Fine interpretation :) I played this for my oboe finals. At some places, maybe there could be a little more different dynamics. And the pitch isn't always perfect (not only the oboe's pitch, her collegues aren't always perfect either), but most of the time, it's really good. A few mistakes where in it, which didn't really bother me. But when I read some of the comments here, it sounds like she missed every third note. She definitely didn't. Why would you hate on one misplaced note when you have 100 wonderfully played notes around it? That's really bad for a musicians courage and self-esteem when he/she delivers a peformance he/she had been working really hard for and just gets negative feedback, completely ignoring all the good parts. I love her sound (pretty sick high notes) and admire her endurance. Even if you don't play the second movement (I skipped it due to the appropriate lenght of the programm), it's still hard as hell to get through it without dropping unconscious :D Also, her tongue is pretty fast and she really rocks the fast part in the third movement. I remember practicing that for days and still not being enirely satisfied. I say respect, even though it's not the most perfect interpretation. But if I expected that, I'd have to hate 99,95% of all TH-cam Videos out there.
Well wonderful to hear all this as an orchestration student.Must hear the Bliss,Bax and Vaughan-Williams concerti.The Bruno Maderna 3 concerti are also on youtube and they are the most fabulous music I know! Hogwood is a wonderful commentator!Never heard the Britten before.
I spent many hours trying to 'pull' an Oboe solo from Les Mis 10th Anniversary. I even searched far and wide for the name of the lady (a school teacher). And I've sat, drunk and weeping, several times over the years lol. This is the power that those people on your stage can have :) My video is something like "Les Miserables - Oboe - Clarinet - Violin Plucking". Something like that if you want to see which part I mean. I know a beautiful thing when I see / hear it (I think) - is all.
My son (13) is playing this oboe quartet at school right now. He also plays the violin (diploma level). I agree with fredz8, she's made a few mistakes and ran out of breath towards the end, so what? The oboe part is so much more difficult than the violin, the viola and the cello parts put together. She did well overall. Stop putting people down if you don't actually play the oboe yourself.
Well I when i was young I had a slight problem with my mouth positions. So make sure to tell him to take off his reed and do long tones without the oboe to build up mouth muscles. I hope I help you son's problem.

Interesting, that Hogwood here presents modern instruments - Hogwood known for his work with historic instruments.
