    Brilliant series. If only TV was like this today. The writing and research on this BBC series was incredible. Directed exceptionally well+plus the acting was just superb. No wonder Law & Order caused so much controversy back in 1978.

    Brilliant, gritty and dark mini-series. It portrayed the police as being just as crooked as the criminals they chased which is why it caused a stir at the time. This truly went against more heroic representations of the cops in shows like The Sweeney.

    I get your point especially with regard to the earlier episodes of the series where Regan and Carter were shown to be very ruthless and uncompromising in their dealings with blaggers, thugs and kidnappers. In the first 2 series, they definitely had a raw edge which I think was toned down a bit later on to make them more likeable, although there were still episodes where they could be very tough. An interesting crossover would've been L&O's Fred Pyle vs. Jack Regan.

      To get back to the original question: this was made and aired (on UK's BBC2) in 1977-8. Never seen there since - too disturbing for many with a vested interest in keeping the image of the police shining bright.
      A novelisation was also available for a time. Probably out of print now, but might be worth scouring second-hand bookshops for a copy.

    • @Spectrescup
      @Spectrescup 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Krzyszczynski the idea that has never been seen since is a popular myth. It was repeated in 1980 and has been seen a few times this century. The upload available on youtube has a BBC4 logo visible throughout. That would be impossible if it hadn't been seen since '78.

    Very good acting, however even allowing for the early 70s, evidence was NEVER handled like that, and firearms charges could not simply be dropped, no matter what was being offered in terms of intel. [I work for the Met police, BTW]
