Happy 850th birthday Glasgow , you don’t look a day over 800 , when I was at school when we celebrated Glasgow 800 , they gave us all a commemorative mug , I wish I’d kept it , maybe it be worth a couple of quid today, anyway thanks for the great content Dave and hears tae another 850 ! 😊
Another brilliant episode filled with information and humour in equal measure. I’ve passed the Theneu mural in the Calton many times puzzled by the addition of the fish but now I know. Your dedication is greatly appreciated, cheers Dave
Absolutely fantastic video. Thank you for this. In the 80's I worked in Kentigern House in Anderston. (MoD). Almost no one knew why it was so called. Happy birthday to us. I've had Americans asking why Glasgow is based on the New York layout. I've never had the heart or the patience to try to explain. Once again, thank you.
@@AstonishingGlasgow You have 30 seconds to give the the location of your erm, something or other or I'm going to do actually, nothing at all. Stand easy. The name is Crap Bond!

Thank you for another great video and good to see - despite peoples faith or none - the Christian roots and foundation of this dear green place covered.
Well thank you Sir, that was an outstanding educational video. As for the pronunciation of the names, I believe that you can claim literary license. The reasoning for this is you exhausted a diligent effort researching this matter. Thank you Sir.
St Mungo is credited with the miracle of restoring life to a robin that had been killed by some of his classmates. Imagine having miracle powers, and this is how you use it?
I must say I'm not seeing Robin Williams at all 🤣 Happy Birthday Glasgow. My home for the majority of my time on this planet, and wouldn't have it any other way. 🥂
The Necropolis isn't an extinct volcano, similar kind of rock though. Other than that good video and yes definitely visit the City Chambers, it's a beautiful building.
There is a caption under the mural of Theneu when I show it that says Theneu became St.Enoch. I try to keep my videos at around the ten minute mark in length. I could easily have ended up at the 30 minute mark if I told every detail which is why this video was limited to St. Mungo and the coat of arms. I will do a Theneu video in the future if there is a call for it and I also plan on doing a video all about the cathedral eventually.
The city chambers is a very opulent builiding....and would have cost a fortune at the time. I sometimes wonder what portion of that money originated from people/families that amassed that wealth through exploitation or slavery...no doubt some may petition for the building to be torn down if the answer was known...
Considering the Chambers of Commerce was built 70 years after the abolition of slavery in Britain it's highly unlikely You should be more concerned with the fact there are more slaves in the World today than when Britain ended the practice over 200 years ago!
Just where the 1st mural is I’ve seen you first time live with group of tourists I hold myself to not to scream “you are with the best guide in Glasgow!!!” 😂❤ Another grand video Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us and all the best from g333tg 🤣 Would you know any stories about this region worth to tell about?
Shout it out next time, it's much better than abuse 🤣. Thanks for getting in touch and I am really glad you enjoy the videos. I will see what I gang dig up in G33 and add it to the list.

I remember getting that mug too 😊
Another great video, without doubt one of my favourite channels on TH-cam, thank you!
Thanks to your videos, we are now planning to visit astonishing Glasgow in a few weeks! Excellent content! ❤
Thank you and "Let Glasgow Flourish" (Despite the best efforts of the City council!🤠

No more jokes from this lad. Sorry but that was scary

Great work……keep it up
Well done, a great video pulling together all those threads. Keep up the great work. Cheers.
Let Glasgow flourish by the preaching of Thy word. Full motto.
Great work! Love it!
Another great video Dave, and well researched. I agree that this is one of the best channels on you tube
It's mostly just him reading Wikipedia
Thanks
Fantastic content and I really enjoyed the simplicity of your storytelling.
Quality video, Dave 👏👏👏

Yeah, and 20% of the population are living in poverty. Thanks, god.
Top marks for the Wilhelm Scream. 👌
It was my primary school badge i went to gowanbank in the 90s/00s some nostalgia hearing about the coat of arms

Thats glasgow fir you the greatest little city in the world 😊😊😊
This is such a coincidence cause I've heard of St Mungo beers!
St. Mungo beer is brewed in Glasgow. You are duty bound to drink some tomorrow night on the feast of St. Mungo :-D
A rather tasty beer if i may be so bold....a suggest you visit the brewry, nice spot of lunch there....
I enjoyed the currywurst bites when I was there.
My old church I went to scouts at was called st kentigerns.
the other mural in the Calton was painted by artist Mark Worst from Glasgow

@@AstonishingGlasgow - no I see a resemblence to Williams, especially the eyes. Nice video.
St. Mungo drapped the bell intae the Clyde, when he fished it oot it wis wringin'.
😅 That's a joke so bad even I wouldn't have told it.
Of course I would have used it if I had thought of it 🤣

Why no mention that Theneu was also known as St Enoch especially as there is a link to Glasgow?

@AstonishingGlasgow I would love to see both 30minute videos and also the story of St Enoch. Thanks for the info.
Fantastic. Thank you
Guy who first put Glasgow on the map?..Jock Stein😁
Bartholomew?
Who knew😉
I’m I the only one having sound issues?
I’ve replayed it from the start, but the sound goes silent?
Nobody else has reported an issue, I will check it out.
Seems okay now, after the “live” event.
I turn on the closed captions although they aren't the most reliable.
