my late great aunt lived in Pikes Hill and drove a horse and trap, picking millk from Lyndhurst road station and selling it in the village.S he also took visitors, mainly newly weds around the Forest as a romantic visit to remeber.
@@DaveKnowlesFilmmaker such a pleasant day out it seems, oh and do please let me know your favourite films. What an extraordinary thing the New Zealand woman has done.
Another fascinating film Dave. So glad I stumbled upon your channel, now I watch at least one of your films every day. Liked and subscribed 😊 again as I think I pushed the wrong button first time lol.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. There will be lots more films to come over the next few months. All the best Dave daveknowles.net/jacks-country/
2:07 How does a school teacher afford flying four horses from England to the UK? The shipping costs alone would have been horrendous, but then the handling costs would have been huge, too. I don;t get it. That said, what a brave lady for doing that on spec, especially with zero horse experience.

Nicola this drive took place in the middle of July 20129 and is normally a yearly event. There is a Facebook page for the drive so you could possibly find the dates from there.
co tinued.... she and her sister , my grandmother as children used to tell me how they ,would run down tothe bivouac where Brusher Mills lived a d they would annoy him until he chasedthem off. Locally they wereknown as Maggots and Emmiges, Margaret and Emily Kent
Hi Dave, I am not sure who they are but these horses are very well looked after. The owners many of who are not Gypsies come from all over the country including the New Forest. Danny is very strict on the welfare of all horses on his drive so I think your facts are incorrect.
@@DaveKnowlesFilmmaker To do 26 miles- horses have to be fit. None of the ponies shown were in distress, exactly the opposite. Being herd animals, they love running and playing together, just like big kids!! Believe you me if a pony doesn't want to go in the water, (or run with his/her mates,), they won't go. And there are horses who willfully neglect their animals and no they're not all travellers or gypsies. Infact gypsies love and are very proud of the ponies. Dave Smith you should check out the horse charities, over fat, gross ponies is equally , if not more, hurrendous form treatment to ponies!! I thought the video was 'Ace' as an ex carriage driver I'd love to do this!! Thanks Dave Knowles.
What a wonderful experience
Amazing, that's our heritage right there...
+J Bradshaw I am pleased that you enjoyed the programme and thanks for taking time to comment.

This is not a race, and anyway travellers, romanies and no doubt others involved here look after their horses well.
