No offense to anyone who is nureotypical ofc lol. It just doesnt seem fathomable. But my state of mind probably seems weird to them so :/

2 really hard things about having ADHD as an adult:
    1. No one knowing I had this (including myself). Everyone constantly frustrated with me (especially me).
    2. Leaning I have it, but fearing telling my job that the reason I seem to suck at some stuff involving executive functioning is a condition that will help them conclude I'll never get better.

I totally understand. That's a hard situation. I had some educational courses get tanked because the admin of the program essentially didn't want to work with me/provide appropriate accommodations. I'm still of the opinion that they, of anyone, should've been quick to understand.
Personally, I'd hang on to the job, but if it's not a positive environment, then I'd be quietly looking for better. 🍀

@@samc5602 I feel that 😫 You’re not alone. It affects so many aspects of our lives, but it’s so misunderstood by the general population and some people think it doesn’t even exist.
It’s so hard to explain executive dysfunction to someone who’s never experienced it.
I always tell people about an experiment where researchers removed rats ability to produce dopamine. The rats experienced pleasure when food was placed in their mouths but, when food was placed just a sort distance away, they would starve to death, unable to find the motivation to walk over to the food.
It’s the only way I’ve found to get the point across to someone who keeps repeating things like “no one wants to work, but we just do it.” They finally start to realize that they’re really lucky to have brains that produce chemicals correctly.

I was just recently diagnosed with adult ADHD. I’d previously always waved off ADHD as no big deal, just an excuse for people to behave poorly. Simultaneously, I just believed that my struggles through life were just because I was a loser, a bad person.
I always joked that my brain was like an old radio being dialed back and forth wildly. Mariachi, then Jesus radio, then pop music, classical, talk radio, back to the classical, now the BBC, so on and so on.
And sense of direction? Forget it. I’d not only forget where I was going, I’d forget that I was even going somewhere period. I’d just wander. My spacial awareness was off too. I literally ran into the side of doors, catching my sleeves on doorknobs.
Behavioral therapy has since changed my life. I may still be a loser, but I can accomplish more now🤣. I’m still very ADHD, and that’s okay. I’m learning how to navigate life a little more successfully.

I have ADHD predominantly inattentive and we are not normal. We have an issue with our brain. When he said "Like the rest of us" it was in no way implying that we are of less value or not capable. I cannot stand when people get "triggered" because life will not conform to your egocentric belief that certain words and phrases are not okay. There will always be words that will become offensive because people choose to take it the wrong way or assholes using it to talk down to a group of people. As far as I am concerned in order to think you have to risk being offensive. Anything can be interpreted in an offensive manner. I am assuming you live in the United States like myself if so that is the reason we have freedom of speech. You can say anything to always be able to voice your opinion no matter how unpopular it is. You have people who hate the government and want to change it that can speak out. You have preachers. You have Liberals, conservatives, socialists and libertarian that can all voice their opinion. With free speech comes assholes who are racists, bigots, holocaust deniers, and whatnot. Without unpopular voices we may have just been a world full of social darwinist beliefs. Look at Africa. Just recently historically speaking we have stopped the disgusting treatment there. Europe had claimed Africa to be full of savages and they made it "civilized". Don't get offended because he was obviously trying not to be. He is spreading awareness.

      @netkosent1620 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@SorenHigh lolol So you get triggered and rant when someone else gets triggered about other shit. Let him enjoy his free speech also if you're so righteous toward that. Considering the amount of people in the comment section saying the same thing, maybe it wasn't as obvious as you thought it was, and as you said, it's okay for them to voice that if they felt that way. So you don't get offended by other people getting offended by other stuff and try to suppress their voice. Speaking of egocentric... :D You're right though, you definitely have an issue with your brain, but it's hardly because of inattentive ADD.

This kid doesn’t even have ADHD and they think that she will feel like she has ADHD, she’s literally just experiencing stress someone with ADHD the best way that I can describe this is that other people in there mind are taking in information like a door opening and closing and only taking in information that is important, but someone who has ADHD that door is always open and they cannot stop thinking and like he said can’t figure out what is more important then other tasks. But my favorite way to describe ADHD is that we are “Ferrari’s with bicycle brakes”. But all that I’m saying is that don’t start to tell someone what ADHD is like unless you have it.

Growing up with adhd is hard and personally for me I felt awful for feeling like everyone around me understanding lessons in school when I was being taught the same way and never feeling smart enough or good enough with the simplest tasks. Thats why now working at a school I do my best to encourage my adhd students that they are SMART and very IMPORTANT in this world. Hey here’s some fun things I found about adhd,
You learn to be a wonderful multitasker! After learning you’re strengths and weaknesses in daily life, you start to pick up behaviors to properly maintain your schedule. One of those things is multitasking. So after a while, it becomes one of your strong points.

