If you are suggesting the shotgun I would add, Gun cabinet, bore snake and oil, certificate cost. What a fantastic video to get people who are interested in clay shooting, confidence making the right choices for them.
Great video, thanks. However, a little scary when its me and my 2 daughters who have just started !!!!! But seeing the look in their faces when they dust those clays is priceless right? We have done our first lessons and it put us on the right path, now its time to put that into practice, lots and lots of practice along with bacon rolls and tea / coffee!
Multi-lens safety glasses - $150 Electronic earmuffs - $150 Skeet vest - $50 Gun bag - $30 Shotgun - $1500 Club membership - $200 Ammunition - $50 Cleaning accessories - $50 The amount of fun you'll have in one afternoon - priceless.
Now that I've had 6 months to think about it, the best investment was to buy a digital safe. That way I can easily access my shotgun and spend time practicing and shouldering the shotgun. I seem to hit more these days.
Just started last autumn and your calculations are fairly accurate. Gun £700, Ear protection £20, Skeet vest £30, Cleaning kit £25. Cartridges £56 slab and that is it for the moment. I wear glasses anyway so eye protection is covered. Normal baseball cap and cargos with a sturdy pair of boots and all is good...... bacon roll and tea is a must if shooting or not.
Just a quick comment about the eyes - if you need a prescription in glasses there are a few options, but I found most of them put coloured lenses over a standard prescription lens. With these you can tend to actually be looking over the top of the prescription portion of the lens. (Might just be my way of shooting but I found it gave me double vision, as the portion of the barrel in the lens was pointing in a different direction). I ended up buying a pair of prescription Oakley Flak Jackets. Quite pricey but in my option worth their weight in gold as it is a single coloured lens that is prescription. Can highly recommend if you need glasses when shooting.
I got a nice Chinese bag from Amazon, does the job. Recommend taking a drink and snack, back up ear plugs and different glasses option. Also a decent pen!

"The continuous war of attrition that clay shooting is".. that made me chuckle... while a tear simultaneously ran down my cheek. A minutes silence for all the busted bank accounts out there. Intoxicated on the fun of clay shooting so your inhibitions go out the window and then you have the come down later and reality kicks in that you've spent a few days wages you'll never get back lol.

Great video. I would agree lessons are good I went to another shooting ground yesterday had a lot of driven and further away tricky clays. Granted people who shoot game this would be simple for them. I just was lacking the knowledge and experience to hit them repeatedly so looking to go back for a lesson or two to improve.
Hi Jonny, I’ve been doing clay shooting for a few years now and recently went on a couple deer stalking sessions, although they were rather costly and I was wondering if you guys could possibly do a video on how to get started deer stalking but not just with a guide? Alec
The Gun Shop possibly so,e stuff along the lines of getting a dsc1, finding land to shoot on, getting police clearance if that’s needed, all that kinda stuff? More into getting into it and finding a place t shoot and getting permission more than the stalking itself. Many thanks guys
I think you should also consider the costs of buying too cheaply when starting out. Then selling at a loss to upgrade later. I've done this on several hobbies and learnt it better to grow into equipment than outgrow them as you improve.
If you know someone who had access to workshop PPE then glasses and ear plugs can be got for free. I have quite a bit of PPE from time working on oil refineries so stocked up on glasses and ear plugs. As they are rated for explosive environments within oil & gas they are better quality that the cheapo stuff. I have them in my kit bag for when I take a guest shooting with me. For mid tier glasses I actually went to Kaga optics as I needed prescription glasses. Asked for a discount and got a 15% voucher code, so got a nice multi lense kit, with prescription lenses, for about £50
All good information as usual. What does one do if they wear prescription glasses? Are there fit overs or will I have to get three different colors of lenses in scrips? My everyday glasses have clear polycarbonate lenses. Is it safe to shoot with those? Thanks for another great video.
There are plenty who do just use their standard glasses. Proper prescription safety glasses are the answer but you can also get shooting glasses that have a clip in lens set at the back you can have filled with your prescription.
Hi John. Thanks for the video. I have a friend who is just starting clay shooting and has been encouraged to shoot left handed as he is left eye dominant. He purchased a second hand Browning 525 privately from another shooter. It turns out that the gun is right handed with a stock that has been bent to facilitate left handed shooters. Is it possible to purchase a true left handed stock and fit it to his gun without much tinkering to get a good fit? Cheers
It is possible, although it might be a better financial move to trade the gun in for a true left handed than to buy a stock which will sit around £500.
Use petrol, not diesel. But seriously invest in a good quality used shotgun, £900 ish, don’t forget shotgun license, cleaning kit, shotgun cabinet. And then enjoy 👍🏴
I'm a qualified CPSA instructor and i would highly recommend anyone thinking of taking up the sport to find a good "QUALIFIED" instructor from the offset Because your 1st lesson will contain all the NECESSARY Safety info to keep you and every one else safe this would be done alongside your shooting instructing from day one . Be wary of taking instruction from a friend because unless he has had lessons from a qualified instructor he will most likely just import all his bad habits to you and some of them might be dangerous. A good shot does not always mean a good teacher . I know a person who is a great shot but his teaching skills are crap. Then loads of practice to improve the skills you have been given and to feed the addiction . I am based at Headley Gun Club Surrey so we see a lot of 1st time shooters in our training section and its always money well spent
When choosing my first gun I went through all options from £600 ata up to £1500 SP or b525. I decided if I wanted to keep the gun I would pay more first than regret it a few months or so later. Also seem comments similar to yours which made my decision even easier. Went b525 felt amazing and bought it on the spot haven't looked back since.
So are you telling me that if I'd have worn my TGS ballcap I would have shot 100 at our last match instead of 95?😉 It was an incredibly easy match. 95 should have been a right hand score for me.
If you are suggesting the shotgun I would add, Gun cabinet, bore snake and oil, certificate cost.

The Old Hobbit Hi you need shot gun proofed glasses not just ordinary prescription glasses. If that’s what you were referring to.
Great vid as always - loved "Addiction" and "War of attrition". A year into shooting this is more expensive than my motorcycling addiction 😂
Richard Cranston i agree and i come from road cycling

In a nutshell , good no nonsense advice !
Top video guys. As I wear glasses, do shooting ground accept these as protection? Is there like clip on tinted lenses available or any other options?
blimey a year without a reply. Normal specs are usually considered as being ok protection

What's the cheapest you can get prescription shooting glasses. Wearing glasses over normal glasses is horrible :P
usually your normal everyday glasses are considered ok safety wise

Could you reccomend a section 2 lever action shotgun please?
How much would you pick up an automatic trap for? Any recommendations?
stephen mac you can spend £400 or £1600 for a Bowman. But you can find second hand ones they have barley been used for fairly cheep
just sold one 2nd hand 8 stacker le port with remote release £800 there out there just keep looking
