  • @cuptie71
    @cuptie71 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've broke 2 high E and 1 B string since installing locking tuners, could it be I'm over tightening the thumb wheel ?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, that could indeed be a factor. It needs to be firm, but not overly tightened. Remember that it's locking the string by pressing on it. Too much pressure on the same spot can result in breaking them almost like a cutter would do, especially smaller strings.

    • @cuptie71
      @cuptie71 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @nutella_drifter
    @nutella_drifter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great straightforward video, thanks for sharing. A question here, do you need to stretch fresh strings to make them stable tuned, just like with regular tuners?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +User Account It depends if you need them to be in tune right now (example: for a show the next day or for recording the same day). If you stretch them, they could have a shorter life (not in the sense that they will break, more in the sense that they will feel fresh and new for a shorter amount of time). So if you have the time and you just practice at home, let them stabilize themselves by tuning more frequently !

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +User Account And this concept also applies for regular tuners (I could be wrong, but that's what I felt after all these years of changing strings).

  • @Theincrediblespud

    Installed some on my acoustic. When I’m stretching out the G string, it breaks constantly when I’m using a string stretcher (which I’ve always been using with a lot of tension.
    Before locking I’ve been pulling it ridiculously tight. I mean not just lifting the string, but holding it with some grips pulling the string through and pulling it as tight as possible by using the tuning post as a fulcrum.
    Should I be putting it u see that much tension?
    I finish even with that much tension it does a full wrap around the post?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think you should apply that much tension. It is very common with locking tuners to not even get a full wrap around the post (at least that has been my experience).

    If I have first tuned my guitar to standard and now I want to tune it to drop. Do I need to make any adjustments afterwards or I simply tune it down? And also do I need to stretch the strings after restringing like in regular tuners?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I stretch the strings to have a more stable tuning faster afterwards. Also, you can tune to Drop D, no problem without any adjustments. I have never got any problem doing it.

    • @M1ck1970

      Monochrome Seasons thanks for your reply. I play mainly ambient type music with a lot volume swells etc, I have the strymon el capistan already which cover tape type delay, so I need something to go with it either analog or digital ?

      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am pairing my El Capistan with a Diamond Memory Lane Jr. since a long time and it does a fantastic job for volume swells ! I find that the tape echo of the Strymon and the analog voiced delays of the Memory Lane Jr. blend well together. :)

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be my first choice, but if you want something more affordable, I would go with the MXR Carbon Copy, which is the best bang for the buck for analog-voiced delays !

  • @steveblease

    I just don't see the need at all. If you put the strings on correctly why have this thing to deal with?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping
      @AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a lot faster to change a string this way, but the biggest advantage is that the tuning is a lot more stable. I have brought this guitar on an airplane for a tour, it has been brutally handled by airport employees, and when I took it out of the hard case, it was still perfectly in tune!
