I have been a caregiver for over 8 years and in that time I have discovered that there is more than one type of grief. One stage of grief is when we discover that our parents are slowly growing away from us. We all understand that we are mortal, but actually seeing our parents going through the journey either through injury or aging strikes us in a way that we do not expect. My dad is now 100, which is a blessing. Yet… I totally understand where you were coming from when you did not know if your dad was ever going to be at your house again. Sometimes I feel like going to see my dad is a chore and then I stop and think that many people would love to be able to go see their dads again. Hope you have a blessed Christmas.
Thanks Liz and thank you for all of the care that you give.
You are right about the realisation that those we love are getting older. It's tough - but when someone complains about getting old (including myself), I usually try to remember that it's better than the alternative.
Thanks and have a lovely time. xx
I’ve been there, too, and couldn’t agree with you more.
@@estherrubin867 Thanks Esther x
A Christmas gathering to treasure. You are fun to watch and have such a sense of fun and adventure in your knitting.
Thanks so much - you are very kind. Hope the holiday season has treated you well. Thanks and take good care xx
I love you just being you!
You are so very kind - thank you for being here and hope all is good with you xx
Hi Lesley, i am watching you today for comfort as my Crafty Aunty died on Thursday. I got the dreaded hospital call on Weds and spent the night by her side talking about her garden, her crochet, bobbin lace and knitting gifts that she shared with me and all. She especially loved making baby christening lace blankets.I once wrote a comment that you reminded me of her, so watched you today for a bit of that. And then this episode is about grief and christmas plans. Thank you, for being you and sharing genuine life with the world. As i kept telling my aunty, you are beautiful, you are lovely and thank you for being here.
Oh goodness - I am so sorry to hear your news. I am glad you were able to be with her (it's a huge privilege, isn't it?) sharing those things you enjoyed together.
Take very good care of yourself and I hope that the good memories sustain you.
Sending all love xx
Hi Lesley. Thanks for another enjoyable visit. So many beautiful yarns! Have a lovely and relaxing holiday. See you next time.
Thanks so much. Happy Holidays and keep well xx
So great to see you again! I enjoy your podcasts so much....keep them coming. I'm glad your Dad is feeling better. Both of my parents have died and I really miss them!
Hi Christina - sending you all love - missing people is so much more poignant this time of year, isn't it? Thanks for being here and take care xx
Merry Merry Christmas to you and yours♥️🎄♥️Thank you for everything you do here for all of us crafters, all you share with us is so wonderful! 😘
You are very kind. Thanks so much for being here and take care xx
We sang a little duet there! Im glad im not the only one who immediately belts out song lyrics when the old brain churns them up!
My school gym knickers were bottle green. Its still a favourite colour none the less 😂
Don't worry about having been insensitive. Not that you were at all. Grief manifests in many peculiar ways but sharing is always a good idea.
Happy belated birthday to my namesake and merry Christmas to all of you. XXX
ETA; I'm not allowed to go Christmas food shopping after an unfortunate incident in Tesco a few years ago. I shan't say too much but imagine The Hulk being pinned in by trolleys, unable to move, getting hotter, angrier and more claustrophobic by the second. "The Hulk" as we shall say to protect my identity, was then escorted from the premises before any physical injuries could be incurred by those who had trapped said Hulk.
Fortunately, the Hulk's husband stepped in and removed her before security got a chance! 🥵🥴😠🤬💀⚠️🚫➡️
Ha! Are we expected to see the CCTV footage from "The Hulk" on TV anytime soon? If so, I hope that you get the £250.
Song lyrics have to be sung as soon as they pop in the head - thanks for joining in.
I have been enjoying your Vlogmas (currently up to 21st) - what beautiful yarns - so lovely.
Hope you and yours had a great Christmas.
All the best xx
Certainly not on the BBC...maybe Channel 4...after the watershed 😳
We were raised the same way, you always want o have more, I still do the same as my mom. I taught my kids to love leftovers. It will never go to waste. Looks like you had a lovely time with your dad and family. Family time is the best time. Have a very merry Christmas. Enjoy your time off.
Thanks Mary.
I do enjoy cooking with leftovers - it's a bit like my knitting process!
Hope you and yours have had a great time.
