The fact this fight wasn't even part of the manga makes it even better. Even manga readers are getting such a show from this series. Its fantastic and getting to see Renjis true bankai and it's abilities is so cool, even for readers
In all fairness, Renji and Uryu have kinda been in the same boat since the Soul Society arc. They're both old rivals of Ichigo who are around the same power level. They both fought at the end of the Shinigami arc, they both fought together during the Arrancar arc, now they're fighting each other again after they received their divine powers.

Gimmjow attacked the Gift Ball because his Hollow form is that of a panther, so someone threw a ball in front of a cat and he leapt at it. This fight was Anime only so it was nice to see some more out of Renji's Bankai outside the Mask de Masculine fight. I love how they tied in his old Bankai into this fight by showing he really was only half releasing it before with the old name. When he did his final attack and that huge snake form came back only he could properly use it now with the Monkey arm.
I knew Renji was going to lose but I was so happy he put up a fight even against Uryu's vollstandig and managed to used bankai a second time while being basically out of energy.
