Seriously, how can the studios cook so much this season? But yeah, this show is really fun because of Oscar and Tinasha's dynamics and interactions right off the bat. I really enjoy how both come off as confident adults without being arrogant and insufferable. I'm looking forward to seeing the story play out.
Agreed, their dynamic and individual character's are exceptionally well written. Surprisingly so, I had fairly low expectations but was pleasently blown away by the show.
It looks like a typical fantasy romance but the story and the world is bigger than it seems. This actually reminds me some of my friends started to watch Frieren in last year and thought its a light-hearted still life travel anime :). The Witch of The Azure Moon carries a deep scar of dark past and that will revealed later and put her relationship with Oscar into an ordeal. For people who worry this couple might also suffer the time gap between Frieren and Himmel (Tinasha is already 400+ yrs old too), let's just say the memory of love can cross different timeline, and why the story is called "unnamed memory". (p.s. the LN is really worth a read if you crave a good fantasy romance)
I watched this on a whim. No idea what it was going to be about as I hadn't heard anything on it. I watch through it and I'm looking forward to episode 2 now.
I was going to comment about how the 'bobbing' animation of them riding is probably more realistic to actual horse riding than most anime, but you're right specifically about the shot from behind that shows the packs moving around. There's a fair bit of movement when riding, but that was pretty ridiculous
I like it mostly because of properly written male protagonist. At least it is so in the first episode. He is courageous, determined and goal-oriented, he controls his emotions and sticks to his beliefs, unlike most protagonists in modern media - either homely, indecisive whiners with no virtues, or psychopathic manipulators from juvenile fantasies, or effeminate "bad boys" from girls' fantasies. Since the author of the original is a woman, she probably will not be able to withstand a reliable description of a male character. But the good thing is that for once, the traditional type of a likable male protagonist has returned to anime. The emphasis of the narrative will apparently be on the “witch” (actually, a sorceress, not a witch) and her feminine internal emotional struggles and turmoils, but still the story and characters seem to be written clearly better than in most anime, crushed by conventions and clichés.
Their interaction's so sweet. Reminded me of Bunny Girl Senpai, or as you said like Spice and Wolf main characters. I can feel already the amount of sugar I'll get throughout the series.
I like Oscar's personality and voice, maybe it's because of the amount of young MCs but it's nice to see an adult MC and one who knows what he wants and goes for what he wants. He seems like he'll be one to actively flirt to try to get her to fall in love with him, so I'm hoping for some sweet and exciting scenes to come. I did find it amusing how Tinasha answered that question without thinking why he asked, you'd think she'd be more experienced due to her age but because of the lack of social interactions, she wasn't prepared. It's also amusing how Tinasha has been desired by two generations of the Farsas bloodline lol.come into play, so he could have fell in love and had a relationship and be fine, but if it was touching women, or any form of bodily fluid getting on them then I can understand how dire his situation would be as Crown Prince.
I get the feeling that Tinasha realized that the only woman who could possibly have his children would be a witch as she was listing off what she was looking for. That’s why she just trailed off and became very focused on her scrying. And I’m also sure that he figured it out as well.
Lazar trying to stop the Prince got a bit too much considering how calm and collected Oscar was and didn't look like he was in too much trouble and it's not the first it seems that they've gone on a quest. I did want Oscar to get a little annoyed since he had to keep repeating himself especially after he told Lazar to stay at the ground floor if he was so scared. If Lazar was ready to die with Oscar then he should have seen it through since he more than once said he didn't want to let Oscar die alone. I understand Lazar's position but as a viewer, it should have stopped after a few times.
I thought the same thing about this anime as well. Was gonna watch the first episode and be ready to drop it but it looks like I’m gonna continue it. Didn’t initially have a big list of anime I wanted to see this season but it’s been growing
Unnamed Memory is one of the best light novels ever written, period. The author is unlike many a real literate. His stories within this novel are so masterfully written and told you have no choice but to keep reading! Oscar and Tinasha are so great with their dynamic and chemistry plus their love story is as good as Romeo and Juliet because of the romance, adventure and drama... man you have no idea the ammount of different emotions this story will let you experience in an anime. A must read if you are interested guys. Just be prepared, you will be thrilled in many ways. About the episode, well done. I was afraid Studio Engi would f*ck up but no, it was well adapted and the opening/ending are 10/10 imo. Oscar and Tinasha's VAs are so perfect! Very happy with this first episode.
I am not that picky when it comes my Anime/general tastes when I have to choose 🤔 But Unnamed Memory got my attention right away from episode 1😌 Oscar and Tinasha' relationship seems wholesome, natural and a bit funny, from my Pov! I am very curious to see how it will develop in the future episodes 👀 100% a full watch for me!
Dude, I'm with you. I was ready to drop this but when I made my list for this season (my Sunday and Monday list has 6 shows each), I told myself I'd give this one a look. It's got a good enough hook that I'll stick around for now (it's my only Tuesday show). I'm curious to this curse and the lead duo are a pair I can get behind.
I checked this out due to an article comparing this unfavorably to Spice & Wolf (which is one of my favorites) and I have to say that article author did this show dirty. I think this was a fine first episode and their dynamic is very much like Holo and Kraft. I guess in a way that article did help the show as it made me check it out as this one had flew under my radar thus far.
Ngl... I feel like this show might actually be a sleeper hit. The studio in question will probably drive a lot of people away due to the fact they butchered the detective is dead series with some weird animation choices and the adaptation was not good. But hopefully they can actually keep this up and we got this whole run with consistency. I actually saw this is going to be a split 2 cour production which absolutely shocked me but considering like this is like a shorter LN series they may do it in those two cours. I just checked and there's 6 novels so they may cover it all in 2 cours. Anyway, the horses were actually 2D which I'll always commend because I know these poor animators struggle to animate them so kudos to them. It was kinda funny to see them wobble on the horses although I actually liked that they made it a little bit different than what you'd see somewhere else. It was funny to that but overalls the production was consistent and even the fight animation was pretty good too. I love Oscar as a MC. He has that alpha energy about him and he's not a douchbag about it. He's more of a sly fox with his words and the witch was warming up to him. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of romances but this season there's a w romance for everyone. Spice and Wolf will have it. Mission Yozakura Family is probably gonna have it and this series too. I like the premise that this witch gave his father and him a curse that they'd never have an heir due ro the fact that the witch's 'blessing' is so powerful that no normal woman would be able to handle a child like that. So what does he do? He tries to rizz up another witch... I love this guy. Even after she suggested to find someone else, he's like you'd be a good fit. I'm also curious about the interaction with his great grandfather and her and hopefully we'll see that too. This first episode was perfect for me as a starting and it got me hooked to the story where I'd want to see where we go next and I hope it stays on the channel since I know my friend really likes this series. And it's on a Tuesday which are pretty free so I'm definitely gonna watch this all the way though as long as it continues to be as good as this episode. Can't wait to see how their interactions will go from here since they are like you mentioned fairly compatable.