Thanks and take care xx
How lovely to have everyone together - especially getting your Dad there. I remember having the same thought about my mum. Sadly that came true for me: as you may remember we lost mum back in March, so we’re still getting over the firsts of everything. Your Advent goodies look amazing! Have a wonderful Christmas. Lots of love xx
Hi Louise. I hope that this first Christmas without Mum was a time of happy memories, as well as the odd tear. Sending all warmth and hugs. Thanks for being here and take very good care xx
Les , it was lovely to see your joy at having dad with you , and I for one didn’t even think , you were being insensitive at all , surely we can join in with your joy , that’s what’s it all about , sharing the here and now , the past , what was , and remembering the past times and now the present times , so no apologies needed ,I’m glad you got your dad , and you have a jolly Christmas , happy 2024 wished for you too xxxx❤❤❤❤
Thanks George. That is all much appreciated. Hope you had a good Christmas and all the very best xx
So delighted that you were all able to gather at your house. Have a lovely relaxing Christmas, and enjoy the break next week. Loved all your vlogmas vids and seeing all the wonderful yarns - decisions decisions as to what to create with it all now. How exciting, enjoy :-)
Thanks Muireann. Hope you had a good one. Thanks and take care xx
Hi, Lesley. How wonderful that your dad was able to make the family party. Celebrate and enjoy every moment with him. You've all been through a lot over the past year.
This year will be different for us. Dad loved his Christmas dinner, and he was always very appreciative. We will raise a glass and remember him.
It's all change this year for us, our daughter is hosting for the first time.
Have a lovely Christmas, take care. Xx
Hiya. You were one of the people I was thinking of. I hope you have a great time - enjoy being at your daughter's and have lots of fun.
All the very best to you all xx
Thanks for sharing all the festivities with us. Since I am from America it is fun to see the different things others get up to in this busy season. It gives me such ideas for future get togethers with my family. Not to worry about the over catering, I am guilty of this as well. Someone always needs a meal to go home with so I always make extras.
Hiya. The over-catering is quite usual, if the comments here are anything to go by - as you say, there are always means to share. Thanks so much and hope your holiday season has been good xx
Merry Christmas Lesley! I’m glad that you were able to gather all your family around you. Take care xx
Thanks Nadine. Hope all has been enjoyable for you and yours. Take care and keep well xx
Hello Lesley, big hugs to your Dad, bless him.🥰
Thanks Anna. I will pass it on xx
You always have to treasure the time together. You don't need to apologise for that Lesley. Christmas is a time to remember too. My father's favourite tipple was a G & T, so I get one of those little ready mixed tins and toast him on his birthday and at Christmas. Makes me happy and sad but being sad reminds me how lucky I am to have had such a lovely father and mother.
Hiya.
Yes, - treasuring time and treasuring memories are important. Hopr you enjoyed your G&T.
Thanks so much and take good care xx
Me again, happy birthday to “ my mate Mandy”. Merry Christmas to all 🎄🥰
Thanks so much. All the best to you and those you love xx
Thanks again for another wonderful vlog! I truly enjoy watching your podcasts and see all the fun you are ! I’m so glad all of your family made it! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks Teena. Hope you had a great Christmas. All the best xx
Thank you for your lovely Vlogs - hope you had a wonderful Christmas! My last weeks were very hectic so I'm catching up now, which is a treat. If I don't "see" you before I'm want to wish you all the very best for 2024 - and of course just the best for your family, too! Cheers🥂
Thanks so much. Hope you've had a great time and wishing you all the best xx
Vlogmas was so much fun! Happy to hear that your Dad could be there with you!!!
