion army, but Mercenary looks so fun to play... I wonder how viable/possible it will be to play a minion Mercenary. If I recall correctly, there were at least a golem and a weird snake thing in PoE1 that were kind of DEX minions, and there were some armoured duded or angels that were STR minions, so perhaps there will be stuff like that in PoE2 as well? Or maybe a shotgun Witch would make more sense? XD I am just glad that the Druid isn't in yet, because then it would be even more difficult to pick my first character. XD Also, despite how great the game looks visually, I heard the system requirements are quite humble. These guys just seem to know what they're doing, which is extremely rare in today's gaming landscape. So yeah, I couldn't be any more hyped. ^.^
Seeing the mage damage with that weapon early on really just makes me think how we are going to see a very large difference in peoples opinions of the game. The fact you can go from that Merc with bad items to the mage with OP weapon and just melt the boss. Let the balancing begin lol.
I cant help but feel 50/50 about poe 2. Some of the things i love about poe is feeling strong and fast. I love the grind and doing 1 or two button builds. Poe 2 looks like they slowed it down a lot and you need to use 5 spells or more to deal damage which really turns me away. Im also not a fan of souls-like games and they're taking factors from that and throwing it into poe 2. Cant help but feel like they're removing all the things i like about poe. I hope i can still feel zoomy and strong at poe 2 endgame and not have to faceroll my keyboard to deal damage 🤞
I recommend watching the late game footage, it's a lot faster. I had the same concerns but it seems to get a lot better, so I felt differently when I saw that. I think the early game experience will have to be tweaked because it looks pretty dire and will turn away new players. In saying that, I'm yet to see anything to impress me from the mercenary despite it being the class I'd like to play, as reloading for the cost of worse damage, no mobility, survivability or aoe compared to the other classes.
LOGIN!!!!!! I'm soon 40 yo and waiting POE2 like I was waiting santa in christmas. This is fucking crazy.

Any initial thoughts on how youre going to build chronomancer? I saw youre as excited as me to see a time sorcerer ascendency, i cant wait to see what can be cooked with that cooldown reduction
I appreciate your poe content more than any other gaming content creator. Thanks for the candor. Keep it up!
Controller or keyboard/mouse? Controller and inventory is a mess. WSDA and pressing skill buttons is a mess, too. What do you recommend?
I'm going KBM but they said they're adding hot swapping so using both might be viable later.
I'm most excited to watch all the zerg broken build streamers get absolutely shit on by this game
W
How do you think the starting scene will change with 12 selectable characters? There does not seem to be enough space on the execution stage.
Oh god, that sorceress skills looks so cool ❤
I can't wait to see these visuals on my own screen, without low framerate & compression artifacts. I have a 165Hz 1440p IPS screen that I absolutely LOVE for one of its flaws: uncalibrated, it's quite a bit oversaturated. But that's my fucking jam. Every spell effect in this game is going to POP.
You are always a pleasure to watch, sub. Can't wait for your POE2 content!
HOLY LOGIN THAT STAFF
How does recording at a special event like this work, are they providing the tech? Do you have your own bag of stuff to record with?
Weapon swap should have given best of both!! For shard use the lvl5 staff, while for other cold skills set it to use early +cold skill staff.
CANT WAIT TO PLAY THIS!!
Is there cumunity to discuss about PoE 2?
Trying to get a bunch of my friends into PoE2, do you think the onboarding for new players will be significantly easier then poe 1? Could never convince them to try poe 1 because of the overly complex mechanics of things.
Which 2 classes would work well to play couch coop all the way from start?
Played the Huntress in Act 2 at gamescom 2023 and all those adds during the Rathbreaker fight really messed me up, but back then flasks did not recharge like they do now, so I hope I'll do better in EA.
Don't even know what class to pick yet, but as soon as Huntress will join EA I'll be all over it.
Also can't wait for all the content coming out from you. Always exciting on a new game launch.
do ytou have too click a skill to reload or doees it reeeload automamtically on the emrceenary??
Great video and happy to see your explanations. Looking forward to see the next ones.
Those lags with Empy are so fun. Can`t wait to stuck in endless queue on Dec 6th.
This is real nextgen visuals and animation!
Is it posible for you to uploard the full soso footage with no commentary?
30 seconds in and liked the video, nothing worse than click bait, thank you brother :) LOGIN
Is ice shards a staff only skill or can you socket it as a skill gem as well? I don't see it in the DB yet
20:40 good to see that mana not emptying after a couple skill uses
What are you planning on league starting? I'm really tempted to play around with chronomancer.
Chronomancer 100%!
Monk
I wonder how your thoughts on this will be different after getting the game fully in your hands. Especially that Rathbreaker fight
Really looking forward the first "early access starter guide"
You are saying that you was on every event, can you tell us did they remove mirrors of kalandra from the game? Did you have currency stash tab in poe 2 to check that?
I’m
Actually really looking forward to playing some kind of zDPS support builds. I hope there’s good options available.
So you think a fire sorc would be a fun starter?
that's my current plan yeah!
Really looking forward to follow your journey in PoE2.
Before there was an act 6 the faster casting ice nova meta existed. We've come full circle.
That is a CRAZY difference between the Sorc and Merc.
comment for the algorithm
I wonder how they're gonna fit every class on that gallow...
You playing Sorceress on start? That fire and ice is crazyyy?
I'm so damn excited... Thanks for the video, mate!❤
Curious why you played merc when sorc/mage is always your fav?
If you don't have the crazy gear... you just grind for it, that's how these games go
It's weird how people judge the game by characters that didn't have time invested in them like you normally would
You're right, this is my first arpg so thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind going forward.
@@subtractem lmao
Now I wonder what the Mercenary would have been like if you got a good drop like you did with the Sorc because that damage and reloading looked abysmal on the Merc
So what determines how many main skill gems you can have equipped?(not supports)
Is it just default X amount?
Yes, but there are ways to increase it.
@@MartinWoad where'd you get the information stating you can't remove the runes from?
@TheCosmicAstro- From one of the recent interviews with Jonathan. I can't remember the name of the interviewer, but there were a few.
Are the numbers on the top right of the boss HP bars actual raw damage numbers?
I like how dark and gritty this game looks
When does it release?
can you switch to PoE1 style movement? i have always had problems with skills on qert when im using WASD to move
yes, you can used wasd or mouse movement
@@TaylorLodge awesome thanks for letting me know...i dont know why my mind doesnt work with WASD and the buttons around it
Man, I want to have a huge minion army, but Mercenary looks so fun to play...
XD
I am just glad that the Druid isn't in yet, because then it would be even more difficult to pick my first character. XD
Also, despite how great the game looks visually, I heard the system requirements are quite humble. These guys just seem to know what they're doing, which is extremely rare in today's gaming landscape. So yeah, I couldn't be any more hyped. ^.^
The Gem ascendancy of Mercenary I think will be an excellent minion ascendancy.
@@madhatten5123 The thing is Merc start (Bottom) is the total opposite of the Witch start (Top) where most of the Minion node should be located.
@@kiorodjirane8517 I haven’t seen the full tree yet. I was just thinking about how socket starved minion builds are. It’ll definitely get interesting.
Watch the endgame footage from GGG. It looks similar to PoE1
Oh no!!! That'd be awful if you couldn't be a completely mindless twit. Everything should be insanely mindless so my pea brain can keep up
