    4:30, I just realized that Brad started becoming a mutant around this time.
    Emotional/physical stress on the body is what is a catalyst for joy users to turn into mutants.
    It was Buddy who made Brad realize that he was a failure and hurt her the most.
    This made Brad ultimately become a mutant.
    Buddy turned Brad into a mutant.

    Honestly, the worst realization is that no matter what you do, Brad is screwed from the get-go. He's had too much Joy. And that stuff is what turns people into mutants. It was going to happen, and Buzzo decided to accelerate it if you weren't taking it regularly throughout the game.

    The first time I played through the game, the reveal of Rando and Brad being father and son flew completely over my head. I had put the game down for a period of time, and I completely forgot about the bit where Brad lets him into the dojo. Now that I know, though... God, that's heavy.

    Followed all the way to the end! I really liked this game playthrough, it's pretty well done and moderately paced. Made for a great way to pass the time!

    This game goes beyond bounds. Hell i'm impressed, nothing got to me that much before. It was a exhilarating trip to hell THAT's for sure! Thanks for playing this through I really enjoyed the watch. Honestly it was what I was looking for throughout this whole little series. The silence of the game gets to me the most better than some Laughing TH-camr making jokes at every section. Now the game wasn't fully dark, it had some light spots and even some humour. Something new for a change.

    • @QaladansParty
      @QaladansParty  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Timothy Parham Thanks for watching it all! (And the Joyful, just saw your other comment!) I'm happy to have shared the experience.. it was definitely the perfect balance of complete silly lunacy coupled with depressing serious subject matter. Even some of the subplots hit both sides of the spectrum, like the Rangers. The ending definitely got to me, though.. shed some tears over that one. It's weird how lately it's the smaller indie titles that really make you feel emotions rather than the big AAA releases. I guess you can take bigger chances when the budget is lower and you're not trying to sell a billion copies... it's definitely better for it.
      The graphics were fitting and creative, especially the Joy mutants. I bought the soundtrack as well, I liked it a lot.. quite some varied stuff. The story was A+ to me.. I think the mark of a good story is when you want to know more about the world. I also like when you learn more and more about the world through tidbits and idle talk rather than having it just shoveled down your throat. By the end of Joyful, you can pretty much piece together what happened... but it never blatantly says so.
      It's funny, I hear that a lot about people being glad I'm not just screaming over the videos. :P Now, I do some videos where I talk over them, but it's usually if I'm playing multiplayer crap with friends. I definitely think there's a time and a place for that kind of stuff, but games like this? They can speak for themselves.

    • @timothyparham5064
      @timothyparham5064 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You took the words right out of my mouth, but hey I can see the fact of what games can show value by it's story rather than it's titles. But also by the way we should play some multiplayer games together dude. I wouldn't mind hopping on your train (Excuse those who will take that the wrong way. Huehue.) But I enjoyed the gameplay and I look forward to seeing all your vids. You earned my Subscribe. Hopefully soon i'll have content as well. I just don't have the gut to record since I lack a motive.

      +Se05239 Thank you very much for watching, glad you liked it!
      I was so thoroughly surprised at how much I liked this one. It really came out of nowhere.. I remember seeing screenshots and thinking it looked neat, but I never thought anything of it until one day I saw it go on sale... I just played all the way through it in pretty much one day. It's rare that you can honestly say a game made you feel feelings, but this one really got to me. I loved it, I wish more people heard of it.. kind of the main reason I made this. :) It really makes me wonder what other gems have flown under the radar..

    • @Se05239
      @Se05239 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Qaladan Considering how filled the gaming market is with trash that looks similar to this, I'd imagine a whole lot are lost in the mess.
      But when the gems are found, everyone gain knowledge of it. Just look at Undertale, what a smash hit that one was and it even looks worse than this in some aspects.
      People commonly think that the graphics make the game. LISA and other games have proven that wrong.

    so I know taking joy or not can affect the ending but does being selfless over sacrificing party members affect the ending or just the games difficulty? I'm thinking about doing a joyful selfish run on my channel.

    • @QaladansParty
      @QaladansParty  8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      As far as I remember, there essentially is only 1 ending with 3 different post game scenes. Joyful, Joyless, and Pain Mode. I believe being in Pain Mode overrides the other 2 and there is no real difference whether you are selfish or not (besides a bit of dialogue as you go along and achievements)
      Going by memory though. :) Good luck with the run if you go for it!

      It's a few things (at least in my opinion)
      I think it's easier to identify with Brad because he's the hero of the game, so automatically side with him.. but from Buddy's perspective...
      Brad denied her any choice in life, he thought he knew best.
      He murders everyone around her, even taking on his oldest friends.
      He openly refers to her as his "second chance" since he failed his sister when he was younger.
      In the game universe, regardless of player action, he was a drug addict for many years. As the player, you can choose to finally stop it.. but at that point it's already way too late.
      She's told that she's the savior of the world by everyone else but Brad wants to keep her to himself (and therefore safe, but again, this is from her point of view)
      You end up doing some monstrous stuff through the playthrough. Again, you can make your Brad a little nicer and try to repent your sins, but you still do horrible things.
      Also, it makes it tragic and sad... makes it a better story. :P
      I think if you watch the Lisa the Joyful playthrough I have on my channel you'll get a bigger look into her personality! You also get other scenes of Brad raising her and pretty much get to see her real feelings. It's worth a watch if you enjoyed this. :)

    • @ShiryuCain

      Also don't forget how he murder Marty before her very eyes... Marty was a monster but he saved her... and remember after the fight? "nothing remains" NOTHING...REMAINS... Brad didn't just beat him, he broke his body until it was nothing but bloody pulp, before buddy that knew nothing about his past.

    • @notmocka
      @notmocka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Thats a good explanation, but I also think that she doesnt comprehend what, ahem "saving the world" involves, 50% of the characters you find through the game want to rape her ffs, we in regular society would very much preffer being isolatted than taking chances of being repeatedly pregnant-by-rape in a society without medicine

    • @bradpotts1747
      @bradpotts1747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      yeah i kinda felt the same way.
      some of the things she hates him for arent things she should reasonably have the persepective TOO hate him for.
      her being in that house for so long and not having choice makes sense from the perspective of a modern adult but it would more likely imprint such perspectives of the world as terrifying onto buddy. now that is pretty messed up but i see it as a failing on the writers part because it is budy's naivety that makes her hate brad in other areas such as not understanding what people mean when they say she is the worlds future or the depths of martys monterousness.
      tldr the writer is having his cake and eating it too.
