    Great review! I'm a new Country Chic Paint retailer in Bangor, Michigan. Your are very thorough. I've tried so many paints over the years in refurbishing furniture in my business... But I always come back to this one. Two coats and done. You can't beat that. The shipping may be a little steaper, but you do use less paint on your project so it makes up for it 😄

      Beth Mann Thank you! That’s a good point, I do always look for the trade offs like that as well. Good paint! Thanks for watching!

    I REALLY appreciate you mentioned that this paint has no odor. I have a rare disease that makes me super reactive to certain smells and fumes, so for me it super helpful information! I've just discovered this paint and I was super curious, so thanks for the great review!

    Very cool to see this video. I have Country Chic paint arriving this week and I cannot wait to give it a go. I got their 50mm brush last week and the brush was so nice, that I had to go back and get the paint. I ended up with the free shipping because of buying three big pots but I am with you, I don't like paying shipping either. It's something I struggle with as well. I'm trying to struggle less with it though. Cheers, Ivy.

    I tried country chic for the first time yesterday and was blown away from the coverage and quality. Have always bought FMP but my local store is discontinuing it and going with country chic, so I just bought a sample size to try. It was excellent.

    Wife bought 3 colours because value seemed quite good compared the Fusion mineral paint we had previously used. I did not look into it when she bought, but now totally regret it. Last night, I finally cracked out the gray we purchased to paint a food tray and a step stool...first coat. Woke up this morning and uh-oh!!! The paint is totally flat, chalk flat (yup...I know...the site clearly says so). If you know anything about paint, the higher the sheen (ie more gloss), generally, the more durable to scuffs, fingerprints grease etc the paint will be. Flat is by far the least durable to marking. I literally ran my finger over the surface, and it left a mark as if my finger had some residue of flour or something.
    So while I do not contest that this has good coverage (as good, maybe just very slightly better than Fusion) and is likely durable to being nicked or scraped off, be prepared to see every little scuff, scratch etc. To keep it looking like it was just painted, you need to treat flat paint with kid gloves. If its a piece that will never be touched...good to go. Or, if you don't mind the marks and scrapes, then this will work for you. But me, after taking the time to properly prep and paint, I don't want my pieces looking like they have been used as a football after a couple of weeks. The only option is top coat with clear using the Country Chic clear or tough coat (no, not interested in waxing). BUT, just learned via their web site they don't ship in winter because it seems the tough coat is affected by cold temps...so now I guess our projects are waiting until spring! Or I have to find another product locally. So while initially this seemed better value, now that I have to fork out another $45 + shipping for clear, and add yet another coat to my projects (more time and work), the value is not there anymore. The Fusion (at least the black and white we have used) dries to a satin finish, which means while not as durable as a gloss, it is 10x better at resisting every little touch than the uncleared flat of Country Chic.
    Anyway, not blaming Country Chic in any way...they make it very clear this is chalk paint. Our fault for missing this when we purchased. I just want to ensure others are aware of what a flat paint means in terms of durability to marking. ie. none whatsoever unless top-coated with a clear of some sort.

      Yes they say this is an all in one paint with a matte chalky paint finish, all dark colors it will show fingerprints, scuffs etc. Fusion is a stand alone paint with a built in topcoat as well. But keep in mind Fusion is a matte finish as well (if you look at their description that is how they describe their paint - it is not satin) this is direct from their website -Easy to apply with a smooth matte finish, Fusion™ requires minimal prep work, no finishing coat, waxing or on-going maintenance! It's a different be aware dark colors such as black, ash, midnight blue, etc still show fingerprints in the Fusion line if not additionally sealed (this comes from experience and hearing from many others as well). I am very educated about paint and yes understand and agree with the sheen. I personally use a paint and poly in one for most all of my projects in a satin sheen. Sorry you didn't have a good experience with County Chic, it is a good paint, just one that does have to be sealed in my opinion for durability and the best wear, like many other paints on the market today to have the best outcome. I personally don't use this paint on a normal rotation, I have my favorites and although this was a good paint, just not one I use regularly. Stick with what works for you!

      So thankful for your comment and the comment from Born in a Barn. I recently did a dresser in Starstruck (a medium shade of blue). I did not like the finish as you mentioned. I used Country Chic top coat. No matter how I applied it (brush - I used their recommended brush - or roller, I had areas of whitening. I even tried adding a bit of the color into the top coat. So then I went back and applied another coat of the Starstruck.
      Now I’m wondering what to do. This is a clients piece. My first custom order. I’ve already spent more money buying more paint and topcoat from Country Chic. Now I’m thinking I’ll have to get some clear wax 🤦🏼‍♀️
      Also, regarding Fusion paint, that paint sucks too. I think I’ll stick with ReThunk Junk resin paint.
      @Born in a Barn - thanks for your video

      @@Jade_902 Interesting on your thoughts about Fusion. We chose these paints because of they are both non-toxic. I don't think ReThunk makes any such claims, and therefore, if having a toxic paint is in the cards, that opens a plethora of options. It is not for us. We are now doing the railing and main posts of our banister in coal black and are likely to go Fusion with their clear tough coat, to which we can add up to 10% paint to mitigate haziness. Hoping that does the trick for us.

    What size would you do for a kitchen table or a bedroom set? With Annie Sloans, I would just buy the pint.

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tellebelle so if it were me I would purchase quart/32oz for a project like that - it will cover up to 140sf. Annie Sloan only comes in a litre/quart or the small sample size - which is less than a half pint. I would rather order a little more than to run out mid project. 😀

    Hello! I have three questions for you.........First, can I ask what wax you used to seal it? I am undergoing my first project with both chalk paint and Country Chic paint. I have Brixwax original Clear wax that I bought to use over the wood portions of my hutch, but I have had mixed answers when asking if Briwax original clear can be used over chalk paint. Second, I followed someone else's instructions and diluted the paint (4 oz size) with 2 teaspoons of water. Was this necessary? 3) Can I use a foam roller brush for the second coat to ensure a good final finish?
    Thank you - I really really enjoyed your video!

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@andreadobrin5485 I didn’t seal this - with country chic it’s optional - I prefer a water based top coat
      I would not use it over the paint - it may alter the color - if you choose to use wax as your topcoat - use one specifically for painted furniture
      I dilute because I spray but you don’t have to unless you find the paint really thick and hard to work with - I like a water mister bottle when brushing and just apply direct if needed when brushing.
      You can but I would be careful with rollers - use a really good microfiber roller - staalmeester makes a great one

    How is the durability on this? I am contemplating this or Fusion to build up a palette. I know fusion is regarded as very durable and able to get a super smooth finish.

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kelly Macfarlane Fusion is one of my top paints I use (that and General Finishes) which are both incredibly durable and can attest to that because I have been using for years. Country Chic is new to me and so I can’t say much about the durability first hand. I have only used twice so far. It is a nice smooth paint, but I can’t say I have been able to witness the durability (I have read it is very good and no complaints). I always recommend sanding in between coats with a 220 grit sanding pad with any paint for a buttery smooth finish as well. As well when you seal the piece you improve the durability incredibly. I seal all my pieces even with Fusion and General Finishes.

    Great video! Does it feel smooth or rough to the touch? Do you think itd work on untreated wood?

    • @BorninaBarnBoutique
      @BorninaBarnBoutique  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does feel pretty smooth - I would recommend priming over raw wood or the paint will sink into the grain and the water based product can raise grain on raw wood making it feel rougher.
