- This game was a complete mess! Both players were winning at some point! Check out this round 5 battle at the Superunited Rapid and Blitz, part of the Grand Chess Tour between Gukesh and Vidit. Vidit had lost all his 4 previous games and was clearly under pressure. Gukesh had just beaten the overnight leader MVL and was on a high.

@@LoneWanderer66 no, Hikaru made mistakes in opening and hence lost. 2 wins in candidate doesn't prove anything. Vidit doesn't have positive record against nepo, anish and Wesley who are actually defensive player and rarely overattack. He wins against super gms when they push for more and blunder. Aka Firouza etc.
Guys everyone has a bad phase so dont criticise! He had great before!
When you spend your whole life playing chess, it's hard to accept that your not as good as you want to be. Not just chess, it applies to every sport

Honestly, Gukesh needs to improve a lot in shorter versions. He had no chance if there was a tiebreaker in the Candidates with Fabi/Hikaru/Nepo. Considering that many classical tournaments are decided in rapid/blitz tiebreaks, including WCC, he might suffer in future if he doesn't improve.
But he is best in classical which is the pure form of chess! So its okay! He is improving really well in these formats now
No doubt, among GMs Vidit stands out. But against Super GMs he lacks consistency.
