Not everyone in the comments hating mini twists😭 I had a good experience with twists. I've been wearing my hair consistently in twists for two years and the length retention has been crazy. Ive been scared of braids but i decided to try it and girls my hair has never grown this long b4😭😭😭 my hair grew from 10 inches to 18 in no time🎉🎉 , the braids allow me leave my hair alone and i can wash them, am so glad i decided to get rid of my fear for braids😅
I hear you loud and clear! BRAIDS are everything and more. 🥰❤️ Thank you for sharing your story, it’s so priceless to know that we have similar experiences and when we stay away from twists, we’re not crazy. Braids have also totally changed the game for me! Well done hun, you did that!!! ❤️💃🏽🔥👏🏾
Braids without extensions have always been THAT girl, in my experience! When my mom didn’t know what to do with my hair she would always just braid it and I've had amazing hair growth because of it. I've tried twists( thank god i did my research first ) but i'm not a fan😢 i had them for less than 2 weeks because my ends were starting to loc ( i hadn't even washed them ).
Thank you for sharing your experience, you just made me love braids even more 🥰 💃🏽 I also love that you researched before you did your twists, unlike some of us lol. I can only imagine how beautiful your hair is, it sounds like you’re treating it so well 🫶🏽
What a helpful video! I also had the same issues with twists, especially mini twists. I prefer the medium and larger twists for this reason. Thank you for your help! 😄💖😄💖🙏🏾💖🙏🏾💖
Thank you hun, it’s so important to be aware so that you can avoid certain mistakes. Well done for adjusting along the way and doing what works best for you, you’re doing amazing! ❤️🥰
Yes true, but it’s also about technique. I also wash my hair is twists but I keep them very loose and not all the way twisted - something I didn’t do in the beginning that led to a disaster
I hear you hun, I hope you’re also paying attention to your ends ❤️🫶🏽 If it works well for you, no one can argue with you. It’s always good when something is working, well done 👏🏾💃🏽
Yeah I wore twists all summer to deal with the heat and my hair grew a ton and retained all the length! I also braid 1-2 inches from the root as well. I wear them two weeks before I wash and retwist them and keep it rolling. In those two weeks I keep them nice and moisturized.
@@marajones1828 exactly what I do. Bonus for me is that Because it's braided at the root ? When I need a wash the roots remain intact , they dont unravel at all. It remains intact for a nice re-twist of ONLY THE TWISTED lenth of hair works so nice for me. Braids are nice too but time consuming for me to handle as my hair has grown longer
Each experience is different. what we dont understand is, it's not because something have worked for somebody that it will OBLIGATORY work for you. try your own. make your experience, and see the results. for my part, the best hair styles I experienced hair retention with are twits and braids (with extension). but my favorite from far still be twists. I dont have thick hair, so it's easy for me to detangle hair even after washing them in twists. and a little tip, when you detangle your twists, make sure they are moisturized and use a bit of oil on your fingers during the process. hope this helps. Note : sorry for all the mistakes in my English, I m Congolese, so French native speaker. 🙂🥰
Your English is so much better than my French lol 😂 Please don’t apologise 🫶🏽 I hear you but when something doesn’t work it’s important to know why and if something works it’s important to find out why it worked. I love that you know that twists work best for you and even why you continue to do the style. ❤️ Thank you so much for the helpful tip to those that still want to try twists 🙏🏾
Protective styling with added hair does a disservice to our hair. My hair was extremely dry and could never be properly and throughly moisturized when hidden in braids and Marley twists. Our hair does need the outside elements (example sunlight, Vitamin D) to a certain extent. Anything you overdue will have harmful effects.
I agree with you for sure. Protective styles should make it easier to take care of our natural hair, it’s a disaster when we can’t get to our hair and scalp when it’s in certain styles. A lot of these extensions and styles don’t prioritise hair health 🤷🏽♀️
i think it’s about finding your cadence yazi, i know that 2 weeks is the perfect time to retwist & i was co-washing, so washing my hair 2-3 times a week in twists (for two years), but if i’ve learnt anything, 4c is different, what my 4coils&zigzags can do is different from what others’ 4coils can do
Thanks for sharing hun, I hope people take notes for their twisting journeys. ❤️ You’re not the first to say that 4c has its diversity and it’s really got me thinking 🤔 this might be an actual thing
😂😂i had my locks for a month, took them out yesterday and i must say there s growth i am happy Someone gave me a tip to spray them with water mixed with coconut oil everyday
I like even more after reading your comment ☺️ I thought I was crazy too and even thought my hair is difficult but nope it was the nature of the twists. I agree, braids are the best! Hands down 🫶🏽❤️🔥🥰
I think it’s important to understand what “protective” means for your own head of hair. For me, I’ve discovered two strand twists are great for about 10-14 days and then my hair requires detangling to prevent locs. For me, any style with hair added is a BREAK for me, but not necessarily protective since regular cleansing, moisture, and conditioning is what is needed for my hair to thrive.
