We have them growing in pots at the entrance of our subdivision in JUNE 110F degree weather and doing great! They do get some dappled shade from surrounding tree, but the dry air (humidity at 5!) and wind has not deterred them at all. We'll see if they make it through winter, they say in zone 9 areas they can freeze back but if its a warmer southern area zone 9 they can come back year after year.
NOTE: we have not planted them into the ground, they're left in their pots with covering around them to appear they're in-ground. We thought we'd wait til they get acclimated to the intense heat and lack of humidity first then plant them in-ground. But if we leave them in pots we can easily bring them in for winter. We'll see! Right now we're just so amazed and happy that such a beautiful blooming plant with such deep green leaves thrives in this heat. Even if a plant isn't in direct sun, the heat here is 110F IN THE SHADE and that alone causes plants to wilt a bit.

Heat loving plants are definitely hard to come by and dipladenia does not disappoint with all its blooms. I bet your subdivision entrance is beautiful.

So you don't loosen the root balls after they come out of the plant pots?

If it’s an annual (short lived) I don’t, sometimes on perennials I will.
