It just all depends on the car. Something like this barn find needs to be Wide Bodied and modded like crazy, but something like an old 55 or 60's-70's 911 needs to be kept OEM if it's already a fairly clean example. I think this goes for any car. If something is easy to restore then go that route but if it would cost as much to restore it as it would to mod it, then mod the crap out of it.

sjpro1 well I agree it looks like it was a last minute afterthought. Usually you would want to build the front end around the grill.

This build is heavily inspired by the 935 and 917. If you look at the front ends on those cars they have mesh screens like this car does. It makes sense why he chose it.
Bad ads build.. anyone else thinks the mesh on the front grill let's it down a bit. The quality doesn't look as sharp as the rest of the car

The grills and the clear tube running through the car take away from a otherwise incredible car

The headlights need to be waaaaaaaaaaay more recessed. But the rest of it is absolutely amazing.
Never really been a Porsche guy, I dig 'em, just not really my thing. That being said, that car is SICK! Also I dug the fact that he uses Oregon companies to help with his build. I live in McMinnville, it's a pretty small town, so that was cool too.
I was about to say shoutout 503 but you guys are repping the 541 down there, right? Either way, I'm stoked to see Oregon getting some representation.

That looks nothing like the sketch and that awful mesh really grinds my gears. This car is only mechanically fascinating, aesthetically it's a zero for me.
Not to mention the body panels fitting and gaps!
I love the back, but the front end with the new lights and ugly front grill let it down.

The beauty of this car comes from the fact that it was probably a few years away from being unusable and completely oxidized...and now it is pushing 400 horsepower on a 911 suspension with a proprietary engine block that uses 911 internals. I guess that it's a love it or hate it look....but I am in love with this car for sure. Simply incredible.
Very interesting the fibreglass wasn’t painted to match/contrast the silver aluminium. Kinda digging the look of raw fibreglass though

The headlights seem to me a bit small but apart ftom that it's beautifull
It's the mesh in the front grills. That's the only thing that's off. Perhaps the front coulf be tucked back a little bit so it doesn't have such a substantial chin. Otherwise it's an amazing car.

One of the most impressive parts of this build is that every aluminum panel is HAND shaped from scratch.
The amount went into the craftsmanship of the fenders alone makes this car so special!
The car is unbelievable but those wheels are freaking awesome. They'd look good on just about anything.

Sorry dude but I think it looks like a modified beetle. Which is a shame because I love 356s the rear end though looks like a Marcos Mantis. I bet it drives pretty nice

To me what's really funny about these porsche builds is, how they use any material even it's super crappy, just because Porsche used it back in the day. Just like that rubber stuff or the yellow fiberglass. I mean people have to understand Porsche was a very small company up until the 90s or even the 2000s. Those racecars back in the day were often built by teams smaller and with way less money than those shops today. So at Porsche they propably went "Hey Freddi hasch mir au no ebbes fiar den boda, mir hen koin debbich mei" (Hey Freddie I need something to cover the ground) and then they found that rubber stuff lying around.
The front mesh spoils it for me though :(

Congratulations! You changed one of the most beautiful and iconic Sportscars into the ugliest, riced tinbuckets i have ever seen! 😡 💩 😢 I am almost crying here when looking at this... Don't get me wrong, the basic idea was awesome ... so are the design sketches! But the final car doesn't have anything from them ... the proportions are so wrong .. and the home depot front grill is just awful.

I think he was a mix of star struck and blown away at the build in general. I too would be speechless if I was in a room admiring this thing with THE Rod Emory himself.

I always like what he does, but this one does not work for me at all except in the rear.
While I do appreciate unique builds, it's just not my cup of tea. That being said, the amount of work that went into this is mind boggling and I think any car guy can respect that! Definitely a build of passion and you can see this man is a guru in the Porsche world.
Also, props to Nads for taking the comments seriously. The video was really enjoyable to watch and it's nice being able to hear the owner tell the love story. Keep it up!!
Just when I wanted to know about this car Hoonigan delivers. I can't agree with the car front, there's something off where the hood meets the bumper but otherwise this thing is awesome. Looks smaller in person than on video too..

We've been following Rod for quite sometime, and we're so pumped to hear he was going to bring his car down for a Buil Bio!
In my opinion the front end needs a little refining. It’s almost like it can’t decide wether it’s modern or retro. Maybe if the grill was black that would help a bit. It’s also angled a bit too forward. Otherwise I love the car.
Isn't that the nice thing about building a car like this, everyone has there own idea of whats perfect!

It's based on the Porsche 356 and Porsche 356 roadster. Not to mention the Type 64. It's deliberately that way--not an attempt to slot in with every single modern trend.

I would have preferred a 934 style build. But the exposed rear is the business! And an atmo six. Instead of a turbo 4. If you flatten the traditional 356 headlights why stick with a 4? Doesn’t seem logical
That 4 is almost as powerfull as a 6 but it weighs 160lbs less than a 911 6cyl.
Edgar Schuermer if you’re looking for power run a turbo on the six. I just love the flat 6 and plus there are already enough Subaru sounds in this to enjoy on a daily basis. Sorry, but in the Midwest I don’t hear one everyday.
