I was a nurse in a Children's Psychiatric in-patient unit for about 5 years and I worked every Christmas. I loved it, we had a blast with the kids. we went all out for them and even 25 years later I still count that experience as one of my best
So there you have it... the truth of being a Police Officer on Christmas Day! 👮🏻♂️🎅🏻 Thanks to Surfshark for sponsoring this video! Hope you all have a brilliant Christmas x
Christmas was always special to me. When dad was working (now a retired PC), if earlies then we could open one present and then the rest when dad got home, if lates dad would always get up with us and hand out the presents, if nights he would stay up until opened the presents, he would go to sleep and we would visit grandparents. Sometimes dad would come too and then sleep in one of their spare rooms until dinner time. Though mum would often end up being Father Christmas on Christmas Eve 😂. Enjoy watching your videos and wishing you & family a happy and healthy Christmas
An old law 1872 Licensing Act of being drunk in charge of a carriage horse, cattle or steam engine. Someone back in 2009 was charged under the above act!
@@awittyusernamepleaselaugh7481 The act covers being in drunk in charge of a carriage, horse, cattle, or steam engine so it would apply to someone riding on a horse. Though, it would be interesting to run a defence based on the defendant being far too drunk to give the horse instruction and direction, and that the horse was walking home by itself. Therefore the defendant wasn't in charge of the horse, the horse was instead in charge of the defendant, and as the horse was perfectly sober, no crime has been committed.
I love how open you are about your P.T.S.D. and call it the mental illness that it is Ben. I had a horrific incident almost 3 years ago that left me with P.T.S.D. and major injuries I've had countless sessions with a psychotherapist even though I thought I was ok before. With help I realised I was totally fucked up after being smashed to bits and surviving. You're loved one's will realise long before you do that you're just not right. Respect brother ❤️🏴
In the UK it is illegal to be drunk in charge of/riding a horse under the Licensing Act of 1872 which states “Every person… who is drunk while in charge on any highway or other public place of any carriage, horse, cattle or steam engine… shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings or in the discretion of the court to imprisonment for any term not exceeding one month.” and in January 2009 a guy in Newcastle was riding a horse bareback (no saddle) while drunk and was fined £150 plus an addition £35 levied for Justice of the Peace costs.
1 Total respect for the people that work christmas / new year shift feel sorry for the ones that do it becuase they have no one. 2 The scum that rob christmas eve /day have no morals and are only interested in cashing in on someone else 3 Merry christmas Ben and a happy new year to you and the family.
Im with you on Christmas shifts Ben. My last Christmas shift I worked as a paramedic in London I went to 3 separate cardiac arrests. We had to resus one literally next to the Christmas tree. Just awful. Keep the videos up Ben, they are just the tonic I need some days.
Just found your channel, I remember watching you as a young one on the telly. Absolute legend 😁😁😁 take away from this video though, if ima commit a crime I should do it on New Years ? 😂
Loving all the content you're putting out mate. As someone who suffers with severe mental disorders myself, ive gotta say your a true inspiration being able to talk so openly. You spent your life potecting lives, and even after retirement you're still saving lives today with your mental health campaign. Want to wish you and the family a Merry Christmas and a happy New year 🎉 and im looking forward for each upload
This vid had me smiling all the way through, many many thanks. Also all the best wishes for Christmas and every continued success to you all for the New Year.
Aw Ben, sitting here with a newly broken wrist feeling sorry for myself and you still make me smile, btw, hope that tinsel's not going on the tree 😂😂❤xxx
I obviously can't fully relate, but I did work Christmas eve in a pub kitchen once (nice food pub so no trouble with the guests). Fully booked of course, and all the guests wanted to take their time and have a lovely evening, so it stretched out from the rush starting around 6pm until 2am, with them ordering extra nibbley bits and desserts etc to share for hours. Problem was, I was on washing up virtually on my own, grafting like mad right until close because the kitchen had to be spotless for the Christmas day set meal prep early the next morning. Turkeys needed to go in the ovens at 7am.
First off merry Christmas all the best in this last year youv helped me in a couple of ways iv struggled with anxiety an depression from my mum an brothers suicide when I was a kid now after years of getting nowhere my girlfriends convinced Iv got ptsd iv just waited 6 months for an appointment for a psychologist only to get told I have to wait another 6months and in another way youv helped me is my perception of the police an the job they do in a positive way
