The Leuvenumse Bos is a wooded nature reserve in the northern Veluwe south of Harderwijk and east of Ermelo. The Leuvenumse Bos is 837 hectares in size and is owned by Natuurmonumenten.

In the Harderwijker woods lies a large Vitens water catchment area. Groundwater has been pumped here for drinking water since 1895. The water tower from 1894 on the Galgenberg is a real eye-catcher. The tower has a height of 15.85 meters and a reservoir of 336 cubic meters. The drift sand area Beekhuizerzand is eye-catcher number two with its differences in height. Small visitors may prefer to choose the nature playground.

The Beekhuizerzand is a drifting sand area located on the North Veluwe near Harderwijk. It has a size of about 200 hectares and is managed by the municipality of Harderwijk. Before 1830, the Beekhuizerzand was part of a large drift sand area. In the period between about 1880 and 1930 this was planted with Scots pine on a large scale, mainly to prevent drifting. It was also put into use as a military training area and opened for recreation from 1963. In 2004, many of the flying pines were cut down and the top layer of soil was removed, turning it into a true drifting sand area where the drifting sand has become free again. The area is grazed by sheep.
The Beekhuizerzand is characterized by differences in altitude and is home to lichens and the sand lizard that are characteristic of this type of environment. Other species that were hoped to occur after the conversion because they are bound to this environment, such as dune pipit and nightjar, are unlikely to become established given their habitat requirements. Recreational interests and conservation interests appear to clash quite often, as a result of which consideration has been given to closing part of the area to recreation. The area is popular with runners, mountain bikers, photographers and cyclists.