I couldn’t agree more. Preach ma’am!!! ☺️👏🏾 The work that twists require is not for me personally, it’s too much manipulation but I can’t argue if you’ve found ways that work for you ❤️
OMG yes somebody had to say it LOL. Twists (especially mini twists) do not work for me. They look great, but issa no for me. If I do twists, I do really chunky twists and retwist them every few days to get out the shed hair. If your have fine hair, mini twists will just cause tangles (in my opinion). And I never wash my hair in twists.
If more people saw your comment, there would be more peace and harmony in the world lol 🥹🌍❤️💃🏽👏🏾 We have experienced so much and I’m so happy that we’re in a place where we know so much. I couldn’t agree more with you 🔥👌🏾🫶🏽👏🏾
I have fine 4B hair and it hates twists. I always have to cut the ends off when I twist and it breaks a lot when I unravel them. Anything that involves contortion of the strands it hates... including spirals. The only thing my hair can stand are braids because they don't involve any movement that forces the individual strands to change their rotational direction.
How do you take them down for them to break? That shouldn't be happening unless your hair is extremely dry. I would recommend taking them down with oil or a conditioner.
Never wash your hair with twist. Also shrinkage is part of our hair. If you want them to have length you have to band them. That helps to keep your length.
Hi, sis 🌷 I love this video! I love your content! You are right; our ancestors are our icons, our teachers and the best to have done it. ☀🤎🌹 This rings true for other industries outside of haircare; such as architecture, diet, town planning, and education that we must learn from and modernise to meet our needs today. Keep the valuable content coming, Zinhle! Today's and tomorrow's women are watching.
I couldn’t agree more, it’s so encouraging when I meet people that reallllllllly get the heart of where I’m coming from! You are my kind of people Khanyisile. ❤️ Thank you for being such a blessing. I hope more people will see your words and be able to connect the dots 🥹🔥
Twist never worked for me they either lock or unreveal themselves I found myself working overtime to over manipulating my hair when I was try to actually not over manipulate it.....mini braids worked well for me.....I'd rebraid every after 8 weeks and I have to be very patient when I do then after on the 4 month I'd take them down leave my hair out for a month then do new parts and do the same process again....by doing so it was less stressful dealing with my hair and I always know what do with it and I started noticing the thickness and growth in my hair
I still love twists, but I don't wash in them any more. And because I don't wash in them, I no longer do mini-twists because the install is too long for me to then take them out in 2 weeks for hair washing. Even with braided roots, I still end up with mats along the whole length. Wash and 'fro and mini twists are the two styles that have made me cry. I LOVE flat twists, but can't do them myself and it ends up not being cost effective. Threading hurts my wrist and I can't make them wearable-neat. Cornrows eat my hairline and makes my scalp itch for some reason.
Honestly I would try mini braids. If they look to sparse style them, in a pony, half up half down, curled, something. Can't help you with the wrist part but my mom didn't African thread like most of these TH-camrs, she did it on every single part of the hair, till it wasn't even visible and then she put it into a pattern, and sowed the end, which made it really pretty, it's a common style in my country. But as for me, most days I just do medium sized twists on my head and wear it into a pony and 2 days later I do a twist out and let it become a fro throughout the week. Some people even wear twist outs for 2 weeks if they have really good hold. I still do mini twists because my scalp can't stand not being washed after 2 weeks anyway.
Thank you for sharing hun ❤️ I love what you explained about your mom’s African threading, it makes me want to do it again. 🥰 Personally I wouldn’t be able to do your routine but to the people that are committed to their twists…respect 🫡 As long as your hair is happy 🫶🏽
I appreciate your perspective a lot because I have also struggled with twists. My hear often breaks a lot during take down because of all the tangles and it honestly can be quite frustrating. I’m planning on giving braids a try to see how my hair responds.
When I tell you the difference is out of this world 🌍 You’re going to fall in love with braids and I can’t wait for you to see the results. Protective hairstyles should prevent major tangles, not create them.
My hair loves twist its growing however it does not like small twist. Medium works best for me. I tried washing my hair in twist...MISTAKE!! 😢 my hair does better when i wash it in sections. So truth be told everyone' hair is different Thanks for the info❤
I hear you hun, everyone’s hair is different but there are similarities. When we share more about these similarities, we actually learn so much from each other 🥰❤️ Just reading about your experience is priceless, thank you…such a helpful reminder that the sizes also matter 🫶🏽
Lol oh that’s so true - the time and energy only to get shrinkage of a lifetime. I agree with you, loose twists ;aka temporary locs sometimes) are a better option for sure! ❤️🥰
I’m just different I guess. I’ve worn twists for about 15 years and my hair never got past my boobs in the front. I started wearing mini braids this year and now it’s finally shot past the nip 😂 I’m retaining my length and my hair does not tangle up the way it does with twists
I wish I could frame this comment so the world could see it lol 👏🏾 When I tell people about braids, I’m telling them about the love of my life!!! I am beyond proud of you for giving mini braids a try, for hair like ours - there’s actually nothing better! ❤️🫶🏽💃🏽
I enjoy twists and wear for 2 weeks. As a person with 4c hair l always undo my twists before washing. Like you l tried washing with twist once and never again.
