I don't consider those statements contradictory statements from Zanetto. In his opinion, Hurley wasn't ready for the NBA. But that assessment, while certainly interesting, isn't what actually matters. What matters is the Lakers' assessment, and to them, Hurley is NBA-ready. That raises the next question of what it would take to get Hurley to leave a great situation at UConn that he genuinely loves. In Zanetto's (and our) opinion, 6/$70M wasn't enough to truly put Hurley to a decision. Or to just allow the Lakers to look like they put out a truly serious offer, even if he turned it down, which is what Brian and I have been discussing. But either way, Zanetto didn't contradict himself at all. Whether or not he thinks Hurley would have been a good use of the Lakers' money, the sticker price is still the sticker price.