Every single video of yours I witness.. i cannot belive you were a copper, your just like me and my mates that prop the bar up every friday then end up having a boxing match against the other town 3miles away. Brilliant
The drink driving a horse was nicely covered under the Licencing Act 1872, s12: "Every persdon who is drunk while in charge on any highway or other public place of any carriage, horse, cattle, or steam engine, or who is drunk when in possession of any loaded firearms, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings, or in the discretion of the court to imprisonment for any term not exceeding one month" However, this has been exempted via the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, s5: "A person liable to be charged with and offence under section 3A, 4, 5, 7 or 30 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (drink and drugs) is not liable to be changed under section 12 of the Licencing Act 1872 with the offence of being drunk while in charge, on a highway or other public place, of a carriage." 3A: Causing death by careless driving when under influence of drink or drugs. - mentions a "mechanically propelled vehicle" 4: Driving, or being in charge, when under influence of drink or drugs - "mechanically propelled vehicle" 5: Driving or being in charge of a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit. - "Motor vehicle" 7: Provision of specimens for analysis. - refers back to 3A, 4, 5 30: Cycling when under influence of drink or drugs. - refers to "a cycle" So, it used to be illegal to ride a horse when drunk under the Licensing Act 1872, which was excluded from the RTA 1988. A horse and cart looks like it would fall under the RTA 1988, but not riding the horse. The Licensing Act 2003 does not contain the word "horse". So, does that mean that it is no longer unlawful to ride a horse when drunk? (Please note, I am asking if this is a *legal* idea, not saying that it is a *good* idea)
Just found this channel and I love it, it's interesting seeing the differences between the US and UK. Speaking of, maybe you could watch some clips of 'Live PD" and maybe COPS and talk about the differences and similarities between policing. Keep up the great work!
We got burgled on Christmas Eve Eve so they were kind enough to give my parents the Christmas Eve panic on year. Us kids only realised because they tried to take the tree and forgot the lights were plugged into the wall
It's genuinely amazing seeing how healthy you look and happy you appear just by revealing what's in your mind from all the years in the force. It just goes to prove if you do talk about negative feelings or thoughts then it's like a demon is released and in turn a angel arises. Glad you are having a laugh regarding this video mate, and congrats on 60k. Merry Crimbos to you and production.
My wife's a carer been married 9 years now, with her for 13 years. She's worked every Christmas day since we been together. So we just postpone Xmas for a day. Boxing Day is our Christmas 🎄
Hi Ben iv'e just found your channel and binge watched it in one go. I've suffered from anxiety for quite a few years and I can tell you it will get easier. Your an hero Ben keep up the good work God bless you have a great Christmas.
There is a reason I don’t take a photo of my Christmas tree to put on social media unless it’s before the presents have been put there. And BTW: Santa has a Pilot license ;)
I worked a few Christmas periods in the Royal Air Force. We didn’t get paid extra. We were all just expected to take our turn. I didn’t find it that bad to be honest.
Can feel your pain, I’m a dairy farmer lucky if home by 9am then back again in afternoon 2/6pm, worked 12 Christmas days in 15 years, brilliant video as always 👍🏻
Was so confused you saying York designer outlet in a video, forgetting you use to work / police the area in which I live in. Kinda cool, not so cool to know all these crazy story’s your talking about is just down the street from me. Not sure where I’m going with this but big up Ben kept my local streets safe 👍
Happy Christmas Ben thank you for entertaining me with your stories... This year I am working all Christmas on the thin green line, 🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑 cheese sandwiches for me

Have a great. Christmas Ben x
Ben, you didn’t tell us your answer! - Leg or Breast man?
so does drunk in charge of a vehicle count if its a horse?

That's a carriage though, does it say anything about actually riding horseback?
I feel horseback would fall under cattle

I remember my dad policing on Christmas Day when I was little. It made the ones he was home for any part of it a bit more special.

Your reaction to mince pies and Crimbo pud is exactly right... Good man. Hope you had a good Christmas, spent at home with the family, Ben.
officers like you ben are the reason i want to join the police 👍
Upto the 80s most criminals had Christmas Day off, sounds like things have changed over past decade or so.
My Dad is a paramedic and says Christmas is just families killing each other for the whole day!
Every Christmas as a kid was my family getting drunk and trying to kill each other. No one is allowed to get drunk around my kids on Christmas.
Man I’m so glad I won’t ever have to work an Xmas duty ever again Ben. You summed it up perfectly