I hope more people consider trying out your method, if they still want to wear their twists. That’s such a clever way to avoid a disaster. Well done hun! 🥰👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Seems like most problems start when you wash the hair in twists😢. I had the same problem. Now the longest I keep twists is 2 weeks and I don't wash it🙅🏾♀️
Yes, I totally agree. As people that have the kinkiest hair on the planet, we don’t talk about it enough. It’s beautiful but it’s not sustainable. I love that you’re aware of this and you’ve made it work for you hun ❤️🫶🏽
*That's why when AfrikanHairgod said Africans have a different hair type which is more Coily and resilient from African Americans, they want to chew his head but I am a living example. I have mixed texture and if I like let it be a twist or braid but my hair will still frizz especially since I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city. I don't bother myself again.*
Now that my hair is long im suddenly afraid of getting cornrows and been gravitating towards twists. I think its just the fact that it truly is easier to actually take care of the hair while in twists. But I'm seriously considering the threading!
I think twists are one of the hardest styles to maintain, so if you love your twists don’t be scared to experiment with other styles, you’ll be just fine. Just don’t forget to do some research before 🫶🏽❤️
Listennn! Twists have done me dirty Every. Single. Time! I've tried both mini and medium twists, but my hair said no ma'am each time. They're just not for me, so now I just stick to braids.
I do wash my hair in twist but i pre po, i dont twist to the very end. I spot check for matting, i use alo of conditioner and less shampoo. Shampoo drys out hair so much it cause matting. I also water ribce my hair and cowash frequently. I stretch the twist right after washing them. You have to stretch the twist it prevents matting as well. So its alot to twists. And braids too.
Whooo…respect! 🫡 I don’t think I could go back because of my past experience especially because braids are easier to maintain 🤷🏽♀️ but your commitment is amazing! 🫶🏽
I love my twist! You just have to have a patient process and routine. A huge mistake that a lot of people with 4C hair make is thinking they can wash their mini twist without redoing them. If you just wash and go they’re guaranteed to start locking up. After each of my washes I redo them one by one, which calls for detangling and moisturizing again of course and therefore my hair never has a chance to lock up. Yes, you can twist your hair all the way down especially to seal in the moisture on the ends which is the driest part of the hair. Just be careful and patient with each twist during take down. A nice detangling leave in conditioner and a fine point rat tooth comb helps prevent knots at the end and shedding, which allows you to retain length. There’s always going to be some form of shedding but with proper take down, detangling and patience, it can be kept at a minimal. My hair is it’s healthiest, grows the fastest, and longest in mini twist. I hope you give them another try! ❤
Thank you for this hun ❤️ I hope the people that still want to try twists read this 🙌🏾 We appreciate that you took the time share on your experience and your helpful tips. 💃🏽
I wear twists for 2 weeks at a time. Haven't had issues with them locking. In fact, when I wanted to loc my hair, I put my hair in twists and it took a really long time for my hair to lock. BUT....I agree with you that hair texture matters. Some can, some probably shouldn't.
Hey hun, did you ever wash your hair in the twists? That where the locking started for me and I know when you have starter locs it’s important to incorporate a lot of water. Either way, you’re right I think texture played a huge role and I’m glad that twists work for you 🫶🏽☺️
@@zinhle.africawhen I wanted my hair to loc I would wash my mini twists and they would unravel, the water definitely helped to loc them but it took months, which was frustrating cause that's not the result I wanted. I wash my hair in twists now to manage my wash days.
When I wear twists, I try not to wash them in the twists if I can help it. Since I wear them on a two week cycle, it will usually wear them as a twist-out a day or two before I wanna wash. I tried washing them in twists before and my hair did not like that at all. Felt like it wanted to loc lol. So I enjoy a cute twist out before I wash it and that also allows me to detangle and get any shed hair out if I want too.
Haaaa my twist unraveled the one time I did mini twists in my whole head😂😂I was confused. The last time I took my minibraids out I was putting them in mini twists they were giving very healthy hair and I washed them without unraveling ❤❤. I was so proud of them but the ptsd said nooooo😅
Sorry about that hun, I’m sure it was just the tension that needed to be tighter in the actual twist / your hair type. Either way it seems your hair might actually love twists 👏🏾❤️
I don’t wash my hair when I have African threads on. I usually leave it for a month or 5 weeks then I undo to wash. Gosh, my hair becomes so soft and it’s the very style that helped me retain more length. Twists also helped but not as much as the African threading. I can recommend the Yoruba style ( Didi ) as well, it gave my hair the volume I want
My hair gets matted so fast with individual twists/or braids when they're small. I always ask myself is it worth the take down Keep in mind i have high hair density and medium to thick hair strands.
