When you are looking at your babies face all the time then you look at your other child they look HUGE and you soon learn that the elder child is no longer the baby you thought they were. I must say I gasped when Jackson grabbed at Calvins face, I hope he gets used to having a little brother much sooner than later. Seeing you as a family of 4 made my heart smile. I am SO happy for you all.
Ellie, I totally understand the breast feeding pain problems. I used to SCREAM and cry when I nursed my first newborn daughter. It was TORTURE! Keep applying lanolin. It will totally help soothe the soreness. But don't give up, because it is so worth the work and effort!!
I nursed my son for 15mo, he weaned himself the month I got pregnant, and this time around (my daughter is 4mo) things were still difficult for 2-3 weeks. Hang in there, I promise you it is 10000% worth it! Never quit on a bad day!

Please don't beat yourself up about struggling a little with feeding, regardless of what happens, you have tried and for that you are wonderful. I remember when first I exclusively breastfed my son for about a week, my nipples ended up hurting so bad that they cracked and bled. Its a new adjusting process for both of you guys. The lanolin cream worked wonders to help alleviate the pain. Wish you both the best of luck!

Just keep sticking it out with the breastfeeding! I had the same issue with Revelynne. She latched right on, but she had a very shallow latch and it was searing pain after only 3 feeds. I also had an over-sensitivity issue. I had to pump exclusively for 2 weeks - and the pumping actually helped with the sensitivity. Then she thankfully still latched right back on after two weeks, and we have been breastfeeding successfully now and she is 5 months. Coconut oil was my best friend in the beginning :)

Ellie keep pressing forward in breastfeeding Cavin! You can do it! My daughter was born in March and she had a bad tongue tie and until we got it corrected she was unable to latch right. I didn't want to use the nipple shield, In fact I thought I was failing doing so, but I did use it for 2.5 weeks so I could heal. Lean on Good for strength and Encouragement it will be well worth it!! I promise!
My brother was two and a half years when I was born, and once I was brought home, my parents tried to get him to hold me and he said, "Take her back [to the hospital]!!!" Hahaha. We're here whether you like it or not, big brothers! (;

Ellie I know exactly how you feel with the pain from nursing! I remember very clearly that feeling of dread when my son would get hungry! I'm sorry the nipple shield did not work out for you last time because that is the thing that helped me be able to continue breastfeeding. My son is now 13 mos old and we are still going strong! I hope that the lactation consultant will be able to help you! Those gel pads do feel nice too! That was very thoughtful of Jared! Enjoy your sweet bundle!

I just watched the video of Jackson being born! It's funny because everything happened in this pregnancy at Walmart. Like finding out that Calvin was going to be born. And then she went into labor at Walmart. In the beginning of the video of Jacksons birth the doctor says "and that's what is going to be like when your water breaks in Walmart" I find it really amazing yet funny that the pregnancies have a lot to do with Walmart! Love the vlogs. Keep up the great work! 😊
Ellie just get through these first 2 to 3 weeks of breastfeeding.. I promise you will just wake up one day and it will stop being painful and you'll be so glad you stuck through the pain. I had the exact same experience. Also.. put those Medela pads in years freezer and put them on as soon as your done for some nice relief. They were the only things that worked for me! So happy for you guys!! I've been following your journey for over a year.

I went through the same pain breastfeeding my son, he has a small mouth and it was rough. Now I've been nursing him 8 months and the pain has completely gone away. The first three months are the toughest for breastfeeding but after that it got so much easier- you definitely are on the right track!

Ellie I had trouble latching my baby and had an oversupply and my LC recommended block feeding. It changed my world! BF had been very difficult and painful until I tried it and we never looked back. The first LC I saw wasn't helpful and just gave me latching advice but the LC changed everything for us. X

