John, Pete, Allen, and Paul. You are who your friends are for sure. Thanks Matt for the video. Awesome intro too!
What is your take on liquid vs granular fungicide? Nobody really hits on that. I need some advice
I have been using propicanazole in both liquid and granular * form, and now I understand that I need another mode because of resistance. I have been spraying propicanazole with those bottle type hose end prayers recommended by the lawn care nut , is that a correct way to apply fungicide or do I need to invest in a pump or battery sprayer type ?thank you very much for your time God bless.
Headway is a great product. I use it in rotation on my bentgrass putting green along with a few others but almost all of my applications include Daconil, chlorothalonil. Syngenta makes a product called Daconil Action that I'm using and I think it makes the chlorothalonil even more effective. It's a bit pricey compared to standard chlorothalonil or Daconil Ultrex but it's brilliant from my observation. I also use Subdue Maxx if conditions are right for Pythium. I got smoked by Pythium Blight during an overseed two years ago. It was terrible.
I wish, so much, so often, that daconil was available for residential turf. Such an effective, broad spectrum, low potential for resistance, fungicide. Mefenoxam was always my go-to for pythium as well. I do not miss my old L-93 bentgrass greens ever! Not a day in my life! 😂
@@TheGrassFactor I am sure you don't! After a very brief look at residential restrictions it seems somewhat random to me but I'd have to dig deeper to follow the logic. I'd think chlorothalonil would reduce the total amount of fungicides used but again I'd have to take a better look. One thing for sure is it would make DIY disease control far more efficient.
Love the intro from Paul!
CD Andrews yep that dude is great!
Paul's Prime Cuts 😂
Excellent content. Best on TH-cam.
Shakey camera syndrome is a real thing doe 🤣🤣
The Lawn Care Nut, hi LCN, why don’t you ever answer my question that I ask you yesterday about the 21 inch lawn mower jack I saw in one of your past videos?
The Lawn Care Nut, i ask you many questions and you only ever answered one
I love the idea of applying two groups of fungicide at the same time, the Azoxystrobin and Propicanazole to give you a 28 and 14 day residual coverage, and perhaps apply prop the 2nd time for another 14 days.
My question is, can I apply another Azox and Prop for the 2nd month, and do the same approach as the first? I imagine doing this from May-Aug.
Do you think the fungus will build resistance?
Is this combo ok to spray on scorching hot days? I'm changing this year to spraying fungicide vs. big box granular... but it's mid 90's for the foreseeable future and I have brown patch. If I'm using half the rate when combining to get the curative effects (1oz each per 1k), is that safe in extreme heat? Thanks guys!
Manually spike aerate your front yard in the spots where water retains before the next rain. It works wonders.
The Yoda of lawn care, thank you Matt!
That 32oz to the acre rate converted to 1000sqft ish is 1 ounce per 1359sqft. Whenever Matt says to the acre I get my calculator out, lol.
Always the ounce rate divided by 43.5 😂
HD MOVIE SOURCE I think you would be ok at about .75 oz per 1000 sq feet
I just received my TGF hat and am totally stoked!
Give the opening act a raise. That guy has talent!
Larry Newman good eye man ..... good eye
Seeing it here too. I need to look up liquid strobe. At a 32 oz rate of each should be able. To save money over headway thanks.
i run 16 of each
The Grass Factor with surfractant?
I also get disease problems in st augustine near the house where there's lots of shade.
Any time we get consecutive days with lots of rain and high heat, the issues pop up.
Oh.... So you mowed it really low did ya? What.. Did you get it down to like 3 inches?
No. Matt went low, like real low. . . 2.5" ;)
Man that is one good looking dude in the hat at the beginning!
killed it!
The Grass Factor where do you get that high test propaconazoil?
Paul's Prime Cuts get it locally from Dickens turf
The Grass Factor .. Still 16oz of the 41.8 in this mix? I have been using 16oz Azoxy and 16oz of prop but it’s a 14.3
That’s practically year round here. Maybe a few months we are out of the danger zone. Just started using heritage g and eagle. I always thought it was a water problem.
Very informative video and appropriate timing. It’s cool that all you guys work with each other helping everyone out. Much appreciated.
I was just talking with you on another older video about this. I did something similar and applied Spectrazide hose end (weak Home Depot liquid) with propiconazole and a few days later Scotts Ex (granular) with azoxystrobin. So far so good...
It’s funny you mentioned you can do everything right but still get disease and that’s definitely true. Sucks!
Two questions for you if you don’t mind.
How do you determine which disease should be treated foliar or with a granular?
So as we know Headway G is a granular and you’re using a liquid version. Will one potentially work better for BP or both the same? Basically does it matter if it’s applied as a liquid or a granular.
I prefer liquid because you get foliarly and root uptake. Now you can wet your grass THEN apply granular and mimic the second uptake, but I typically prefer liquid because I don't have the luxury of being to wet lawns on demand
I like that idea. How long after would you wait to water it in to get the root uptake effect?
It hasn’t stopped raining here in Richmond. It just stopped yesterday and I immediately sprayed Eagle 20. Should I have waited for the lawn to dry a little or will it still be effective?
Also, what’s the name of that primo fescue seed? I’d love to use it in the Fall!
I think rgs dethach 002, your opinion?Won’t hurt to try, and treat other spots with fungicide to see the difference!
Matt, much of what you said in this reminds me of our conversation over email. I have to agree with Allyn's comment! Great video and content for the current issue many people are encountering right now.
I thought tall fescue crowns can be damaged if you mow too low? Scalping?
Indeed they can, but you have to go really low, like digging into the soil scalp
wow, that opening music is hard on the eardrums.
