They have a breeding strategy of only keeping alive the most fit son
They lived in God valley and rocks wanted to get hold of that instruction
Two members of clan of d United to fight against him because in rocks hands it would mean chaos
Parallel Garlings wife had an issue: she had twins and wanted to keep both alive
In the big fight that happened, she managed to smuggle Shanks into the treasure chest he was found with.
The other son stayed with figarland and was severely burned in the cause of actions on his right side.
He since then took over the duty to protect the poneglyph.

It would be interesting if luffy has his devil fruit abilities taken away and gets stronger with just haki. Like if imu has the power to take away the Devil fruits abilities from its user. luffy goes against imu but loses bc imu took away luffy’s Devil fruit power. Thats when shanks saves him and retreats so he can help luffy learn how to be stronger with just his haki. Like showing haki its own awakening, not just the three abilities of haki and their advanced versions. That could be a nice twist and explains why kaido said “only haki can surpass all”.

The 5 elders will be revealed to be avatars, i think their alleged devil fruit awakening is because the fruits actually belong to imu who created the 5 elders. Seeing saturn into the water in pieces is signifcant as thats how the ushi oni is defeated by two warriors

But even if that theory isn’t correct I still think the mysterious man in the final panel is the man marked by flames, he may have fought Figarland during the God Valley incident, and that’s why he’s shown as an antithesis to figarland.
