    Apologies for re-uploading this video, but I accidentally left in some personal details of the victim and I sincerely apologize for this.
    Sometimes I get the opportunity to stop scams, but this one was cutting it very fine.
    You'll see a variant of the refund scam and one victim that I managed to stop, but it was too late for someone else. I've passed as many details as I can to the victim and the Faridabad police.

    I was at Walmart, I saw some lady on mobility scooter trying to buy multiple $100 google play cards, I immediately stopped her and asked her why was she buying them, and she didnt answer so i asked if someone one phone was asking to buy all these then she said yes, I immediately told her that its a scam and dont buy them (meanwhile the guy was listening to me) and guess what she put the phone on speaker so i could hear the guy and the guy was telling her to tell me it was none of my business, I told her dont listen to him, he is scamming and so she hung up and she put the cards back on the shelf. I felt so good when i stopped her from getting scammer.

      I imagine it may be very difficult and tricky, but possible. Google or any corporation that bought[owns and created] the gift cards would need to become involved. • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Step with Stef But keep in mind, the man said the people already were holding his money ransom. If someone tells me that, I'm going to try to get them to call their bank or the police instead, but sometimes people are insistent on going through with something. And aside from contacting those things, if they say their bank account is being held random, I wouldn't know what else to do. So I too would probably go along with giving them the gift cards, because I'm not sure how else to help them. I'm learning more watching these videos, but it sucks when you're just the customer service person caught between "just doing your job" and feeling something might not be right but not sure how to really help someone in a case like this.
      Frankly though, a smartphone or a call to the bank would both be your best friends in this case. A smartphone to sign into your bank on another device (update the password to be safe! And indeed, as Jim said, use 2 step verification), and that way you can see the real balance. And calling the bank would help put a stop to everything and lock the account.

      @@Brigada91RealBriggy My grandparents actually were scammed a decade ago. It was through a phone scheme, where someone called them and claimed to be a doctor and that my dad had been in an accident. They ended up giving the scammers the equivalent of several hundred, or maybe a thousand dollars, I'm not sure. The money was supposed to be for treatment. But yeah, when faced with such a tragedy they panicked and didn't even think to call my dad's number. The scammers had done their homework and had all sorts of personal details, to make the story more believable.

I started crying, saying that my husband made the money in our relationship, not me, and that I refused to do anything until I spoke with him. Yeah it's making me angry how shameless these scammers are and how happy they are about taking people's money and using it like is well earned in fact all I wanna do during this video is to punch this person teeth aut and make him return all the money he stole and see how confident he is face to face about stealing people money like that.

    Thank you Jim, for rescuing people from these scammers! I won't swear, but I wish I had the level of knowledge, so I can stop them in their tracks. My husband fell for a scam (so-called stocks and shares). He did this without consulting me, then he kept asking my husband for thousands of pounds, then said ' remortgage your house'! Then, all of a sudden, he lost the money! My husband apologized, but the damage was done! Please be aware! £3,500 we lost!

    Hey Jim, on one hand I love you and hope you achieve more tackling down these scumbags, but then if you get large enough, with how much money is involved in these scams, I slightly fear for your safety. Take care out there.

    I have an Idea, let's put a sticker under Gift Cards shelf that says "If you've got a call from someone asking your to buy this, you're being scammed". Problem solved!

      Some cases it would be like this guy. They know they're getting scammed but need to get the money that they "lost"

    • @fluffyraeven874
      @fluffyraeven874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Sadly it would only solve one of the many ways they request "their" money to be sent back. It is a great idea. Let's take that a step further. Inform all companies who sell gift cards to put them behind a plastic case like they do with electronics or high price items that are small enough to be stolen and put the sign on the case and when the employee goes to unlock the case they should ask the customer if there is someone on the phone or someone who called them asking them to buy the cards. People will believe a store employee much quicker than they will a random caller.

    It's heartbreaking working the front desk of a grocery store sometimes. I see people who are most likely getting scammed and because of their pride they just get angry and throw obscenities my way. No matter how much my coworkers and I tell them "please reconsider what you are doing, this is most likely a scam," it doesn't work. I've seen quite a few older people who buy at least a thousand dollars in gift cards a week and say it's "none of your business who it's going to." I cannot go forward with stopping the transaction because it's not "good customer service." My coworkers and some of my managers justify " they're going to fall for it anyways, so why should we stop them?" I'm so glad that people like you are taking the initiative to help stop some of these scams.