Fleets Enema trying to blast those ears off!
Dealing with leaf spot fungus with 2 products different ingredient, one granular, one liquid. How soon after application can i fertilize and should i go organic Milorganite or hit it harder with genetic high nitrogen fertilizer? Thanks,
Am I the only one who was super pumped and encouraged by the intro to that video?
You seem to always say “on fescue lawns” are other types of cool season grass (ie: Kentucky Bluegrass, or Perennial Rye) relatively more resistant to this disease?
Yessir
The Grass Factor Gotcha! Thanks for the reply! I have previously repaired patches of grass in my lawn using unknown seed varieties and really never had a problem, but this year I did a few with fescue and it got straight up murdered by disease. The heat/rain/humidity combo we have here in southern PA is ruthless.
Green County said RGS at 2 times label rate will knock out brown patch.
It won't knock it out but it will help it stay ahead of the disease.
I emailed John about my brown patch and he said to apply fungicide and then follow up with Air8, the potassium in it would help.
What about bermuda what will it mean
Hey Matt, if you are cutting your grass at @ 4", why does that grass you use to show the brown patch look @ 8-10" long. My grass is the same why, like it's laying down, and then shooting upward. I'm using a new Toro Recycler 2 w/the high vac blade. I'm wonderinhg, if I need a different blade... wonder what the negative pressure is under the shroud?
Is combining two groups of fungicide together in one application better than alternating them after every application?
Frank Daniels yes, it broadens spectrum of control
Man Paul’s a trip.. lol
Put down my 4th app of PPZ today w/an Azoxystrobin chaser. Never used a fungicide before until I found your & that LCN guy's TH-cam sites. What's his name... Alvin... Albert. Anyway, I don't think the fungus was expecting it. Usually, by this time of year the fungus would have taken over the yard, but the grass (TF) is still looking great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
🤣 Allyn is gonna e-get you for that
Do you have a weather app that keeps track of rainfall for the last week/month?
I keep a written record
MeebsMowing Lawn Service
An excel spreadsheet with auto-calculating fields would work well.
aguyandhiscomputer how would I go about collecting rainfall? Rain gauge in the yard?
MeebsMowing Lawn Service
Yes, look for rain gauge on Amazon. I've never done it myself so that's all I can recommend.
Dose the home depot, or lows stuff work in the spray... Or granular???? What happens if you over apply fung products ????
CC CC what are the active ingredients? Liquid is more effective than granular. If you over apply you waste $ and harm the environment
The Grass Factor this one

CC CC propiconazol is rated 2 out of 4 stars in terms of efficacy. Works OK
The Grass Factor what works lol????
Other common product sold as a lawn fungicide is Myclobutanil. Same FRAC group as Propiconazole. Same efficacy. A good reason for combining Azoxystrobin or any other Strobilurin fungicide with another fungicide is their poor efficacy on Dollar Spot. Prostar is another good Brown Patch fungicide, but it also does not do anything for Dollar Spot. If I apply one of these good Brown Patch products it is just about always combined with an effective Dollar Spot fungicide such as Myclobutanil.
Great video Matt! I have dogs, any advice in identifying dollar spot (or beginnings of brown patch) vs urine burn?
Dog pee will needle the leaf, Brown patch brown it
The Grass Factor ok perfect, that’s what I’m seeing. I had somewhat bad dollar spot and brown patch last year so was getting nervous. Probably should get a preemptive application of you recommended fungicide. I have a 16,000sf lawn what would you recommend to apply the liquid fungicide. A 4gal backpack sprayer or a larger (fill in the blank) push sprayer. Sorry, no budget for the permagreen!
For 16K, look at the sprayers John Ware and Connor Ward have built.
I’m just getting into diy lawn care and I have a a decent amount of drown patch and weeds in my st aug. can I attack both of them at the same time I was planning on using the combination you talk about in the video and I wasn’t sure if I can mix any weed killer with that? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
You mentioned Chlorothalonil, did you add that to Azoxy and Prop or were you just talking about it?
Just talking about it. It's not labelled for residential
Would this chemical work on St Augustine grass?
When you run this mix do you also utilize a surfactant, if so what type?
In that tank was ps804
Does it clog the nozzles or foam up tank?
No sir
Just noticed this yesterday in NY... Not pleased
Hey Matt, I’m not seeing any brown patch yet, but I’ve got mushrooms popping up all over. Do I need to deal with them or just let the sun cook them?
Nah, just mow them out
I need a TGF sticker for my spreader!
Roll your own. I've heard you use that phrase before. What ever do you man? LOL!
Someone hit the lamp pole with the Permagreen? 😉
LaRueOBR 5.56 wife's friend backed into it 🤣
What the heck happen to that lamp post,it's like the leaning tower of light. :D Never had a problem with brown patch in wet weather, but I get rust fungus .
I am so early it is low def
youtube keeps me in low fi
I think your fungicide bottles have a fungus problem! :)
I known I'm late to the party here, but please don't ever mow like that again. My roomba could do a better job at keeping on track. lol
I hate cutting grass 😫 also, I was spraying my lawn, not mowing it...
So what can a diy that will work with fungus and dollar spot and brown patch lol...?????
More scary mowing music lol
What’s up bro! Just laid about 1000 sf of St. Aug sod to fix damage from brown patch and over fertilization last year. Can I throw some propaconzol and RGS on it and the rest of the yard? I haven’t bought the azoxy yet because my yard is breaking the bank. Thanks bud 👍
You betcha you can!
Dude. Get to the point. We don’t want to hear about your big words...tell me what treats and that’s it