Hey hun, I think matting becomes less of a problem when you’re not neglecting your hair. Try these hairstyles but always have a consistent moisturising routine, it might just transform your perspective
Twists (mini twists) have never grown my hair. The only time I had long strong hair was when I was a straight natural as our school uniform and also freeform locs, I just combed them out every 5 months. Of course that tells you my hair doesn't loc easily. However, I have extremely high porosity hair. Twists are great to put your hair away but you can't or shouldn't wash your hair in them unless you have low porosity hair. I've tried plats, threading, braids and all the rest. I still stick to twists on blown out hair for 4 weeks at a time
Hey hun, I love that you have a style and routine that works for you ❤️👌🏾 However I have low porosity hair and washing in twists was still a disaster. Twists can be quite tricky, in my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
Thank you for sharing, even if we might not have the same routines and experiences, there is so much value in these conversations ❤️🙏🏾 I appreciate you taking the time to share ☺️💃🏽
I don't like braids cause i have fine hair and medium density plus my hair is only collarbone length so it makes my hair look sparse😭 . I have been doing mini/small twists for a couple of months and have grown to love the style and have gotten better at twisting so that they don't unravel. I think it helps that i twist on fully detangled, moisturized, stretched hair , slightly damp but not wet . I did try to wash it once and yeah the locing is real😂 so I'm now trying to find out how long i can keep them in without my hair getting too dry and still being moisturized. Maybe I'll try braids again when i can wear a scarf over them
I hear you and think you so much for sharing hun ❤️🥹 Maybe try chunky braids for that extra volume 🤷🏽♀️ Either way over time the new growth will come in and thicken the base of the braids. Sometimes it comes down to personal preference and what speaks to your style. All the best hun, I hope you find that sweet spot very soon and your hair thrives in the protective hairstyle that you choose 🥰💃🏽
I think the reason why you had an issue with the twists is because you did them small. I don't think you would have had any of those issue or some of those issues if the twists were medium to jumbo size.
I do mini twists most of the time and never had a issue with. you must adopt some techniques before you take them out, like moisturize them before, use oil on your fingers when detangling... those little things can make a big difference.
Well, I know naptural85 had a video more than a decade ago about how she washes her hair and twists. Or was that how she conditions it in the shower? Either way I would check out her videos on the subject.
The kinkier your hair, the more frizz is a part of the characteristics of your hair. There is no style that will not have frizz and if you ever do a style that eliminates it completely then it’s probably doing more damage to the hair than helping it. The way you’re thinking about it is wrong, it’s not a negative thing for our hair as much as it can be for straighter, curlier hair types. There’s nothing wrong with your mixed textures, they aren’t supposed be tamed down anyways 🫶🏽
Yep mini twists were cute but the hair loss was crazy during the take down - and it was because of all the coils and kinks. The shrinkage after just moisturising was crazy and contributed to knots and matting. I will never again😂
Of course wash your hat hair with twist that been twisted up for weeks your hair is going to lock . When it get wet . Like you said you have to know how your hair work and what it like.so don’t knock it until you do what is best for your hair. Try untwist your hair before washing it. To me twist after three weeks works good . And take it out before shampoos. That my method...
This is my method too. I wear my hair in twist for two week then unravel them and wear a twist out for a week. I wash my hair again after those 3 weeks. Each month a switch between a deep conditioner or a treatment, and wash days become much easier.
The difference is they are African American/Caribbean descent- I like myself (we are have mixed heritage- maybe 3-5 generations back) that's that's the BIG DIFFERENCE. Yes, we all of African descent but we must remember for 4c hair has ranges. I never WASH my twists but clean yje scalp only. 4c/4d-5 type benefit from midi braids, cornrows (LOOSE) and or wear twists (BIGGER ONES) for a maximum of 3.5-4 weeks, THREADING AT NIGHT- stay way from water-based products as this encourages the hair to FUSE and thus encourages MATTING AKA LOCKING.
I am fully African, 4B hair with a clear curl pattern to it (not to be confused with 4A), fine strands, and my hair hates twists. It is not about having 4C or being racially mixed. It's about having fine delicate strands that can't stand contortion.
