I absolutely think disappointment in the Chugga situation is justifiable. He was a pioneer of TH-cam let's plays, kept his content consistent, and even worked with groups to host huge charity livestreams - which he himself would chip in to. It is no excuse for his actions of course, but I know that myself and many others enjoyed his videos growing up.
This is one of the verrry few anime where even Japanese Native Speaking People prefer the English Dub; I think it’s mainly due to Yusuke Urameshi’s Raw Emotion from his English VA

I’m 31 and I’ve had subtitles on everything for several years. The volume shifting that Andrew mentioned is infuriating. My TV actually has a sound setting that does a decent job of keeping everything equalized called AI Sound and it’s pretty neat.
Well as someone whose first language isn't English and only getting more comfortable with it each day, it's way easier for me to watch dubbed anime and especially video games. I never watch movies dubbed anyway and only watch everything with English subtitles. But anime I just don't really care either way if the dub is good, and it's animation anyway, so it's not like live-action where you can tell it's not the actor's real voice. Anime is kinda harder to get through than live-action for me, and it would be a little easier watching it dub. That said, I haven't really watched a lot of dubs and mostly watch sub unless the dub is good enough. Video games are a lot harder than both since they have a lot more lines of dialogue than both anime and movies and I have less patience for video game dialogue than other media, so I'd never choose sub if the game has English voice acting available.

I do agree with is how bad Yong Yea is. That's a universal agreement 100%. Ichiban's English VA voices Gauis from the Trails series, and for myself, I don't believe he has the same level of emotion Ichiban's JP va can convey. His JP va is the same as Nishikiyama's and he did a phenomenal job in 0 and K1 + he can sing well. That enhances Ichiban's abrasive personality significantly better than his English actor. I... don't understand what the complaint here is about Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth lmfao. Nearly every Yakuza game is heavily character driven including the "mundane" stuff, especially at the beginning. It was like that even in Yakuza LAD. Not to mention Andrew, you're literally in the *first* chapter of the entire rest of the game. Even then the slower build up last those few hrs and it immediately jumps back into the overaching story of the series. You say LAD is a straight jump in to a new narrative but it really isn't, there is so much missing context if you start with LAD, it equivalent to just starting Infinite Wealth. So why would anybody just start with IW when it clearly is advertised and IS a direct sequel to a 10+ game interconnected series? To add the icing on the cake is that you can't even play IW without Gaiden, which Gaiden is heavily reliant on all of Kiryu's past adventures (0-6). It's all such a nothing burger complaint lol
The whole English team for Yakuza Like a Dragon was really fun, really great, and I think that passes just fine to infinite wealth. The whole cast of party members where awesome. Ichiban, Adachi, and Zhao, especially Japanese VA for Kiryu is the best, but Yong did a fine job as Kiryu. His singing is mid because when he has to raise his voice, he gets a little nasally. His Baka Mitai was good imo, because it's a gentle song. Like I said, I prefer Japanese Kiryu, but the english dub team for Like A Dragon was done well enough that I think Yong isn't really a reason to switch to subs.

For the Yakuza series in particular it feels weird *not* to be playing in JP dub, but with Yea not being a good cast for Kiryu, a single, very integral character to the series can justify a swap from eng dub to JP dub. That isn't a knock at all to the rest of the eng dub team, but it makes such a impactful difference for those of us who played through the entire long standing series. Not to mention personally I believe Kaiji Tang (Ichiban's eng VA) wasn't a great casting for the character eccentric and out going personality. Tang's specality in his roles lie in the more softer spoken, thoughtful, yet strong characters he has done in times past. For example with Ichiban, in Yakuza LAD, when Ichiban has to defeat Kiryu ro progress, him yelling "I'll just have to kill you" is far more impactful with Kazuhiro Nakaya (Ichiban's JP VA) simply due to the fact he has experience voicing characters with high emotion, which leads to him add more emphasis on certain scenes better that undoubtedly sell the scene better than what Tang's typical roles are.

Dragon Quest is a decade older, and about 20 of the original 150 Pokémon are clear-as-day lifted from Dragon Quest. Geodude is literally just a color change, not even a reskin.
Kiryu had an English voice actor in Yakuza 7, and Darryl Kurylo did a fantastic job, and it sucks that he didn't return, but I think Yong Yea did a fine job.

It's the pokemon designs themselves. Pokemon relays on making cute and cool pokemon and making mech out of them to sell. The games are only to advertise the pokemon. The Pokemon Company wouldn't be sueing over the game but the designs. Which they have every right too Secondly, Japanese copy right is way different. If they don't try and defend their IP it leave them vulnerable to any future copyright infringements. You need to defend your IP. That's just how copyright works.

