Thank you very much for this. One of my two Sommer openers refused to open more than 6-8 inches today, so I tried your Reset Force instructions, & they worked!

My 550 has worked well for years. Now it won’t, I hit the reset button. All it will do now is lights flash on and off and won’t open ? Can’t get it to do anything but operator light on and off constantly

Your best bet is probably to email SOMMER at support@sommer-usa.com and they'll send you diagnostic steps to figure out what's wrong with it.

Stumbled across this video when my opener wouldn’t work. Springs were broken, causing the door to be too heavy, even in manual mode.

My motor has no reset buttons. What’s the process then?

If you have a SOMMER motor, it has to have a reset button. If it's an evo+ or pro+ model, the reset button will be on the motor carriage circuit board--you'll have to remove the motor carriage cover. Reset instructions for those models are in section 7.14 in this manual: www.sommer.eu/SOMMER/Downloads/Montageanleitung/Garagentorantriebe/USA/evo/usa_evo-plus_46900V024_122022_0-DRE_Rev-C_US-EN.pdf.

The quality of these operators is questionable, the local distributor isn't helpful ("I sold 4 of these and stopped carrying them"), and the documentation is terrible. Thank you for providing such a comprehensive and descriptive video.

👉💯👈agreed... they are not available when calling for customer support. And don't return calls after you live a message. Basically there is no customer support.
The lifetime warranty is only as good as the company that is behind it. And there's nobody behind this company.
Which brand has the best warranty in your opinion? I am thinking of Chamberlain or Genie. I think Genie gives lifetime warranty on motor and belt.

@@stnln2180 I had a terrific Liftmaster operator in my previous home. It had a battery backup and was quiet and quick. I recently acquired a new home with a Sommer operator and an outside remote keypad. The remote keypad has never worked, the distributor shipped a new one, and it refuses to connect. Worst of all, three companies I tried to hire to install it essentially laughed at me, citing previous experience with the company. I'll be looking to replace this system with a Liftmaster system shortly.

    Thank-You!
What idiot decided you needed to cycle the door twice after hitting 'reset'? It is not like you are likely to accidentally hit reset since it sits out of place. Besides, what would be the harm if you did accidentally reset the system. Dumb design.