You have High Magic Resistance, Right. Why Don't I Marry you, Instead. Tinasha's Utter Flusterredness was So Cute. I'm old enough to be your Great Great Great Grandmother. And you're willing to introduce Witches blood into the Royal Bloodline, The Nobility will spill Blood. And Oscar's Deadpan Answer, He'd Love to See that. All of that had me Rolling 🤣 Plus, Tinasha does Admit Oscar looks a Lot Manlier than his Great Great Great Grandfather 😂
Totally agree little bit of this and that. Its hard to say no when you like it. Isekai/fantasy, romance, mystery, school life, strategy, or just anime about some specific activity is my range. I am not gonna say no to some good action, but if its all just action im not interested. Still I always start with around 30 anime and drop at least 10 of them but I always check out 1 or 2 that I didnt include initially but seeing its reviewed I check 1st episode and usually watch the whole season. This is one I fell in love immediately.
This show is quite interesting and unique for sure. Can’t think of any show that is similar to this one. The blessing vs curse dichotomy is interesting and you can see that even in mushoku tensei. The art style looks pretty good and especially considering how studio ENGI doesn’t always have great character designs. And the main duo does have a great dynamic and some nice banter. Can definitely compare them to Holo and Lawrence from Spice and Wolf due to the age gap and compatibility. I wonder if they will remove the curse or if it will remain instead. Glad you’re covering it. It’s also funny how the first episode of this show leaked among some other shows like konosuba
First 2 episodes were a lot better than expected, pleasant surprise. Also, it cracks me up that Fern was taking care of a silver-haired elf in Sousou no Frieren and here she IS the silver-haired elf XD (yes, it's Fern's voice actress doing Nephy)
hopefully it stays good. stuido engi are knwon to have some decent animation for like one episode and then like have mid aniamtion and mess up the source material after.. hope not

Spring 2024 has got to be one of the single greatest seasons ever. From returning heavy hitting favorites to the amount of isekai to the musical themed. Just wow. I may have to trim the fat and skip some of these just for mental health. This ain't one I'm cutting. I guess the seas I've been sailing have got a week on ya. Seen the ones you're reviewing today last week or 2 weeks ago. Thus would have been kazuma if aqua wasnt a ditz or kazuma being a a hole.
Pity you are not covering An Archdemon's Dilemma, if you liked this couple, Zagan and Nephy would have been right down your alley. Oh, well, we got this OP King Oscar and Super Witch Tinasha. They are an interesting pair, and they grow on you. This was but the beginning, just you wait until he brings her back to his kingdom. I'm shipping them. They make such a good couple. And don't worry. We appreciate your sacrifice. And the resulting recommendations (sadly not applicable for me in this case, since I'm a manga reader and was already waiting for this series). As for Spice and Wolf... I'm letting it gather. That anime is, after all, like a fine wine. And I want to binge this new iteration. I've seriously missed those two.

I checked the Light Novel and I dropped it. The prince is just way too unlikable, arrogant, narcissistic and pushy and each time when it's time to put him into place at least verbally the Witch is just caves in despite being 400+ years old. It's just sad.

I find the whole blessings and curses being similar interesting. Other things about this look interesting too.

They are an interesting pair, and they grow on you. This was but the beginning, just you wait until he brings her back to his kingdom. I'm shipping them. They make such a good couple.

Gotta disagree on this one. It wasn't bad or anything, but it wasn't anything special, either. Watchable? Sure. Must watch? No.
I checked the Light Novel and I dropped it. The prince is just way too unlikable, arrogant, narcissistic and pushy and each time when it's time to put him into place at least verbally the Witch is just caves in despite being 400+ years old. It's just sad.
