I am still trying to find a crash at Knoxville that I saw on VHS when I was a kid. A white car slides up out of turn two, 99% completes the slide job but his rear bumper just catches the front bumper of the other car. He turned directly into the wall and then what was left got pummeled by cars coming out of two. It was nasty. I think the guy's name was Cliff Woodard, or Woodward. Something like that.

The driver that went over the fence told us, that ride was not nearly as hard as some others he had taken, when he went over the fence he hit the wires holding the signs in place and they slowed him down. If I remember correct the car was standing on end and it was hard to get out of but he was OK.
Jerry's my dad. That was one of the scariest things I have ever seen, but he just went to the ER, argued with the doctor (who was telling him that boxing is less dangerous) and went back to the hotel. Just needed some chiropractic work done. Absolutely amazing what all that safety gear does.
He walked away easily. In fact, I think the hardest crash he ever took was when he drove the Taggert 81 into the Knoxville wall. Nothing fancy, but it must've hurt like hell.
That was one of my earliest memories of watching racing... I was sitting on the backstretch and it ranks up there in the top 2 wrecks I've witnessed.... The other would be Bowyer and Mock....

@1970Dust I saw JR Jr hit the fence at Knoxville just like Dobmeier did and I thought it killed him.
