I think that bit just before Bethany gets into the car is giving us a sneak peak to the future,e.g.,Bethany goes back to how she use to be(nice,kind,happy...)and then turns Nathan in.
i think this bc,she tells Mary to tell her mum that she loves her,notice how she doesn't say,tell my mum I hate her?
This is all just my opinion but personally I think this is the beginning of her changing and realising what a scum bag he is.
