This amazing event has brought tears to my eyes! To see that newborn bison calf feel free and comfortable enough to walk up to you and let you pet it!! And its mom being just fine with it!! What a sweet gift for you!! Maybe this sounds crazy, but do you think, Dusty, that the little one had somehow heard and now recognized your voice from all those months that it was in the womb and you were around it? I know human children hear and recognize their parent's voices, remember songs sung to them, etc. from when they were in the womb.

That is not an unusual reaction from an animal mother of any kind when the wrong baby tries to nurse. She's protecting her own offspring by "guarding" her milk for her own.

She didn't kick it too hard. The wobbly baby didn't fall down from the blow. Just letting baby know it has it's own personal drinking fountain and she wasn't it. 🙂
