  • Originally recorded May 26, 1984 in New York.
This was the only one that was annotated with a precise date, but I presume that the Aykroyd, Hudson, Moranis, and Ramis interviews were done the same day... unless Ms. Wygant intentionally wore the same outfit on different days so she could intercut the segments for some reason?
FYI, I tried a shorter, more Ghostbusters-centric cutdown of this, removing all of the discussion of the engagement, but it meant there would be a very noticeable jumpcut in the wrapup. So I went back and put those comments back in.
Btw, it's now almost 34 years since this was recorded, and to the best of my knowledge Sigourney is still married to Jim Simpson.

I love her, she's so classy and genuine. I remember Bill Paxton fondly recalling working with her on Aliens during the commentary.

I love that as an English guy sort of expect a woman in this era of her ‘look’ in the south of US to be more I dunno.. puritanical? But she’s not, she’s so so lovely and welcoming. And you can tell just like interviewing she doesn’t just love film - she GETS movies. It’s so marvellous. I’m so glad I came across these interviews

Glad you're enjoying them. Bear in mind, these are just the ones that I decided to recut for my playlist. Prowl around online and you can find dozens of the raw tapes from throughout her career. Originally, she used a single-camera setup, so the camera person would start in a two-shot, push in on the interviewee for the entirety, and then at the end they'd reshoot Bobbie's closeups to cut away to in the edit. By 1989, when she interviewed Bill Murray about Ghostbusters II, she had progressed to a two-camera setup, so the interactions feel much more spontaneous.

For some reason, the online raw tape of her interviewing Dan Aykroyd in 1984 is missing Bobbie's cutaways at the end. Luckily, this was the big Ghostbusters press day at the Plaza hotel, so Wygant had interviewed several members of the cast that day, always wearing the same outfit. I believe it was the Rick Moranis interview which appeared to have been shot in the same room as the Aykroyd, so I was able to lift some nonverbal reactions from that raw tape and keep Bobbie 'present' instead of just being a disembodied voice.

This is strange editing the person interviewing Sigourney seems really fake in her interest probably because of the shoty cutting

Yeah, sounds like the same as that link I sent you above, to the raw footage of the Sigourney interview on Vimeo. That was standard procedure for a one-camera interview. You want the interviewEE's responses to be natural, so you focus on them first. Then you re-create the interviewER's closeups and edit them together later. All of the Wygant interviews with GB actors have been uploaded in their original uncut format, so I did a series of recuts to make them more like a broadcast version might have been. For some reason, the 'turnarounds' to Bobbie Wygant were missing from the Dan Aykroyd interview, but luckily they were done in the same (or an identical) room at the Plaza Hotel in NYC on the same day as her interview with Rick Moranis, so I used some of her nonverbal reactions to splice into the interview with Dan and keep her 'present' in the scene. By the way, check out the uncut version of the Moranis one if you can find it. He is still in the room and keeps making funny remarks when she asks the questions for her turnarounds, and finally she has to tell him to stop. LOL