I've seen a lot of kids say they're afraid to tell their parents they think they have adhd.
As a parent I'd be happy to hear a child out.
School often told me "X didn't pay attention, is easily distracted" then would go on to tell me "all kids are like this". Having no other experience I took their word for it. I wish I hadn't. I wish I'd done something sooner.
Kids naturally find other people easier to talk to at times, so either find someone your comfortable with, or just try to be brave, find a time when your parents arent distracted or overly busy and just say "hey, there's something I really need to talk to you about. It's taken a lot of courage for me to do this so please hear me out. I'm concerned I may have adhd because..." and most of all let them know if you're struggling (which you likely are).
Might feel hard but give it a try, don't let it go if you really feel something isn't right. Good luck 🤞

What a powerful segment from a semi-local news source! The comments section reveals the significant and chronic trauma that ADHD, ADS, Dyslexia, Tourette's, etc. experience in a society that portrays "normalcy" as our highest (safest is more accurate) purpose. Fitting in in a sick culture is a recipe for a life of banality with elusive and fleeting exceptions.

Shout out to the teacher and doctors who put me in the hospital three separate times with a temperature of 105 while have hallucinations from 1st to 3rd grade being on an adult Adderall. After being taken off the medication I started thriving in school and was a perfectly normal kid and back enrolled in normal classes from 4th grade and on. I do have ADHD but I’ve learned to manage it and use it to my advantage. You’re child is high strung and has a good blood line. Just needs a little discipline with physical activity to calm us down. Never isolate your child for long period of time for punishment and always teach them how to work through life’s stressful moments in the moment and they will be just fine 👍🏻

  • @cyberzenASMR
    @cyberzenASMR ปีที่แล้ว +2

here’s the thing. the ADHD brain requires structure. They need a system that functions correctly or they need isolation from a broken system.
for example: in society we ARE messy and dysfunctional. the ADHD mind is frustrated that does not make sense. as developing children the first thing they learn by adults is to leave things alone and ignore it.
When the ADHD mind addresses those issues, it depends if they feel overwhelmed or not.
they also feel the correct level of empathy. Meaning, they will get upset (cry etc) if someone has an early death. While the rest of society morns for 5 days and slightly for weeks. The ADHD mind morns for years, which is actually a healthy brain to do.
They also have good memory. Specially for traumatic events. What they do NOT like is gaslighting. ADHD mind is social creatures so if someone in a group or the entire group states it was this event and not the one they remember, then there is internal conflict and high anxiety.
ADHD minds have been stabilized with the following: at-pace education and thorough structuring.
there is also recordings everywhere so it’s not he said she said perspectives. we only deal with facts.
    also, ADHD absolutely requires exercise.
there is nothing wrong with ADHD individuals. It’s their genetics. They belong to a professional labor working class stemming back maybe thousands of years.
They need mentally challenging and physically challenging environments. That’s how society was able to function prior to technology. technology today tends to separate the two. labor only and mental professionals only.
so for example, an ADHD mind can work physical labor at the paper mill. They will also do chemical quality control measurements and testing. boom, it works. the individual is happy. But give them only labor and they will have a mental breakdown.
ADHD minds must be raised in structured and sensible environments. You need to build them up to either use their super power. They also need to learn when and how to relax.

This is a very realistic portrayal of what it's like to be neurodivergent; a bunch of people around you talk about how your differences are "bad" and "require fixing" without considering how to utilize the differences in a way that's beneficial to everyone without being ableist jerks.
And yet, to repeat so many folks in the comments, it's unrealistic because there's no bullying or belittling from the child's peers or instructor. She was never punished for not achieving her tasks, and you can't really call it a neurodivergent childhood if you weren't penalized for your differences.

I have ADHD and I'm always late, I get distracted or I misjudge the time something will take and how much time I have left or how many margins I need.
Normally, I try not to plan any deadline-appointments in the first place, so I never get in trouble that way, but depending on the day, the people, the situation, it can still end badly.
I've had a craftsteacher punish me for being late, by giving me the dirtiest chair, the broken paintbrush, no biscuit at teabreak and no proper waterglass for the paint. She kept repeating to everyone (first time I followed the workshop, so this was my introduction) "Now now girls, let's not feel bad for her, she put this on herself, by being late, this is her punishment."
At the end of the workshop, I politely informed her that I was not going to return. She was confused and asked why. I answered; Because I am 22 and I paid for an artclass, not to be humiliated in front of peers."
My intention had been to make friends there, well, that went out of the window.
People have driven off for a picknick without me in the car, because I was one minute late and they wanted to teach me a lesson. Literally walked over to the car, but as soon as it went "14:06" they screamed: "its been 5 past 2, you're too late!" And drove off. We'd planned that picknick for a month, it was ridiculous. And they say there's something wrong with me...

Yet my parents think I'm supposed to be 100% responsible for my decisions and constant screw-ups; And I can't tell them that 95. 5% of the time, it's not ME, it's my ADHD, because they're always like, "Stop using your disorder as an excuse," Right. this is actually a good example.
Teachers used to say things like "go down stair, use this key, go to the door near the stare case then get a specific kind of paper and bring it to sertain room because sertain person needs it" I'd just repeat every step in my head but I would constantly doubt if I got it right and I would forget things too. it was realy frustrating.

But the bigger wonder here, out of all those years of lack of focus and so on, I AM STILL NOT DIAGNOSED.