I honestly like shifting the focus away from these world ending event and super evil teams and refocusing the story back to what we all play Pokémon for. To catch them all and be the very best. Like, everyone gives shit to Pokémon for not innovating but I disagree. A great example is Clavell, let's be honest it was a massive surprise when he wasn't some bad guy wanting some secret power the legendary had. Heck, even the final bad guy wasn't even a bad guy who wanted to take over the world, just a scientist driven by their curiosity. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also probably has the best friendly rival in all of the games. I also enjoy the more silly nature of the bad guy teams, they feel more like classic anime team rocket. Also, I think Terastalization has been the best battle gimmick since Mega. It actually changes the strategy in completive play, it doesn't require a tone of work on the developers so every Pokémon can use it, and it balanced enough that you don't need to restrict it to only gym and raids. Now, I will say there is stuff GameFreak need to improve, but I also think people are too critical on them. Scarlet and Violet is only the SECOND mainline Pokémon game on the switch. Every other system only had 2 mainline games and 1 remake. Classic Gameboy - Kanto & Johto Gameboy Advance - Hoenn & Kanto DS/DSi - Shinno & Unova & Johto 3Ds - Kalos & Alola & Hoenn This is probably the first console ever to have more games on in for Pokémon, and you can clearly see them getting more and more confident with each game. Also, Pokémon does change up the formula alot, they just do it by making other spin off games and leaving the mainline game alone. I hope they make another Legends game and kinda gear that series to be more difficult. Having two separate games for different demos. They could also take a few pages from Mario and have some pretty challenging post game stuff that isn't required for completing the story.
One piece dub is underrated. i understand that some people dont like luffy in the dub but i think he works. Everyone else is for sure better in dub. Especially brook, franky, robin and zoro. Peronas english voice is great too and she does the horohoro laugh perfectly
The power names aren't as goofy in Japanese because "hadouken" (波動拳) is not how you literally say "fist of surge" or whatever in Japanese. It only has that meaning because of the kanji it's written with. It's like how Western fantasy likes to use Latin words for spells names... But in Latin, the spell is probably literally named "levitation."

Yakuza's dub is really good. Ichiban, Adachi, Nanba, Zhao, ect. All really fun and well done. Yong's portrayal as Kiryu is nowhere near as good as the og Japanese Kiryu, but he does a fine job. His singing is pretty bad on some like Justice, but pretty good on Baka Mitai. I think his problem is that he's nasally when he raises his voice. Ichiban's English vo is so fun, I couldn't even tell you what it would take to make me switch. Love the Like a Dragon series.

To answer the question on why people do rp stuff, it's like reading a book or playing a video game.
I'm adding this to the start cause for some reason people don't understand this... THE POKEMON GAMES ARE MADE TO GET KIDS TO BUY TOYS!!!! IT WILL NEVER BE DARK, IT WILL NEVER BE HARD. Pokemon target demographic is whoever will buy anything other then the game.
Something that people don't seem to understand is that the games aren't the core of pokemon. It's the pokemon designs themselves. Pokemon relays on making cute and cool pokemon and making mech out of them to sell. The games are only to advertise the pokemon. The Pokemon Company wouldn't be sueing over the game but the designs. Which they have every right too
Secondly, Japanese copy right is way different. If they don't try and defend their IP it leave them vulnerable to any future copyright infringements. You need to defend your IP. That's just how copyright works.
I mean, theres some dark stuff in the games, especially back in the ds and gameboy era.
@@technicallypsycho5370 oh 100%, but let's be honest, the story was kinda bad back then. I honestly like shifting the focus away from these world ending event and super evil teams and refocusing the story back to what we all play Pokémon for. To catch them all and be the very best.
Like, everyone gives shit to Pokémon for not innovating but I disagree. A great example is Clavell, let's be honest it was a massive surprise when he wasn't some bad guy wanting some secret power the legendary had. Heck, even the final bad guy wasn't even a bad guy who wanted to take over the world, just a scientist driven by their curiosity. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also probably has the best friendly rival in all of the games. I also enjoy the more silly nature of the bad guy teams, they feel more like classic anime team rocket.
Also, I think Terastalization has been the best battle gimmick since Mega. It actually changes the strategy in completive play, it doesn't require a tone of work on the developers so every Pokémon can use it, and it balanced enough that you don't need to restrict it to only gym and raids.
Now, I will say there is stuff GameFreak need to improve, but I also think people are too critical on them. Scarlet and Violet is only the SECOND mainline Pokémon game on the switch. Every other system only had 2 mainline games and 1 remake.

This is probably the first console ever to have more games on in for Pokémon, and you can clearly see them getting more and more confident with each game.
Also, Pokémon does change up the formula alot, they just do it by making other spin off games and leaving the mainline game alone. I hope they make another Legends game and kinda gear that series to be more difficult. Having two separate games for different demos. They could also take a few pages from Mario and have some pretty challenging post game stuff that isn't required for completing the story.
One piece dub is underrated. i understand that some people dont like luffy in the dub but i think he works. Everyone else is for sure better in dub. Especially brook, franky, robin and zoro. Peronas english voice is great too and she does the horohoro laugh perfectly

The power names aren't as goofy in Japanese because "hadouken" (波動拳) is not how you literally say "fist of surge" or whatever in Japanese. It only has that meaning because of the kanji it's written with. It's like how Western fantasy likes to use Latin words for spells names... But in Latin, the spell is probably literally named "levitation."

I'm playing 7 with subs. I did watch some of the cutscenes online in the dub and just not for me but I can see why people like it. Agree with Charlie on I'll use dubs for convience (and I'll admit with how long the Yakuza cutscenes are sometimes I do wish I just had to listen and not read)

In 2009 there was a video called "Guy yells at cats" and it's a guy yelling at his cats (It's still up) and a few of the lines from it (Including that particular spicy line) became popularly clipped and used in YTPs in the day and in animations used on Newgrounds.

Yakuza's dub is really good. Ichiban, Adachi, Nanba, Zhao, ect. All really fun and well done. Yong's portrayal as Kiryu is nowhere near as good as the og Japanese Kiryu, but he does a fine job. His singing is pretty bad on some like Justice, but pretty good on Baka Mitai. I think his problem is that he's nasally when he raises his voice. Ichiban's English vo is so fun, I couldn't even tell you what it would take to make me switch. Love the Like a Dragon series.