Thanks so much. It's funny how doing what we usually do can take on mew significance. I hope that all is well with you. Thanks and take care xx
A bit of Roy Orbison is good for the soul and we sang it together as soon as you said the name of the yarn 🥰 be singing it all day 👍🤣
Ha! It's quite an "earworm" isn't it? Xx
Happy Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for all your videos I really appreciate them x
Thanks for being here Anna. Hope you and yours had a great Christmas xx
I'm so pleased you had your dad and all the family there❤❤ love the podcasts Lesley always great fun. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year xx
Thanks Michelle. It felt like a big thing, as well as a normal one. I hope you and yours had a good one. All the very best xx
Thank you so much for acknowledging nurses lack of family christmas... so many holidays were worked, twice my boss took my kid because there were no sitters to be had. As my son said any day mom has off is a holiday. Here garden centers are attached to home repair places, no restaurants, not even a bench for weak legs to rest. Meijers grocery chain is food and various home goods with some gardeny stuff, used to have a place you could eat in the store but that is gone. Stopped in a tea place but $2.50 for a cup of tea, $5 for a slice of cake..didn't happen. Son and I had car picnics keeping basket packed at all times with plates, cultery, etc so we could get various things ( hopefully marked down) from store and feast where ever we were hungry. Inelegant but efficient and good memories. You stimulated me to pull lots of bread heels from freezer for a nice bread pudding. In the busy years worked so much , was always running late according to others so changed the rules by doing shopping 12/26 on sale, wrapping it in the car at post office and posting it off when there was no line. Met another nurse who created Thanksmas...Thanksgiving dinner and christmas together when her grand daughter could be there and she was off was wonderful tradition. Will wait til sale to go out again, entirely too peopley out there. Be safe
Hi Cheryl. Thank you for all of your work and I love reading about the traditions that you created - all very sensible as well as fun. Take good care and hope you can avoid the "people-y-est" of places xx
So happy your Dad made it to your house for the family gathering. Anyone who lost a parent this year would be happy you had your Dad, and yes, sad their parent is gone. Both of mine have been gone a long time, they passed in 1995 and 1998. Have a great Christmas time. I ended up with gout yesterday and today.
Hi Linda. Oh dear - Gout sounds VERY painful - hope it's not slowing you down too much. Take good care and wishing you all the best xx
@NotQuiteEnoughYarn the gout is better, thank goodness. I talked to my friend that is retiring and I did not miss her retirement party as it is Jan. 21st. Lol
Understand, I am an abundance cook, my husband and I always have leftovers as I can't simply cook a meal for two! 😂 I love this weekly style of your daily vlogmas.
Thanks so much - I like the phrase "abundance cook" - it has a good ring to it.
Thank you and all the very best xx
I was so happy to see that your Dad was able to join everyone at your house for the day! I felt that was quite an achievement after all he’s been through recently. Glad that everything went well and you scraped enough together to feed them all🤣 and that you and your sisters didn’t disappoint with the silliness! Wanted to wish you, himself and miss Heidi all the best best at Christmas and the new year and to thank you for the videos you make to entertain us xx
Hi Heather. Thanks so much. It's scary to think that I'm not the silliest sister! (The one dresses as santa holds that crown).
Hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you all the best for the New Year xx
Enjoy your time off. Thanks for the Vlogs and Pods. Jane xx
Thanks Jane. Hope all is well. Take good care xx
Have a lovely, relaxed, peaceful Christmas!
Thank you - and wishing you the same xx
OOH I love your Blue ombre cardigan. Don't remember seeing it. I love it so much.
I teared up over seeing your dad with ya. I can miss my dad like crazy and celebrate when others are blessed with one more day.
So happy that you and Mand have each other.
Happy Christmas, my friend. I hope you know that you are loved so very very much.
Thanks Valorie - now I have tears in my eyes.
The ombre cardigan was from a few years ago - the "Lysvirka" made in Scheepjes (sp?) whirl.
Love to you and "Papa".
Take good care xx
Merriest of Christmases to you and all, from this side of the pond 🇨🇦.
Thanks Karla. And to you and yours xx
Hello! Don't be so hard on yourself (I say this as much to myself as to you). This is such a !!!!!!!!! time of year. Everything is BIG and BOLD and A LOT. I am the way you are with food but with presents. Is it enough? Will they like it? Can I convey my love with *only* this much? It is a hard time of year. But know that it is enough and you are enough and I so enjoy watching you!
