in the concert in the US, they read papers in English to interact to the audience. there were some times that Ami translated what the audience said to Yumi. I think they only don't feel confident to speak English on interviews.
lysica Dandel What's the point of asking a question if you disable replies to your post? They understand English and can probably speak it very well, but they are most likely just not confident in their speaking skills. Ami wanted to be a flight attendant before singing as part of PUFFY, so she took English lessons for interacting with foreign passengers. As proof of her skills, she's written English verses in their songs. Nice Buddy is mostly Japanese with two English verses at the end, and Security Blanket, which she wrote for her daughter, is entirely in English. She also wrote the fully English lyrics of Bring It On!. She said on her blog one day that she had a conversation at the park with an Australian woman (I think that she was Australian) while her daughter was playing at the playground. It wouldn't be much of a conversation if there wasn't a shared language. Yumi took English lessons in Los Angeles for many months to at least a year while Ami was on maternity leave. She probably also took it in high school, but I can't be sure of that. She answered me during one of their concerts when I shouted something at them, first in Japanese and then in English, though it was two short words in both languages. It is clear to me that Ami's English skills are stronger than Yumi's English skills. But they are both awesome anyway!
The Joker-Senpai The TV show was actually called _Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi_. The title of the show is saying greetings to Ami's and Yumi's western duo name. In their home country of Japan and other parts of Asia, they're called "PUFFY." "Puffy AmiYumi" is what they're called outside of those countries, especially in the U.S., because the rapper Diddy used to be called "Puffy" when PUFFY first came here in 2000 to play SXSW. I choose to call them by their real duo name of PUFFY to spite that egomaniac rapper, who ended up changing his name at least four times. To answer your question, they didn't voice themselves on the original US version of the show. That was Grey DeLisle as Yumi and Janice Kawaye as Ami. Grey DeLisle has voiced characters like Mandy (_The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy_), Vicky (_The Fairly OddParents_), Azula (_Avatar: The Last Airbender_), and many more characters. Janice Kawaye is best known for playing Jenny (_My Life as a Teenage Robot_). Yumi and Ami have only played themselves in the first episode of the show when it was dubbed into Japanese. For the other Japanese episodes, voice actors were used. I hope that helps!
V.C. Nguyễn And it is absolutly funny to see american in love for a japanese TV show ! Im french and only know japanese stuff from Amy & Yumi. I like them more when I see they can do that to America. They are really the best japanese cultural ambassador of the last decade.
I am lysica dandel sorry I didn't know my replies were disabled. And that's so amazing that she wrote security blanket for her daughter! That is my favorite puffy ami yumi song but I can't really find much information about it :(
i think so. i also have this kind of problem. i understand it and can write it but when it comes to speaking its really hard. most of the time i would reply someone question with my native language instead..
kuririn1975 that's the same thing about me. i'm so nervous of screwing up that i end up getting choked when i'm trying to speak english. the thing is there're many other people that have worse english skills than i'm but they still push themselves to speak english among the foreigners. i myself on the other hand can't even speak a clean line without getting sweats dripping all over my balls.
English is so confusing...double-meaning, slang, weird pronouncing of certain phrases...So many other countries have a much more simple(and beautiful) way of language -Like Japan!🇯🇵🐼
***** 2:14 "It's all about dogs!" Huh? The only original theme song parody I remember that was done on _Teen Titans Go!_ was one about dodgeball, not dogs. What did you mean, Gen?
***** If you were a fanboy, then wouldn't you have kept up with them? To bring you up to speed, they've released albums and singles in the past few years (I don't know how long ago your high school days were to know where to start off in my description) including songs for various shows and cartoons. They had their fifteenth anniversary in 2011 and released an anniversary album wherein they wrote the lyrics to most of the songs. This year is their nineteenth anniversary and next year will be the big 2-0!