I hear you but every time we categorise ourselves as black / African people it can be problematic because that understanding cannot limit us. I agree that kinkier hair types benefit more from certain hairstyles than other curlier, wavier hair types. However it’s all a a very broad guide / generalisation , the truth is that there are many contributing factors that make our hair what it is. We can have shared experiences but at the end of the day, every single head of hair is different 🫶🏽
I’m so sorry! 🥺 You aren’t alone, it was so heartbreaking when I went through it as well but now we know better. I know braids would never, especially when they stay moisturised
I copied my son, he wears mini twist, done by me for about a month. I did the same and hated it instantly, so i wore a wig😢 I almost lost all my hair, but it doesn't happen to my son. He doesn't detangle, wear a bonnet, nor refresh them, and his hair is growing and thickened up😂😂😂 Why did my hair betray me lol
The way that the male species can just thrive doing the bare minimum of the bare minimum 😂 and look like they’ve been kissed by God every morning lol it’s insane. I’m sorry hun, he still has a mom that made his hair journey a breeze and he’s thriving so a win is a win! 🏆 He’s blessed to have you
to be honest, twists are nit fir everyone vele, I also noticed that they don't really help me that much in growing my hair so I decided to stick with the braids.❤❤❤❤❤
🥺 Sorry hun but the good news is that once we can do hairstyles that protect those ends and we also moisturise regularly, the hair will start to recover beautifully 🥹❤️🙏🏾
Yoh Yoh Yoh... FRIEND! "Mini" twists and that washing thing with the way my hair is set up?!? Let's just say I learnt a few things: 1) mini twists ❌ small twist ✅ 2) braid the roots till halfway THEN twist 3) start with 2-3 weeks for long term twists then redo and extend weekly to figure out when YOUR hair starts locking because those 2-3 month shenanigans had me undoing mini locs in a panic from 9 to 5 😭
Not everyone in the comments hating mini twists😭

I have found my people😭!! I used to feel inferior for preferring braids to twists. Very valid red flags sis!. Braids all the way. Neater, retains moisture better, wayyy less shrinkage and my favourite: lasts longer 😊
I like the look and volumevwith twists better though. And you can braid half an inch first and then twist to avoid locking
Absolutely 🫶🏽❤️💃🏽
Yes so true but remember you can also braid loosely as well 🤷🏽♀️
washing your hair in twists when you have 4c hair is immediate locs.
I totally agree!!! The shrinkage and matting just transforms the twists into locs for sure 😅
Facts! IYKYK
Just re twist the hair
I can wash my 4c hair in mini twist but not to let them stay for months or do tiniest twist 😂😂😂😂😂😂
There is a method to get it not to lock but I haven't mastered that yet, but guys ...just redo your dang twists.
I love twists. They have grown my hair for sure. But I guess it's a matter of different strokes for different folks at the end of the day.
Of course 🥹 It may have not worked for me but I’m so happy when we each find what works for us ❤️ Keep going gorgeous! 🥰💃🏽
100000% agree. 4c hair. What I've found to work is to braid the top and then twist down. Easier to decrease shrinkage.
So many people swear by this 🤞🏾 Thanks for sharing hun ❤️

What a helpful video! I also had the same issues with twists, especially mini twists. I prefer the medium and larger twists for this reason. Thank you for your help! 😄💖😄💖🙏🏾💖🙏🏾💖
Thank you hun, it’s so important to be aware so that you can avoid certain mistakes. Well done for adjusting along the way and doing what works best for you, you’re doing amazing! ❤️🥰
People have different hair textures. Me i wash my hair in teists and its what works for me and makes my wash day very easy....
Yes true, but it’s also about technique. I also wash my hair is twists but I keep them very loose and not all the way twisted - something I didn’t do in the beginning that led to a disaster
I understand the stress behind twists.
For then to work, which has worked for me is braiding an inch or 2 from the roots then twist .

Your English is so much better than my French lol 😂 Please don’t apologise 🫶🏽
I hear you but when something doesn’t work it’s important to know why and if something works it’s important to find out why it worked.
I love that you know that twists work best for you and even why you continue to do the style. ❤️ Thank you so much for the helpful tip to those that still want to try twists 🙏🏾
0:56 I LOVE Indigenous strandz!! And I cannot do the twists because it always breaks my hair off. So I’m officially done with them!
Same, love her but we all have to find what works for us, there’s no short cut to that trial and error stage
@zinhle.africa I agree 🌸
i think it’s about finding your cadence yazi, i know that 2 weeks is the perfect time to retwist & i was co-washing, so washing my hair 2-3 times a week in twists (for two years), but if i’ve learnt anything, 4c is different, what my 4coils&zigzags can do is different from what others’ 4coils can do
Thanks for sharing hun, I hope people take notes for their twisting journeys. ❤️ You’re not the first to say that 4c has its diversity and it’s really got me thinking 🤔 this might be an actual thing
😂😂i had my locks for a month, took them out yesterday and i must say there s growth i am happy
Someone gave me a tip to spray them with water mixed with coconut oil everyday
Lol “I had my locks for a month” 😂 As long as it doesn’t hurt the hair more than it helps it. Keep going hun 🫶🏽 but please pay close attention
I never thought I would find people who understands that braids a re better 😭😭because those things locs even when I had extentions 😭😭
Lol I hear you hun, the way that our hair shrinks is on another level 😅
I like you a lot. I thought I was crazy for loving braids over twists. Twists are hard to maintain for me and unplaiting them is a nightmare
I couldn’t agree more with you 🔥👌🏾🫶🏽👏🏾
Zinhle you owe us your 2/3month cornrow unraveling video😭😭, literally been excited to see how much length you were able to retain🥹
Hey hun, apologies I got delayed but iyeza I’m pushing for tomorrow. I just couldn’t compromise on quality, it’s almost there. 🫶🏽
The way I thought I was an anomaly because I experienced the same thing with mini twists 😭😭😭
Same here and I felt like that for years. The comment section actually shocked me, in the best way 🥹❤️
I have fine 4B hair and it hates twists. I always have to cut the ends off when I twist and it breaks a lot when I unravel them. Anything that involves contortion of the strands it hates... including spirals. The only thing my hair can stand are braids because they don't involve any movement that forces the individual strands to change their rotational direction.
