Welcome to Korat or Nakhon Ratchasima. This ancient city is not only the largest province in Thailand in terms of area, but also a gateway to Northeastern Thailand. I will show you how Korat is a great place to learn about rich cultural heritage. Please follow me.
Korat was founded by King Narai The Great in 1656 during Ayudhaya period. One of the traces we can see nowadays is the city gate called Chumphon Gate or Pratu Chumphon. This morning, it is an auspicious time for me to pay respect to a statue of Thao Suranaree or Ya Mo, which is located next to Chumphon Gate, in the city centre.
Located in the heart of Korat City, Wat Phra Narai Maharat is one of the 6 temples built at the time that the city was founded. It used to be called ‘Wat Klang”, meaning Central temple due to its location. The statue of Ya Mo was located here before being moved to Chumphon Gate in 1934.
Built in 1679, Wat Boon is located to the east of the city walls. The temple name ‘Boon’ comes from ‘Burapa’, meaning ‘The East’. 14 ancient Khoi books or Samut Khoi are well preserved in perfect conditions here. Khoi books are a type of folding book manuscript widely used in many Asian countries in which Buddhism is main religion including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. Three of the Khoi books contain gorgeous Thai paintings telling the story of the previous lives of the Lord Buddha as known as the Ten Jataka Tales.
In the same area, we will find Kuti Noi, an ancient Thai house with unique architecture that cannot be found anywhere else in Thailand.
Half of Ya Mo’s ashes are embedded in a small stupa here and the other half are at her main statue in the city centre. The temple's award-winning ordination hall from the Siam Architects Society was built in 1967. It holds a large gleaming-white Buddha image in 'calming the ocean' posture.
Next, we’re heading to Phimai Historical Park which is an hour drive from Korat city centre. The ancient city of Phimai dates back to around 1,000 years ago or since the time of the ancient Khmer Empire. Now, the place is under a good care of Thailand’s Fine Arts Department.
When I enter the park, I feel something similar to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It is a classic example of Khmer architecture. The architects at that time were best known for using sandstones over the traditional bricks and laterite architectures. The temple was built to resemble the universe. There are many lotus-shaped roofs representing Mount Meru.
I love the wooden walkways built for visitors. They are beautifully blended with this historical site and easy to walk on.
From Phimai, we are going to Pak Chong to find a compilation of colonial and traditional houses which have been bought from various regions of Thailand and restored to their original beauty. I have a chance to meet the owner of today - Khun Oak, Athada Khoman - who will tour me around this amazing place, Villa Musée.
Khun Oak would like to showcase this place as a “living museum” which will serve not only as a place for learning and admiring objects of the past, but also as a place to be lived in and to experience the bygone era.
Khun Oak has a genuine interest in Thai history, especially that of the Rattanakosin period. You will find furniture, antiques, books, and photographs not only of Thai origin but also Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Burmese, and European.
This is a place where we can hold special events such as exhibitions and wedding receptions or simply stay in one of the exclusive accommodations surrounded by the beautiful great mountains of Khao Yai.
There are still more Amazing stories from Korat. Click the links below the video to discover more. Wish you a great trip to Korat MICE City!

Korat was former province of Khmer Empire, Ayuttaya Kingdom changed the name to their intonation. We call and have known as Norkorreach (នគរាជ)meaning The capital of the king. Norkorreach was former Khmer Empire’s province. Then after the fall of Khmer Empire around 13century. In 12 century, Ayuttaya province rebelled and set up their own kingdom in Khmer Empire and started to invade Khmer Empire back and burned Angkor city in Siem Reap to the ground and brought most Khmer Empire intellectuals because that period was the down fall of Khmer Empire due to the drought. Anyway, happy to see that Thai people really have taken good care of the former temples of Khmer Empire even it does not belong to Cambodia or Khmer anymore at the moment. Thai and Khmer share very similar culture. We should look to the future and present as good friendship. Stop hating each other. Past cannot change, we all accept that. Thanks for making this good video. Love Thailand and Thai people l.

In historical context, there were a lot of fight so the lands were occupied by many sides ! For example the fall of angkor wat is caused by the invasion of Siam and you know why ? It is because Khmers did invade the ayutaya kingdom at the first place and by that, they replied back to us with a huge destruction since our empire has disagreement in religion and so on.

Yasodharapura (city around Angkor wat) was occupied by Siam king many times too. Overall, I’m happy that others temples is being took care of in a good hand by the professionalism of Thai workers.

@@dafaa863 Khmer Empire fall not because of Thai but Khmer bloodline and belief system. After Khmer Empire Nagkor Vat was constructed the previous Khmer King converted into Buddhism afterward. This conversation of faith caused a Civilwar among the Khmer leaders and Royalty bloodline. I think Ayuthchea/ Ayutthaya bloodline connected to Suryavarman-II revoked on the Khmer Empire afterward. Remember Suryavarman-II was A GODKING in Khmer Hinduism history.
If Buddhism became Kambu-jadeśa official belief system, than thats mean Khmer GODKING no longer exist. This actually explain how Thai (until this day) embraced Khmer belief system who hybrid it with Buddhsim since Funan era. This is why many Thai King used Hindusm GOD title instead of Buddhsim names and belief system. Mon Khmer converted Thai ancestors into Buddhism claimed by Thai historians. AYODHYA / AYUTTHAYA was Lord Rama Kingdom in RAMAYAN/ REAMKER (IN KHMER)...

@@TheJaophrayaRiver Funny because Thai want to discredit Khmer so bad (even help funded Pol Pot regime with U S help thru Northern Thailand border) but used Khmer letters in their Pali instead of Thai water down writing system?? It's historical fact that the orginal Dvaravati were "Mon Khmer family " who taught Thai chinese (migrated from Southern China) religion. Plus modern day science can traced your Tai Chinese ancestor before migrating into Se-Asia and resettle in modern day Thailand. Ayutthaya (Ayutthchea real name) was created by Suryavarman bloodline which the famous Tai Chinese Preah Thong end up marrying a Khmer princess (of the region and formed alliances with immigrants) and took over the throne and rebel against Khmer King demands and raising taxes. Preah Tong was a peasant escaping Mongolian wrath into Se-Asia..

Yep, the reason why there is a Khmer transcript is that Buddhist monks are interested in learning old languages and translating manuscripts. They pretty much preserve what is lost.

    • @sppro994
      @sppro994 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Katcom111 No, the reason why they used Khmer letter because (the real truth) is Cambodian ancestor spread Buddhism into Se-Asia. Mainstream Historian don't want to give Cambodian ancestor credit. We even went to ancient China in 3rd century translated Buddhist scriptures to one of ancient China kingdom. We even believed Buddha himself foretold about Khmer history before Funan Kingdom was formed. Look up Tomneay Preah Putah. It mention the fall of Funan , Khmer Empire and how we will genocide ourselves (1975 - 1979). Abandoned city like Battambong (also happen 1975 - 1979). Bangkok (Thailand) will become a ghost town / city too foretold by Khmer ancient prophecy. Why Bangkok? Because it was once apart of Khmer Empire. Until this day Thai King and their Shaman scared of this ancient prophecy..
