Hi Folks. Thank you so much for all the lovely supportive comments, as always. I realised I hadn't mentioned it in the video, but please know we will be covering the horrible block work in stone so it looks more in keeping. That is not how it will look at the end 😂 We need the chimney to be strong enough to support the new roof ridge beams, hence getting it right, and with Sam working to earn some pennies, we decided it best to get a professional chimney man in. ❤ Bec.
@@theirishhomestead great work going on there! Looking forward to seeing the new chimney and eventually the new roof. The amount of work you two are doing yourselves is absolutely incredible. You must be bushed by the end of the day and go through a lot of Rub A535 lol
My mum was born in County Meath in 1929, one of fourteen children, 7 boys and 7 girls, she didn't talk much about her childhood but did tell me they lived in a long house with the animals at one end for the warmth. They cut peat in the fields. I can't imagine how hard their lives must have been, she would have been fascinated with your work in building such a beautiful home. I'm so happy for you 💞🙏💞 Just found out from my brother that mum lived in Drumbaragh, County Meath!
I've just read your comment and had to also comment. My Mum was born in 1928 and she had 14 children, 7 boys and 7 girls. I know its not an exact match, but very close ! SNAP ! We don't call it peat, its called Turf and its harvested in the bog not the fields. I expect that she lived close to the Westmeath border as I don't think there are many bogs in Meath, the land in Meath is of a very high quality. Anyhow, thanks for sharing.
The dog peeked out from behind Toby and the pair stared at the camera. Too funny and quite a pair. They're like adorable cartoon movie characters. Just love the menagerie and the admirable way this wonderful family cares for them.

Chimney looks really good! Well done! The door steps too. Who gets to get up on the roof and build the rest of the chimney? Are you going to nail Desi's shoes to the floor to keep him from leaving? Lol. Ya gotta love a man with his own crane! Nice of him to move those tiles for you. That saved you some hours. How long does the chimney have to cure before you can use it? Screw the camera! One last comment. The handsome bald gentleman's accent is super too, but the gentleman wearing the hat - ??? I couldn't understand. The Irish is so enchanting......
You are very lucky to be able to get large trucks on site. Our cottage is at the bottom of a very steep, narrow long lane. Everything has to be dropped at the top of it and wheelbarrow-ed down.
It's really coming together now. It's looking good. It will be nice when you finally can do all the finishing touches. Still a long way to that. That crane driver guy was awesome, it's hard finding people who will help. Keep on going! Can't wait to see this through to completion 😊😊
So funny watching your collie dog and your donkey in the background at the start of this video! The dog is trying to herd your donkey, but donkey is having nothing to do with it! I love them. That kitten is gorgeous, and your black cat is beautiful. You are all working so hard, and it is slowly and surly all coming together. Blessings from Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound, from West Devon, England. xxx
Your dog being a real shepherd's dog he seems to be at his wits ends with this donkey that simply doesn't think of moving. It's so interesting to see these ingrained habits of different species.
I'ved watch a couple on a vlog do the pointing with a cloth piping bag . They fill it with the mix and piped it in then smoothed it off . . It looked a lot quicker and less messy . I hope that helps a bit and it might save a bit of time

Lovely patchwork roof… ❤️
A work in progress..
One last comment. The handsome bald gentleman's accent is super too, but the gentleman wearing the hat - ??? I couldn't understand. The Irish is so enchanting......
Music, scenery, great progress on the build. Fantastic.
Have a great day.
You are very lucky to be able to get large trucks on site. Our cottage is at the bottom of a very steep, narrow long lane. Everything has to be dropped at the top of it and wheelbarrow-ed down.
I've been waiting for my Toby fix
It's really coming together now. It's looking good. It will be nice when you finally can do all the finishing touches. Still a long way to that. That crane driver guy was awesome, it's hard finding people who will help. Keep on going! Can't wait to see this through to completion 😊😊
He was really kind to help us out.
Such a beautiful place....
It really is!
well done , chimney will look brilliant ,glad u got roof covered in the end
Love my Irish Family, Sam, Bec, Euan & Isabella - from Patrick Courtney in Portland Oregon.
My dad's family is from Roscommon. We still have relatives there living on the old family land.
Another amazing vlog. You are doing brilliantly.
So frustrating when the weather is chasing you !!! ❤🦘
Blessings from Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound, from West Devon, England. xxx
Makeing great progress Sam ,looking well
kind regards Sean
Lovely to see the chimney being reinstated....the aga will look well there
Looking good. Glad you got help in to speed up the fireplace and chimney. All good progress.
You and me both!
Was getting worried enjoy watching your video's as I have Sunday breakfast. So good to get the chimney up.
Wow you are doing an amazing job Sam ❤
Your dog being a real shepherd's dog he seems to be at his wits ends with this donkey that simply doesn't think of moving. It's so interesting to see these ingrained habits of different species.
👍👍👍. Thank you
So amazing at the difference between the beginning and now-will be even better when you are done! Such dedication!
Thank you
I'ved watch a couple on a vlog do the pointing with a cloth piping bag . They fill it with the mix and piped it in then smoothed it off . . It looked a lot quicker and less messy .
I hope that helps a bit and it might save a bit of time