It's the same for me.
I feel it’s cause you don’t know how to take them down that’s why it doesn’t work for you.
How do you take them down for them to break? That shouldn't be happening unless your hair is extremely dry. I would recommend taking them down with oil or a conditioner.
Exactly! I love how you described it. Braids really maintain the integrity of the hair. 👌🏾❤️
No hun, shrinkage can actually be dangerous under certain conditions
TH-cam need to have an audio option in the comments cuz I have a lot to say 😅 twist is a no for me my hair hates it
Lol I would love that audio option 😂❤️🥰I couldn’t agree more, twists aren’t worth it for me as well 😅
African threading is the best I do it soon after I wash my hair and leave it for about a few days then I go on with cornrows or mini braids
I can only confirm. It is the best method to stretch hair without heat.
@@GabomaToon exactly
So true. It’s the reason why I could reduce my blow drying to only once a year! ❤️ It’s so helpful for stretch 💃🏽
I totally agree ❤️🥰🫶🏽
oooo so we all learned about twists the hard way 😂 i like twists, but i will never wash my hair in twists ever again
Lol same here 😅😂 Once was enough
Never wash your hair with twist. Also shrinkage is part of our hair. If you want them to have length you have to band them. That helps to keep your length.
I hear you, you’re right but I didn’t know that back then. This is why I prefer braids because I don’t have to worry about such
Hi, sis 🌷 I love this video!

Mini braids is the best for 4c hair
I couldn’t agree more ❤️
Twist never worked for me they either lock or unreveal themselves I found myself working overtime to over manipulating my hair when I was try to actually not over manipulate it.....mini braids worked well for me.....I'd rebraid every after 8 weeks and I have to be very patient when I do then after on the 4 month I'd take them down leave my hair out for a month then do new parts and do the same process again....by doing so it was less stressful dealing with my hair and I always know what do with it and I started noticing the thickness and growth in my hair
I absolutely love your methods and routine, well done hun ❤️ You’re doing amazing! 👏🏾💃🏽
Thanks for the info sis, was about to twist my hair, I will stick to cornrows
Always a pleasure hun ❤️ Please also try braids if you haven’t before 🫶🏽💃🏽
I still love twists, but I don't wash in them any more.
I hear you hun, I highly recommend medium or even mini braids they are amazing ❤️🥰
@rutholujobi4722 Your life is about to change for the better! 🥰💕😂
Thank you both! You’ve made me excited to try a new method, and hopefully, my wash days will stop being so stressful!😊
HAWIAN SILKY 14-N-1 LEAVE IN SPRAY IN WILL SAVE YOUR TWIST IT MAKES YOUR HAIR SO MANAGEABLE !😍😍
Thank you for the recommendation hun, for those that are still willing to try twists. ❤️🫶🏽
My hair loves twist its growing however it does not like small twist.
Medium works best for me.
I tried washing my hair in twist...MISTAKE!! 😢 my hair does better when i wash it in sections. So truth be told everyone' hair is different
Thanks for the info❤
I hear you hun, everyone’s hair is different but there are similarities. When we share more about these similarities, we actually learn so much from each other 🥰❤️ Just reading about your experience is priceless, thank you…such a helpful reminder that the sizes also matter 🫶🏽
Well I learnt about loose twists and I am never going back to regular twists and gosh I can't believe actually do minitwists 😂the energy
Lol oh that’s so true - the time and energy only to get shrinkage of a lifetime.
I agree with you, loose twists ;aka temporary locs sometimes) are a better option for sure! ❤️🥰
I have come to love braids as well especially for long term styling, they give me the best resuls😊
Absolutely, they really are unmatched ❤️🙌🏾
Thank you for sharing, I also had a bad experience with twist my hair got locked, but now I will know what to do. ❤
Yes hun, they require a lot to work but there’s so many other styles to try if you don’t want to risk it 🫶🏽
I’m just different I guess.
