I Asked AI for Spoilers on Books I Gave Up On!

  • Hey Booktube, with AI becoming more and more popular I thought it would be fun to try and get spoilers on the endings of the books I couldn't finish since it was requested. I thought ChatGPT would be useful at least for mystery, thriller and horror books... good thing we still have Goodreads lol

hi :) I think that the better place for explanations and spoilers about books is Reddit. After reading some books (Bunny for example), I went there to see if I truly understand what the f was going on 😂

While AI can be great for scientific purposes, banalizing the use of AI will only make companies create more AI softwares and more AI training is very bad for the environment. While the video idea is fun, I would leave AI only for good things like scientific research.

I think the free version of ChatGPT only has data going back before 3/4 years to the current time, so it might explain why newer novels aren't in its database.

Besides the old data issue, you need to keep in mind that Chat GPT is based on a language model; it's trained to give you answers that are correct in terms of grammar/vocabulary/etc but they may not be factually correct, so it's always a good idea to double-check the answers.

The Perfect Marriage is so much worse (lots of spoilers coming) because half of the book is told from her perspective and in her thoughts she repeatedly wonders if her husband did actually kill his mistress.
She also has a kid with her coworker. She thinks constantly about how much she hates this ugly coworker, and she’s already having an affair with him you just don’t know yet. This coworker is also related to the Mistress’s ex husband or whatever which is why he helps the plan.
The husband gets the death penalty and she stays married to him until he’s executed even though she’s with her coworker and marries him like the day after her husband is executed, and you find out the wife also killed her mom as a teenager but made it look like an overdose.
It’s a horrible mess of a book and I loved a different book by the author so I was so excited for this one.

It really got me to pay more attention and not just noticing the overtly misogynistic authors out there but the ones who try to bury it in rhetoric etc., thank you Emily. About the sexism, I have read books from the 19th century far more respectful towards women then from the early 2000’s so… also feminism is not something that popped up 10 years ago, come on!
    Love the video ❤

    Thanks for the fun video!
I tried too and chatgpt kept inventing the end of the book, with random characters and a generic plot twist 😂 (it was fun to read though)
To get a proper answer, I had to first ask it about the publication details of the book to be sure it acknowledge the real book (and the right one), and THEN ask for spoilers, which it simply collected from various reviews sites 🙂
A caution to have with AI: it is a TOOL collecting data; you need to learn to use it properly, otherwise you'll get false info. 🙃

My uses of Chat GPT are down to translation only - I have to be fluent in 4 languages at work. When I get stuck in one language, Chat GPT is the hero in a cape.
But every other job I wanted to use Chat GPT for was utter bs. It's just making answers up.
I wouldn't trust it with anything I cannot controle. As I know all those languages, I see the quality of the translations.
But I wouldn't rely on any book review, if I hadn't read the book myself.

Honestly you'd be surprised, many many many women were "okay" with all the sexism (because they lacked education and perspective) but yes a lot of women back in the day didn't believe that a wife can be graped in a marriage, or in abuse, that's how they were raised so they believed they deserved it. And that's why this stuff is in the books from couple years ago, it was the "norm".

I’m wondering if it’s long non-answers are bc it couldn’t find anyone spoiling the actual book, and it didn’t have access to the full text. Like classics are typically discussed enough that it’s easy to find the end, but new releases, esp mystery thrillers might be trickier? Just a guess

@gurbanimahajan3337 AI generates a lot of heat. A lot of heat will ruin the computers that the AI runs on (in the data centers not the users hardware), so you need to cool it down. A way to efficiently do so is to use a water coolant system so that the water absorbs the heat and carries it away.

    Some general thoughts:
One reason you have much better luck with classics versus these newer books, is because the classics will be in the public domain and we’re likely in the training data for these AI platforms. It’s much less likely that a newer would be in the public domain or would be available to be used for training.
I think one reason that Frieda has become so popular is because a lot of people use Kindle unlimited or prime reading and don’t get books from other places. In general, a lot of those books are lower quality or self published, so it might be the best of what is available on those platforms, but they aren’t getting the stuff that has actually been at least edited.
For Larry Niven, he’s very conservative. He was an advisor for Reagan (🤮) and is a part of a think tank now. one thing he proposed (IN 2007?!?) was spreading rumors that hospitals were harvesting organs from the Latinx community so they would be less likely to go to hospitals and healthcare costs would go down.
SPOILERS FOR DO NOT DISTURB BY MCFADDEN :
She did the same thing in another one of her books where you get a POV character, and you don’t get a key piece of the information. In that one a woman is on the run after killing her husband accidentally, and her sister is searching for her. You get the POV of the sister for like half the book and she talks about how worried she is, and one of the twists at the end is that the sister wants to kill the missing woman. It just doesn’t make sense that we were in their head for so long and the thought patterns don’t align with the true motive. It’s bad writing and it’s stupid.

The fact that people enjoy terrible books is a reflection of a failing education system and the decline of societal values... Everything is instant-instant gratification, news delivered in a 15-second reel. People have stopped introspecting; people have stopped assimilating things. It is all the reel, TikTok culture. Authors are doing fan service by writing shallow, vapid books with no depth in stories or characters. Books and reading have become aesthetic. I cringe when I see people flocking to bookstores just for the aesthetic appeal of the books.

Tips for using AI: You need to be VERY specific about what you are asking. Also, tell it how long you want the response to be. Keep in mind that for these type of questions it is essentially searching the internet for responses to your questions and collating that so if there isn't an answer somewhere online, then it wont be able to provide an accurate response.
AI can be a very useful tool for certain situations but you need to figure out how to use it.
