What a lot of tennis people do not understand is that 120 mph to the corner of the service box gives the receiver LESS reaction time than 147mph serve that lands 3 or 4 feet short of the service line. That's why hitting deep in rallies is so effective. The ball loses a TREMENDOUS amount of velocity when it hits the court. Thats why short serves, regardless of how hard they are initially hit, aren't really that big of a weapon. Even slower servers can be GREAT servers if they train to hit the deep spots on the court, and the angle spots that require the receiver to cover a lot more ground in order to return.
Sam Groth's serve - so much power, but never hitting the corners of the service box. Serve placement level is just not at a pro level, and thats why despite the speed, Murray broke him repeatedly.
@Gonzalo revje yep and his game style was unique to him, he loved hitting the ball hard which usually means more unforced errors and entering the net a lot, sometimes a little crazy too much
Remember, a lot of those were second serve and he's still coming in for the volley. Probably the right play for him, he's not guna beat Murray from the baseline. The problem is he didn't have a good volleying day and Murray made it tough for him with low and short returns. If he had a good serving day, getting more first serves in, and was volleying a bit better then he could've created done some damage to Murray. The problem is that Murray is so consistent and Groth would have to play his best, serving almost flawlessly.
videos like this shows you just how good andy murray is. maybe he's not in the big3's league but he's certainly the closest anyone will reach (maybe delpo too if he wasn't injured)
For a serve and volley guy, if you don't have a career in single, at least extend your career in double; but since his volley is so bad, he couldn't find a partner, hence ...retirement!
If you’re serious, please answer me why all the tennis players continue to play on the baseline, even every time they’re losing, when it clearly doesn’t work out…
@@paolococuroccia5556 because that's how you play tennis .....and that's also how everyone plays nowadays. They can't win if they are not good enough to beat the opponent. Or if they are playing well above their ability then the statement is ridiculous. Players do try and change things up but can't if they are not good enough to beat the opponent but sometimes it makes a difference.
More like he's taking a big risk. He knows other than the fast serve his baseline AND net game is inferior to Murray's, so he tried to serve big, smash the ball when he had the chance and get forward.
@@thebusinessbuddha1278 who cares... that isn't what is being discussed here. Sure he is better than most, including you and I. But at that stage... he is average at best
When the alternative is trying to rally at the baseline against a player with some of the best groundstrokes in the game, there's not much of a choice. S&V is how Groth's entire skillset was designed, so it's not like he can just remake his entire arsenal mid-match.
Beedle right good point! But in general a pro’s coach (or even any real coach) is to develop the player techniques and strategy.. being static means not sustainable success.

Biggest prick of all time
@@invisibleman3268 true great players are pricks cuz of bad sportsmanship, they hate to lose and it’s also what makes them great and ruthless

Trying to serve and volley against one of the greatest returners of all time is probably not a good idea.
Oreginal thinking the same, but kinda strange how Zverev beat Murray in 17 AO
Oreginal i think he should play by playing at the baseline
twks123 True. Though everyone has an off day. Even the best players. Plus he vollyed and sliced much better. AND its more awkward playing a Leftie.
even worse idea is playing at the basiline
He knew beforehand that he had no business winning from baseline, so might as well try to get some quick and easy points at the net.

Groth only has one plan
A
Murray was a good tennis player
No shit the guy won 3 grand slams
Still is, he's playing 34 yrs old with a metal hip and beating strong players.
Best lob in the business baby!

His volley isn actually pretty good, he played good doubles too. Played well in doubles in Davis Cup.
I don't know if it's still possible nowadays to see a Serve & Volley player win a major tournament... i miss Rafter, McEnroe, Edberg...
Why did he proceed to continue to come in - serve and volley when it clearly wasn't working. Great lobbing by murray

Footwork is always the most important thing in tennis
Murray's topspin lob is fantastic, his dropshot not so much.
Murrays dropshot is a great shot.
Dude has a huge first serve but that is about it. Zero consistency
How many mayors did you win?

I noticed after watching this video. Horrific groundstrokes esp. that backhand and volley.
Topspin lobs by Murray, what a weapon!
Power is nothing without control.
Andy Murray is amazing and he is my favourite player of all time x
Lob festival!!!!
Stay in game,
And please don't die,
Keep ball in court

Murray à l'aube de son énorme saison 2016
Definitely the actual modern and ultra fast game is for baseliners !
Sam Groth has a pretty powerful serve, but trying to serve and volley over and over and over again was not helping his case.
Geiler Spieler dieser sam Groth. Da treffen zwei Schwergeichter aufeinander.💪💪💪💪💪💪
No wonder Groth had to serve and volley so much. Such horrific ground strokes. lololol

Groth = short ball king = get lobbed or passed every time
Imagine putting your logo on ripped footage from someone else putting their logo on ripped footage
They show every shitty point but not the point that made Groth win his first game😡
Groth’s volleys are a bit weak.
Sam Groth has to be the worst big server ever. Like the balls was almost always a foot inside the center or side lines.
Que mal que juega por Dios, subir a la red con andy en su mejor momento jaja chistoso