@christinam81. Yes! You’re about to double your growth in half the time with braids! 🥰
Mini twist are a no for my hair. But I have medium twist in now so hopefully this works out
A lot of people prefer medium over mini twists, so I hope it works out for you. All the best 🤞🏾❤️
Now the longest I keep twists is 2 weeks and I don't wash it🙅🏾♀️
Lucky for you 😅my hair doesn't even last that long in twists 😂😂
Yes, I totally agree. As people that have the kinkiest hair on the planet, we don’t talk about it enough. It’s beautiful but it’s not sustainable. I love that you’re aware of this and you’ve made it work for you hun ❤️🫶🏽
@@ThakaSjula🤣🤣🤣 i start with braids at the roots then twist down. Castor oil has also been a huge game changer for me
*That's why when AfrikanHairgod said Africans have a different hair type which is more Coily and resilient from African Americans, they want to chew his head but I am a living example. I have mixed texture and if I like let it be a twist or braid but my hair will still frizz especially since I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city. I don't bother myself again.*
I love your head wrap!
Thank you hun, I’m working on making headwrap tutorials, stay tuned ❤️🫶🏽
Sis, thanks a lot for warning us💝I love your laugh😂😍Hugs from Maput😍
I hear you, it’s such a priceless experience with braids - it’s low maintenance and it actually gives amazing results ❤️🔥👏🏾🥰💃🏽
Do you ladies also keep up with your trims? Because if you have loads of split ends…it won’t bode well!
Spoke truth & facts! Braids is the GOAT for my natural hair as well. I love this hairwrap, where did you get it from?
Thank you hun, I’ll be making a full detailed headwrap tutorial including this one soon. ❤️
I thought I was the only one. Twist don’t work for me.
Nope, we are in this together ❤️ I also thought I was the only one 🤷🏽♀️
Baby you probably just saved my hair 🤣
Lol 😅 If you still want to risk it all at least do your research because some styles can traumatise you 😂
@@zinhle.africaand I have mini twist right now am going to change them to mini braid 😂😂
I have sooooo much tension on my scalp with cornrows and I love them so much
Please try to loosen the tension next time you get them done. Tension can be so harmful 🫶🏽
Ooooooo you need to prepare your twists before you add water.....
I coconut oil, okra detangle....deep conditioner before I add water and shampoo
Hmm I hear you but that isn’t required for braids. It seems like twists are high maintenance and high risk compared to other protective styles
the way you went "eish" for twists😂😂😂
I get it because my hair looks a mess in twists, my go to style is braids
Lol I can’t even pretend, braids are the best!!!!! 10/10 👌🏾🥹❤️🥰💃🏽🔥 I agree with you
Never wash your hair in twists 😂😂 learnt the hard way I almost ended up with locs
Yohh, worst experience ever 😢😅😂
Lol to us who almost started our loc journeys 🥂😂😂😂 We have been through it! 😅
Too much! 😅 so glad we survived 😂😂😂
Me too!
@@zinhle.africaI'm thinking about microlocs though 😅
If you have fine natural hair, I would never advise mini twists. You end up losing more hair during takedown.
Thank you for this! ❤️ I have course hair but even I lost a lot of hair in the takedown so, it can be highly risky for everyone 😬
I literally had the same experiences lol... Haven't done them again since.
Same here - never again 🫣😂
I don’t wash my hair when I have African threads on. I usually leave it for a month or 5 weeks then I undo to wash. Gosh, my hair becomes so soft and it’s the very style that helped me retain more length. Twists also helped but not as much as the African threading.
I can recommend the Yoruba style ( Didi ) as well, it gave my hair the volume I want
Thank you for this hun, this is so helpful. You’re a star!!! ⭐️ ❤️🙏🏾
My hair gets matted so fast with individual twists/or braids when they're small. I always ask myself is it worth the take down
Keep in mind i have high hair density and medium to thick hair strands.
Hey hun, I think matting becomes less of a problem when you’re not neglecting your hair. Try these hairstyles but always have a consistent moisturising routine, it might just transform your perspective
Hayi for the 4c girls twists long term do nothing but tangle n loc.
Exactly what I’m saying!!! 🤷🏽♀️ I really thought I was the only one
“ also known as 5A” Hahahah and you said that with a straight face.
I’m team cornrows and braids. Twists are for when I’ve removed my braids....
Lol 😂 we’ve been through it! Let me tell you something…IM ON YOUR TEAM and I’m not leaving 🔥💃🏽❤️🥰
I had twists once and once only because yoh!
I feel your pain
I hear you, nothing can ever convince me to go back shem 😅🙌🏾
Yoh same 🫣
Twists (mini twists) have never grown my hair.
I still stick to twists on blown out hair for 4 weeks at a time
Hey hun, I love that you have a style and routine that works for you ❤️👌🏾
However I have low porosity hair and washing in twists was still a disaster.
I also can’t with twists, my hair get matted, unraveling is a nightmare. I’m happy with cornrows.
