  • This is advice specifically geared towards the monastic novice, but the wisdom is clearly translatable to the single and married man or woman. Saint Paisios is straightforward and simple in his teaching and he guides the reader toward Heaven.

    Thank you for the words in your description box. Married or single, our own homes can be our caves, our cells, our hermitage because aligning oneself with God, our Eternal Father, through JESUS CHRIST is from the inside out. Our homes are the first place 🌹✝️🌹

      That's wonderful if you have any questions feel free to reach out on Twitter.
      This advice was specifically for new monks novices. Not for people in a parish.
      Monks have a very strict diet that they adhere to, a prayer rule, and a lifestyle that's very specific and different from those not living the angelic life

    Your body tells you what you need. Several times a week I drink nothing but water because I know and feel that I need it. And if you crave a cheesesteak sub, don’t deny yourself unless you should. The stress over food is worse than the food itself.

    • @keithmayhewhammond5357
      @keithmayhewhammond5357 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The point of fasting is self denial which requires denying yourself what you crave. Our cravings are often not just out of need but out of wanting more than we need. By denying ourselves valid things it prepares us spiritually and strengthens us to deny invalid things.

    Where can I learn more about diet practices and their importance in Orthodoxy, for 'ordinary' people? I eat a lot of stir-fryed vegetables and fat, and also many exceedingly small meals throughout the day instead of three larger ones. Maybe I should change that?

    • @mstash5

      @@mstash5 Yea, I feel better and more satiated eating fat. I tried cutting out fat for some time a year ago, but I kept having food cravings. With plenty of fat (as much as carbs, calorie-wise), I feel satiated for much longer and like I don't need to eat constantly.

    Just because St. Paisios wrote this advice does not mean that we should follow it. Everything a saint has said, is not necessarily good advice for us. Certainly one can learn about an attitude of self restraint and appropriate abstinence from this little speech. However, much of what he is saying is what was believed to be healthy at the time. Not necessarily all true for today. Always submit to one's own spiritual father or mother.

      It's Saint Christopher, My Saint. Found in the walls of ancient churches in Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia... Dogs represented those on the outside. The salvation of St Christopher is the story that anyone can be saved and that Jesus wants everybody.