Thank you- your words are much appreciated. Hope you have had a good Christmas. Take care xx
I was getting emotional thinking about your Dad being there too, Lesley and so happy you did ❤ Thank you for being here, and take care of yourself over your holiday ❤
Thanks so much. Hope you are doing well and have been having fun xx take care xx
Thank you Lesley for keeping up the vlogmas and am grateful that it was not interrupted for the reasons it was last year. Both my husband’s and my parents are gone now, but I have to say that I completely understand what you were saying about having your Dad at your house. I cherish those last times they were at my house, too, and I do think it’s important to recognize and celebrate those special moments in real time. No need to apologize. Of course I wish everyday that we could have our parents with us but it doesn’t mean I can’t be happy for you and your family to have that pleasure. As far as being a food overplanner……I kept nodding my head as you described yourself trying to decide when enough was enough😂 My guests usually go home with bags of leftovers, which I have to admit is really fun for me. Take care and hope your holidays are just as you want them to be.
Hi Esther.
Thanks so much - yes - it is important to enjoy the now, as well as the memories - sending you all warmth and affection as you remember those who are no longer here xx
The over-catering - there is a fear of someone not having what they want isn't there?
Hope that you are well and enjoying any festivities xx
Wonderful Holidays to you as well!🎄
Thanks Carol. Hope you've been having fun. Take care xx
A huge thank you for doing vlogmas Lesley, it's been great. You make us laugh, you make us smile, you make us have tears, such good fun 🤗.
I am so glad you got to have all your family round last weekend. Happy birthday Mandy, she looks like she is full of fun, probably why you get on so well. Hope you have a lovely, relaxing time. Happy Christmas 🎄 🎄 xxx
Thanks for being here, Dorothy - it's been fun to do the vlogs, although they have been much longer than I intended!
Wishing you all the best. Thanks and take care xx
Merry Christmas Leslie and yours do love your weekly vlogs
Thanks Barbara - hope you had a good one and that you are keeping well xx
Happy birthday Mandy
Thanks - I will pass it on xx
Merry Christmas Lesley.
I'm having that scary for next years Christmas this year.
Although Mum still lives in the same house I grew up in, these last two months have taken a lot of her from us.
She's getting forgetful. I mean she's 92 I'm incredibly lucky to still have her. But the time has come for Mum to move into somewhere she will get more simulation and company.
So feeling a bit scared, nervous, teary even.
But our children and grandchildren will see smiling Jane come Monday.
Sorry, but I know you understand how I'm feeling.
Off to one of our son's for bacon and sausage butties on Christmas morning. Present opening and a few games. Then popping in to our best friends on the way back. Finding time to watch the Kings speech. I can't be alone when the film comes to mind every time I say that. 🤷
Right time to move again.
Have a lovely break from work. Take care xxJane 🐑🎄
Hi Jane
Hope you had a lovely Christmas - your plans sounded great.
It is tough to see folks get older and weaker - to know that some traditions will have to change. It's scary - we always assume that the new won't be as good.
I hope that everyone enjoyed their time and that you were able to smile with a happy heart.
Take very good care xx
Hope your Holiday is wonderful! 😊
Thanks Karen. Hope you had a great time. All the very best xx
It was lovely to see your family gathering at your home, and with your father there. It brought back some fond memories of seeing my parents years ago at Christmas. I found myself nodding in agreement as you showed appreciation for all the medical professionals and staff who sacrifice so much of their personal time to keep us chugging along. They are due great admiration. Have a wonderful holiday.
Thanks Frank. That is much appreciated. I hope that you've been having fun and are keeping well. Take good care xx
I understand your expressions. Had many of the same.
Thank you - glad it's not just me. Take good care and keep well xx
Love your jumper ❤
Thank you - I have been keeping cosy this winter! Take good care xx
Christmas blessings to you and your family! Marie
Thanks Marie. Wishing all happiness to you and yours xx
Happy New Year Lesley, I'm with you on buying too much food and over catering. Better than being underfed every time xxx
Absolutely - the leftovers can usually go in the freezer for another day.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year to you xx
You're in good company...was it Nigella who said her aim was "never knowing the undercatered affair"? That lolly cake looks yummy! It's hard to stop the mind wandering to darker places but my Gran used to say, "don't meet trouble half way." I remind myself of that daily.🤭🤪 Have yourself a merry little Christmas 🎵 🎶 🎵🎄 🎁 🎅 ❤xo
Good advice from your Gran - I will try to remember it! Thanks and hope all is going well with you. xx
Hi Lesley. I’m afraid i’m like your mum. I always worry there won’tbe enough food or choices so i always end up cooking too much. But nothing get wasted as my kids go home with enough food to keep them going for a while 🙈😂. And it is a standing joke as to … what has mum forgotten in the microwave…because i think i will get ahead and prepare something (usually the red cabbage) and then forget it is in the microwave 🫣😖until we have eaten our main. And for some reason, they just don’t fancy it with there puddings 🤷♀️
How fab to have your dad there. And wearing his mittens. 😊
Hope you have a crafty peaceful Christmas xxx
Thanks Pip. I had a moment during lunch where I said "I have also got some samosas and bhajis - but they're still in the freezer - if anyone wants them, they'll be 20 minutes". Glad I'm not alone. Hope you and yours have a great time xx
I haven't commented on every vlogmas watched, but will do once all have finished even if it be 2024 when I do 😁😁 all the best to you and Richard keep taking care xxxx
Hi Enid.