I'm a midwife :) Take ibuprofen or tylenol to help with your afterbirth pains. Take them a bit before your feeds so it will kick in before the feed as it stimulates uterine contractions which is what hurts. I know how you feel! You can also make a rice sock to keep on your lower tummy.
Ellie, I just had to comment in hopes that you see it and in case it could help. I have had six children and I have only successfully nursed one - my last one, now 14 months old. We just stopped last month. Believe me when I tell you that I believe that whatever way a mama feeds her baby is the right way! But I truly wanted to nurse this last baby of mine. I used lanolin cream religiously, before I would feed her, right after I would feed her and even in between. It helped tremendously. I was still sore for two weeks, but I never cracked or bled (like some people do) and it was manageable. Anyhow, maybe you already know about this stuff, maybe you are already using it, but just I case, it is a wonderful thing!!!! I wish you and your sweet family every single good thing. Oh, also, when it was hard, those first few days in the beginning and she wasn't gaining weight, and I wondered if I should just stop nursing, I would tell myself that I didn't have to decide today, that for today I could nurse and that I could decide tomorrow. I truly think that got me through as well! Hope that is helpful, or in the least please know that I am thinking about you and praying for you!
I realize you have lots and lots of comments to go through, so not quite sure if you'll actually see this, but I just wanted to offer my support as a fellow breastfeeding mama! Like Ellie, every time I'd feed my daughter I bawled. It hurt like crazy, and I became really discouraged by everyone telling me I had to be doing it wrong because it shouldn't hurt. I went to multiple lactation consultants and just kept practicing and bearing through the pain. After about six weeks, the pain was completely gone. I still have no idea why it hurt so badly. I was told she latched on well, the hold was good, everything... So I think it honestly has to do with pain tolerance as well. There's no way of saying it shouldn't hurt ANYONE, because everyone has a different feeling of what hurts and what doesn't. I've now been breastfeeding for going on 20 months, and I'm so happy I stuck with it!
My little girl destroyed me nursing, I had a hard time for the first few months but most of it was probably because she had an undiagnosed lip tie. Mostly just wanted to encourage you! You're not alone, you were designed to do it and you will get past the difficult part. You're a wonderful mommy Ellie either way!

This brings back so many memories of nursing my babies. It's SO hard at the start. But I'm still going now at almost 10 months :) Thank goodness my girl was so tenacious and would not let me give up (she wouldn't take a bottle at all, not even of pumped milk). You're doing so well Ellie.
Just to give you a little encouragement about breastfeeding. When I had my son it was awful breastfeeding. I was miserable, in so much pain. I honestly didn't think I could do it, but here we are 2 1/2 years later and going strong! Good luck ellie!

I'm a midwife :) Take ibuprofen or tylenol to help with your afterbirth pains. Take them a bit before your feeds so it will kick in before the feed as it stimulates uterine contractions which is what hurts. I know how you feel! You can also make a rice sock to keep on your lower tummy.
Ellie, I just had to comment in hopes that you see it and in case it could help. I have had six children and I have only successfully nursed one - my last one, now 14 months old. We just stopped last month. Believe me when I tell you that I believe that whatever way a mama feeds her baby is the right way! But I truly wanted to nurse this last baby of mine. I used lanolin cream religiously, before I would feed her, right after I would feed her and even in between. It helped tremendously. I was still sore for two weeks, but I never cracked or bled (like some people do) and it was manageable. Anyhow, maybe you already know about this stuff, maybe you are already using it, but just I case, it is a wonderful thing!!!! I wish you and your sweet family every single good thing. Oh, also, when it was hard, those first few days in the beginning and she wasn't gaining weight, and I wondered if I should just stop nursing, I would tell myself that I didn't have to decide today, that for today I could nurse and that I could decide tomorrow. I truly think that got me through as well! Hope that is helpful, or in the least please know that I am thinking about you and praying for you!

I realize you have lots and lots of comments to go through, so not quite sure if you'll actually see this, but I just wanted to offer my support as a fellow breastfeeding mama! Like Ellie, every time I'd feed my daughter I bawled. It hurt like crazy, and I became really discouraged by everyone telling me I had to be doing it wrong because it shouldn't hurt. I went to multiple lactation consultants and just kept practicing and bearing through the pain. After about six weeks, the pain was completely gone.
I still have no idea why it hurt so badly. I was told she latched on well, the hold was good, everything... So I think it honestly has to do with pain tolerance as well. There's no way of saying it shouldn't hurt ANYONE, because everyone has a different feeling of what hurts and what doesn't. I've now been breastfeeding for going on 20 months, and I'm so happy I stuck with it!
My little girl destroyed me nursing, I had a hard time for the first few months but most of it was probably because she had an undiagnosed lip tie. Mostly just wanted to encourage you! You're not alone, you were designed to do it and you will get past the difficult part. You're a wonderful mommy Ellie either way!

This brings back so many memories of nursing my babies. It's SO hard at the start. But I'm still going now at almost 10 months :) Thank goodness my girl was so tenacious and would not let me give up (she wouldn't take a bottle at all, not even of pumped milk).

Just to give you a little encouragement about breastfeeding. When I had my son it was awful breastfeeding. I was miserable, in so much pain. I honestly didn't think I could do it, but here we are 2 1/2 years later and going strong! Good luck ellie!
