      YES thats mercury. A dangerous metal that causes BIRTH DEFECTS when you’re exposed to it - like touching it.

    That's scary! It was Mercury! You can't leave it there. It needs to go into a special container. Call the health department.

    • @rationalbushcraft
      @rationalbushcraft ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Ya Someone needs to clean that up. There are special kits available for cleaning it. When I was a kid you could buy kids toys like puzzles and chemistry sets with mercury in them. Crazy world we lived in.

      Yes- Mercury! Hazmat needs to get that. It is hazardous for sure- even in small amounts according to the EPA.

    • @tomkirby3281
      @tomkirby3281 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed. Mercury is not something to mess around with. Don't fish for fish there. I don't know if it's still used in paper manufacturing, but it used to be.

    The paper mill would use a LOT of water in the making of the paper, so being on a river is beneficial. Also, the river flow would help steam operated machines used in making the paper. Some of the things you have pulled up seem like valve covers - like fire hydrants have. And, some of the fittings might have been able to help regulate the flow of the water used in the plant.

      All the old paper mills & even many of the newer ones use the water to cool the machines & to create electricity to run most of the factory.
      MBack in the days they used to float the trees to the paper mills. If it was built by river just like the old grain Mills. They used the power of the river to turn the the water wheel to grind the grain into flour. .

    Awesome finds today Tyler. That was mercury that was coming out of the end of that piece of metal. You had gloves on, so none of the chemicals would have touched your skin. You got alot of scrap metal out of the water today. You should carry an orange shop towel in your truck, so if you get an extra long pipe you can tie the towel to the pole once you have it in the back of your truck. Have a great day my friend ❤️🙂⚘️.

    Used to work in a small paper mill, only 60 tons a day production, we used to treat and discharge 250,000 gallons of water a day. That socket looking item is a pipe coupling with a plug on it. Those pipe pieces you pulled out look like parts from an old style fire system. For those long pieces invest in a cordless grinder or recip saw. That did look like mercury. A lot of old machinery used mercury switches. And finally that piece you thought was a bottle is apiece of steel turned on a lathe the holes are for centering the piece in the lathe. Most mills had there own machine shops. Stay safe

  • @paolobuffa6889
    @paolobuffa6889 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Glad to see you broke the piggy bank!
    Try to take care of the new trolley.
    And finally, please be careful; this time it was mercury (highly toxic and polluting), but someone could have thrown a detonator or an explosive into the river...
    Stay healthy.
    P.S. Maybe you keep something to show in the other restoration channel. You could be a good DIY archaeologist.