Thanks so much. All the very best to you and yours from Himself, Heidi and me. Take good care and hope you have a lovely Christmas xx
Whoops, for got her Ladyship :p she is included xxxxx @@NotQuiteEnoughYarn
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thanks Lucy. Hope you had a good one. Take good care xx
At 58 I have just come out of hospital after pneumonia. This is the first year I am unable to do all the Christmas catering. I feel old! My home is full of equipment associated with old age and illness. I have had a rotten 2023 and am looking forward to 2024 being better. My mum is 83 and doing so much better than me. I have been out 3 times this year. I have now admitted I need help and hope this is the start of better things.
Hi Dee. So sorry to hear that you've had such a bad time. I hope that things are now looking up, and that better health is on the horizon. Thanks for being here and take very good care xx
Have a great Christmas
Thanks Linda. Hope you had a good one xx
I’m binge watching from the beginning of your podcast. Love it! You are a delight😊
Hi Lynne
Oh my goodness! Let me know at what point you get sick of me! (I'm guessing around Feb 2018?)
Thanks so much for being here - you are much appreciated.
All the very best
xx
@@NotQuiteEnoughYarn nope still watching! We don’t agree on everything but I like you very much. 😊
I’m pleased your Dad was there and you could all celebrate together…
I think knowing that your Dad had been unwell made your thoughts more prominent. I couldn’t have predicted at the start of the year that Mum wouldn’t be here by the end of the year. Even with almost ten years of cancer, she had always put everyone before herself x x
Thanks so much.
Sorry that you'll be seeing in the New Year without your Mum, but glad that you have the memories.
All the very best xx
Don't worry Lesley, we will soon blink and it will all be over as quickly as it has started, this Christmas prep. I want to wish you, Himself, your father and the rest of your family a very Merry Christmas🎄 Enjoy the season ❤ Diane
PS - I loved watching you make the dessert
Thanks Diane - wishing you and yours all happiness. Take good care xx
not at all insensative. I'm so happy your dad was able to be with you at your house. I hope it was a joyous afternoon. I lost my dad 9 years ago and I still miss him.
Hi Johanna.
We always miss them, don't we? Sending all good wishes. Thanks so much and take good care xx
Merry Christmas to you and yours Les! Hope you have a wonderful time!
I think we need some of those Antipodean sweeties on sale here. Although I have managed to find some of the Australian versions in B&M Bargains.
Hi Ian.
Hope you had a good one!
It was certainly interesting to see the different things available - I assumed it would just be different brands, rather than different products.
I will check out B&M - thanks for the tip.
All the best xx
@@NotQuiteEnoughYarn Mine says cheap yarn as well so it could be a twofer!
*sells Oh dear!
@@zabaglione that's beginning to sound a bit dangerous 😉🤣
Aww regarding your thought of being insensitive about having your dad through the door please don’t , we lost dad in law end of January went into hospital this time last year so this Xmas is proving tough but never for a second did I think you were insensitive you are allowed to share your feelings and I am sure most of your followers would want you to have that freedom of sharing emotions that’s why we watch and we can be supportive to each other even though indirectly sending hugs xx
Thank you - that is kind and reassuring. So sorry to hear about your father in law. Take very good care of yourselves and I hope that your Christmas is happy. Xx
Typical of the season are the feelings you speak of here...
Yep - it's a time of year thing. Take care xx