The twist experience can be so traumatic hey, but the important thing is to know what works well for your hair, well done hun! ❤️
For me its wash and go. It definitely does not work for me and my hair ends up all matted up😢
Same here hun, unfortunately we have to try different things until we find what works the best. 🫶🏽
Hii, how do you keep your ends tucked in, when doing braids with your natural hair ❤
I do it with extensions but I’ll be showing you in detail when I install my braids very soon. 🫶🏽
Yes I hear you but remember when you do long term protective styles it’s best to make them small or medium
Yes of course I did that but twists require a lot more than the bare minimum at times
Yeah twisting the ends is a nightmare! period. hahaha 3:42
I found out the hard way 😅😭
Well, I know naptural85 had a video more than a decade ago about how she washes her hair and twists. Or was that how she conditions it in the shower? Either way I would check out her videos on the subject.
Thank you for this hun ❤️ Just remember her curl pattern is kinky but definitely looser than 4c hair, so our experiences could differ
*My hair shrinks up to 90-95%, Mixed Textures which if I braid or twist, it still turns frizzy so, I don't bother again*
Twists literally broke off my hair
I got soooo much tangles when taking down my hair and it doesn’t even last when your hair is still short
I’m so sorry hun 🥺 sometimes the style isn’t worth all havoc it causes and that’s okay. We know better now. 🫶🏽
Yep mini twists were cute but the hair loss was crazy during the take down - and it was because of all the coils and kinks. The shrinkage after just moisturising was crazy and contributed to knots and matting. I will never again😂
Oh I hear you loud and clear! 😅 You are not alone hey, so many of us are twist survivors lol 😂😂😂
My hair hates being in twist. My hair loves BRAIDS! Every time I take them down my damn hair from twist, it breaks off!
You are not alone. I just left a similar comment.
Same here, braids are unmatched ❤️🥰
Braids are everything for sure ❤️🥰❤️💃🏽
I liked twist but I had to keep redoing them which was very annoying every week it looked old I was tired of it lol
Yes, I hear you. It’s like it requires o much more work to maintain them than any other style 🫣🥺
Never wash your hair in twist. Never.
Especially small tight twists 🙌🏾
Instant dreadlocks 😂😂😂
💯 bad souvenir 🤣
5A hair crazee😂😂
Lol I’m telling you…😅😂😂😂
Of course wash your hat hair with twist that been twisted up for weeks your hair is going to lock . When it get wet . Like you said you have to know how your hair work and what it like.so don’t knock it until you do what is best for your hair. Try untwist your hair before washing it. To me twist after three weeks works good . And take it out before shampoos. That my method...
As long as it works for you, that’s the most important thing ❤️ I hope your tips can help someone that still trying to perfect their twist routine 🫶🏽
This is my method too. I wear my hair in twist for two week then unravel them and wear a twist out for a week. I wash my hair again after those 3 weeks. Each month a switch between a deep conditioner or a treatment, and wash days become much easier.
Sana we have the same experience, I did not know what is wrong na 🤣. Shrinkage ke sana had me chockhold
Lol I get it..shrinkage can be dangerous when you don’t know it well enough 😅
This comment makes no sense. 😂😂😂😂. Imagine thinking someone’s hair being able to twist is because of the white in them😂😂😂. God abeg.
For real i hate to twist my hair it alway breaks ..especially washing with small twist
Yes 🥺 Medium or mini braids (no extensions) are definitely a better option, please try them out if you haven’t 🫶🏽
Twists have never worked for me. They ALWAYS unravel bc my hair doesn't hold them. Mini braids are better.
At the salon, they plat normally at the root and start twisting from a certain point, if you ever try again, you can implement this.
Maybe it’s about the tension, product or technique 🤔 I also agree about the braids - it’s a lot less complicated
Braid your twists ,while washing...thank me later❤
I think that’s actually a better option cause wow 😅
I did twists like a few months back and i have 4c hair. When i undid them yohh!!!the breakage was crazy. It hurt so bad even!

Why are you talking about the problems of my hair. Especially that end of the hair part 😢😢😢
🥺 Sorry hun but the good news is that once we can do hairstyles that protect those ends and we also moisturise regularly, the hair will start to recover beautifully 🥹❤️🙏🏾
7:21 🤣
😂😂😂
How long can on keep mini braids?
For as long as you want hun, as long as you’re maintaining them
Yoh Yoh Yoh... FRIEND! "Mini" twists and that washing thing with the way my hair is set up?!? Let's just say I learnt a few things:
1) mini twists ❌
small twist ✅
2) braid the roots till halfway THEN twist
3) start with 2-3 weeks for long term twists then redo and extend weekly to figure out when YOUR hair starts locking because those 2-3 month shenanigans had me undoing mini locs in a panic from 9 to 5 😭
For those that are still wanting to do twists…. I hope they take notes here, thank you for sharing this hun 🙏🏾❤️
Finally.
Let me use braids.
Twists aren't helping.
Please do hun, you’re going to love it 🥰 ❤️💃🏽
