Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them.
Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape with the help of some prodigious penguins to explore the world.

Much like Over the Hedge, it’s really disappointing that these actors don’t do a ton of voice roles in major animated movies. They all bring a ton to their characters and none of them are annoying or out of place!

"Sexy" is a bit of a stretch, but Gloria is very pretty. Fun fact: Gloria was initially going to be pregnant in the 1st movie because she was part of the zoo's breeding program and she and Melman were going to be a couple and raise the baby hippo. But the idea was canceled for because lots of little kids would be watching the movie. Now you know why she has a big belly. XD

Imagine if it had switched with Chris Rock voicing Donkey and Eddie Murphy voicing Marty. Given that Marty has an entirely different personality compared to Donkey, for some reason it fits best for Eddie to voice the super hyper Donkey and Chris to voice the cool, humorous Marty. Like I don’t know. I can’t see Eddies voice fitting on Marty and I can’t see Chris voice fitting on Donkey…

After finally watching this franchise and getting up to the 2nd movie, I wanted to make a comment about the cast. And I see people already making connections with Gloria/Marty.
But I more aiming at the relationship between Gloria/Melman in the fact that she would prolly just cheat on him with Moto Moto. Good thing they didn't cast Melman with Will Smith eh? Otherwise it be too on the nose lol.
